Guitar Backing Track - Epic Am/G/F/Em A new take on the "Hurricane" progression, from a city where we know a thing or two about hurricanes. Dynamic electric rhythm strumming over organ chords that morph from bluesy to ethereal. (Note: To simplify the count, I didn't notate the passing G chord after E minor.) Dark Southern Rock in D @ 112 Guitar Backing Track HGC09

Guitar Backing Track - Inspired by some of the hard southern rock grooves on Lynyrd Skynyrd's first album. Based on a variation of the "Layla" riff. This track works with long, sustaining notes, double string riffs, and the grey areas between chords and leads. *Probably not for triads and fast scale runs.* I'm thinking Mountain (Leslie West), Cream (Clapton), and Free (Paul Kossoff), "Love in a...

Beautiful! I feel it in my soul!
Excellent
Thanks, glad you like it. I plan to record more like this.
Dang that's good... Houston good!
Many thx bro!
Hello Good video. Do you also teach the instrumentals at the start of your videos? They sound pretty good. Cheers
Thanks very much. That instrumental is one I recorded several years ago as background for another video. Since you mention it, I think I'll see if I can edit that track into a coherent piece. I've been posting backing tracks, and I plan to post ambient music and instrumentals as well, so please check my channel. Thanks again for posting.
Great track for practicing triads. Excellent work!
can I play the B note?
As I see it, you can play a C major scale, including B, over the whole progression. I think you can use Bb over Dm7, Em7 and G11. I try to avoid Bb over Cmaj7. I don't like Bb over F in this case, because I hear the tonality as major. I like blues riffs over G11, then switching back to major over Cmaj7. I see this progression as mixing major and dominant tonalities.
Yes, Yes, Backbeat without the monotonous shuffle. Great beat, great video!
Thank you Tony, I'm making this series of non-shuffle blues videos at your request. Thanks for posting, and thanks for jamming! I hope you'll also check out th-cam.com/video/f5INuhrSqJA/w-d-xo.html . More to come.
Great Great Track! Thanks!
Thanks for jamming!
C lydian is fun to play and familer as well
Hadn't occurred to me. The raised 4 is a nice note choice. Thanks for suggesting.
@@HoustonGuitar yeah the major scale relates in different ways same position different keys
Very tasty, I love it.
Thank you. I plan to record more in this style.
Very nice. Thanks.
Thanks very much
Cant you see... I love it. Thank you for the lesson
Thanks for jamming. I hope you'll check back. I'm working on drums for some blues numbers. More tracks and lessons to come.
9/17/24: Stay tuned. More blues from this "session" is coming soon. Thanks for jamming!
OMG Yes. More, more, more of this please!!!! (Blues without eastern U.S. shuffle) Yours was such a dream to find. I’m going to subscribe with the hopes of finding more Blues like this.
Thank you, I will be doing more in this style. I plan to record more blues tracks. I agree that "blues backing tracks" tend to sound the same. I plan to draw from other arrangement styles, like this one. I'm finishing some items that have been in the vault for years, like this one. After that, I should be able to pick up the pace. There's a new player in the TH-cam backing tracks arena. Thanks again for subscribing - big help!
By Request, more British Blues: th-cam.com/video/AXf4p-oAUkg/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for providing this format. It is a great asset used with the book to view. I am an old guy and have watched many many videos and tryed many books to try and learn to play, This combination has got me playing , not great yet but a far less frustrating experience for me. I pick with my left hand and form the chords with my right so looking at the book and pausing your video I can get each exercise straight in my head before attempting what i see as backwards. I have been trying to learn since 2018 and have struggled every day, always been a slow learner , but it was getting Pathetic to say the least! Now just under an hour of lesson I want to still try more. I just want to play for myself and wife not a crowd and at least now I think I can reach that goal. Thank You Kindly.
Thank you so much for purchasing the book, and using the videos. I'm glad the book and videos are helping. I was hesitant about the format because I don't see anyone else using it. I'm working on another book for a couple of weeks, then I'll get back to videos and backing tracks.
@@HoustonGuitar It will take awhile for people to notice ,but when they do I'm sure you will see some folks choosing this format. I will keep an eye out for your next book for sure. I really do enjoy practicing alot more than I used to .
On 2.30 you went from the chord to the picking pattern. What is the picking pattern? Nice seeing your fingers hit the strings but not sure in what order.
See note at the bottom of this page. I'll tab out that section and post it here. These RH patterns are all covered in earlier examples. Also try playing video at a slower speed. Goes for all lesson videos on TH-cam. houstonguitar.com/fingerpicking-for-beginners/
Don’t see link in description??
As you can see, I'm rolling out this book/video package right now. The revised copy of the book is awaiting approval from Amazon, then they will post it, and I will post links to each of the video pages. That should take no longer than tomorrow or the next day. Thank you for your patience.
Most great finger pickers have a long thin thumb like an extra finger (ie John Mayer, Mark Knopfler, etc.). Can you finger pick if you have a short stubby thumb.
Short fingers can be a problem in the fretting hand. I wouldn't think it was a problem in the picking hand. I've taught for a long time, and I've never run into that problem. Like the Droopy. I'm a big fan of the old T&J, not the new cleaned-up ones.
I'm 65 and have played guitar all of my life. But not using finger picking style. So thank you for your free instructions, they are very much appreciated. The very little "picking" that I have done had the thumb in charge of the E, A, and D. Then followed by index - G, middle - B, and ring - E. Nice to know you can move around a bit.
Thank you, glad the lessons are helping. Please stay tuned. All of the videos will be uploaded in the next few days. Final edits for TH-cam are taking a little longer than I thought.
Palm of the hand resting on the bridge or floating? Thanks.
For the examples in this book, floating. I don't know that it's possible to combine this banjo-style technique with palm mute, because of the way you have to hold your wrist to get your fingers at a right angle. There are other fingerpicking techniques you can use with palm mute. I'm posting Video 5 on Examples 7-10 right this minute. I go into right hand posture in perhaps too much detail. Please take a look, and thanks very much for your question. The book is going up very shortly.
the reason why you think its random notes cause your not yet qualified to understand jazz....try listening bebop jazz....
ahah thats what im talking about
You can't just buy a guitar and start hammering on and bending and stuff, this is for beginers
well done
ya this is hella boring.
just use your ear, you dont need to know the name of what you're doing to play it
agreed i like to altrernate over a major progreesion back and forth between the major and minor pentatonics and also throwing mixolydian and major scale notes in there. Gives you alot more ideas and notes to work with : )
In my opinion you can still use the minor pentatonic. Sure it is not the best choice every time, but you can still play it. Normally the song sounds more like rock then. But in most cases it will sound better, if you combinate the minor and major third then (In the key of A: C and C sharp)
No, you have to use a major scale, meaning A major pentatonic which is the same patterns as A minor just moved down four frets to the F# , or a u can use a mixolydian, ionian, or any of your other major modes.
the key of the song is usually the first chord played in the rythem, if the first chord of the progression is A minor then you would want to use A minor pentatonic,A natural minor(aeolion mode), or A dorian or A phrygian mode, sometimes not all will sound good, you have to experiment a little bit
This is really usefull and think that will help me a lot, thanks!
I'm not sure what to say but, holy crap i can just goof around now and it sounds good. (you should post stuff for all the scales)
Oysy, I know exactly what you mean. It all changed for me when I stopped doing pentatonic scales and started doing major scales. Try it.
*Thank You*
he is the next hendrix
Sick vibrato man!
i cannot explain how much you have helped me, those passing notes hold so much feeling, without them it would sound so bland and emotionless. thankyou
You miss the point. If you understand what the Pentatonic scale is, you see it's entirely based off of it.
this is kinda boring no offensee
Woooo....Smoooooth...
Excellent material. Very instructive on how to play functional. Notes are related to each other and improvising is about building and releasing tension. That is more than running up an down a scale. After understanding how to play meaningful phrases you can play with real soul. Thanks for posting.
You got a lot of emotion going on there:-)
