5th Generation Liang style Bagua Shifu Zhang Xuean takes on Flying Tortoise Kung Fu Instructor Chris Lum as his Disciple. Zhang Shifu has been my teacher and dear friend since 2013. Chris has been my student for over 10 years and has studied Zhang Shifu's Bagua that entire span. It was such a wonderful thing to see these two amazing people come together.
The ceremony was held at the tomb of Baguazhang founder Dong Haichuan. during the event Chris was able to pay respect at the tomb's and shrines of every deceased master of our line including:
1) Dong HauChuan
2) Liang Zhenpu
3) Li Ziming
4) Zhang JinMing
following the respects he took his vows to Zhang Xuean and became an official member of the 6th Generation of the Liang Clan with the Bagua name
Qiang Hulin or Mighty Forrest Tiger. As Kung Fu names go, its pretty good :)
If you would like to learn Liang Bagua ,Chris teaches our Kung Fu Fundamentals class every Thursday night from 6:00pm-7:00pm at The Flying Tortoise Academy www.flyingtortoise.org/junior-instructors/2023/2/6/chris-lum

This video is amazing thank you!
Looks messy with a lot of brute power bad body mechanics need more practice
Hello, is this master still alive please?
Yup, Zhang Xuean is alive and well. I got to work with him in April.
@@flyingtortoisekungfu6020 ✨✨✨
Thank you for posting material on San Huang Pao Chui! It really is criminal, that this isn't more popular in the western sphere. If you wanted to post more material, potentially, going over ji ben gong, you would have a most loyal follower!!
I'll dig through my archive and see what I can do.
@@flyingtortoisekungfu6020 You, Sir are a gent and a scholar!
Great post thanks! Would this be considered a “Mud Stepping”?
Absolutely, each family I've worked with has a different method for breaking down the foundations of Mud Stepping. However, at a proficient level Liang. Cheng and Wang style stepping all becomes pretty much the same thing.
Congratulations Chris!!!
Ours is very different. Quite surprised and the differences actually.
It's an interesting version of the set for sure. Liu Mengeng was a wildly creative master. He was a scholar and combined his philosophical studies with his Bagua in some unique ways. As the 5th Generation Banner Holder under the LiuBin branch of the Cheng family it was his prerogative to do that. I haven't seem a Five Element version of the 8 Palms, Fists and Elbows anywhere else. My Shifu, Ni Rouhua is a 6th Generation Cheng. His version of the same form is vastly different. It consists of 6 sets. Palms, Fists, Elbows, Shang Pan (High Stance), Zhong Pan (Middle Stance) and Xia Pan (Low Stance). I don't have a great video of that form. Once of these days I'll film myself doing it and post it. I'm curious how your set differs.
@flyingtortoisekungfu6020 liubin lineage as well through Yang Guo Tai and my teach Josh Crossley. Our form circles, has some insert steps and more wrapping and twisting. My notes were lost in a move for all my baguazhang. Would have to hit up my teacher his martail brother to get the name list again
@@illiJomusic Very cool, I'll try to get my version of the form up in the next month or two, the kids are out for summer so time is a bit tight, I Look forward to talking more soon.
This proves what I have suspected, that bagua is useful as a healing practice. This will help me regain comfort and utility of my shoulders after surgery two years ago.
I had wonderful luck with this form as a therapeutic for my separated shoulder. My most favorite drill for shoulder rehab is this on th-cam.com/video/QyEr9g8ftaA/w-d-xo.html its a bit intense so take your time working into it.
This master picks his feet up and sets them firmly down. I have seen (in videos) instructors shuffling in their stepping and it seemed wrong to me. As they stepped forward, the sole of their shoes would scrape on the ground so that you could hear it.
There are many methods of BaGua stepping and someone may have a good reason for dragging their feet. That said, I've never seen an experienced practitioner in Beijing of either the Cheng or Liang families drag their feet.
Excellent
Thank you!
Thank you Sifu!
Thank you!
Super neat video!
Thank you!
Hey!! Jake Gladstone here...love it!
one thought - it would be helpful to see your feet when you are describing what they should be doing. otherwise fantastic
I know how perfectly aligned that has to be and relaxed at the proper moments. I studied a swimming dragon style at one point but don’t know enough about the different forms or lineages.
Y'all're 100% surviving a zombie apocalypse.
Congrats yall! Looks like some Xing yi, Bagauazhang Taiji maybe some Piqua or tongbei? Very cool mix of styles here! Great job on your demo! Lan Su is a great place to demo!
Excellent breakdown of the mechanics of bagua! Thank you!
This video is extraordinary, I don't know if people realize how hard these movements are, and the level of mastery this teacher has, at this age. I am in pretty good shape, but I started doing this walk at home and the amount of tension it highlighted in my body, unbalances and tightness is humbling. I am definitely going to allocate time to practice this walk. This video is short but provides a ton of insights that other videos don't. Thanks!

Yeesh, this is a hardcore workout for a begiinner! Ouch! Love your instructions!
i am a poor mother of a family of 7... we may have no money or food, but every christmas i gather the family around to show them this masterpiece of cinema. its the only thing that can distract us from our miserable lives... the artistry.. the dedication.. the love that you put into this is incomparable to any other film that has come out in cinematic history
Remember all lives matter
Nice! A real traditional spear he is using too. Love the giant Tassel. A wushu spear I don't think is good for Baguazhang spear. I may be biased though as I mainly do Traditional Kung Fu styles.
Fantastic demonstration!
24:34 HELLO???
No., the heel should touch and pivot. the stepping shoud be using the technique of earth step. Not walking with toes pointing around the circle. By doing that your feet are too close together when they pass each other rendering the stepping useless and the point of ba gua becomes moot. 8 steps around not many.
There are many forms of stepping in the Cheng BaGua system. That said, I have not encountered the type you are describing in either Cheng or Liang style, and none of the many teachers I have worked with in Beijing set a number of steps per circle, still I am glad that you have found success with it in your practice. All the best, Joey
Sorry, but this guy is doing nothing other than walking in a circle...oh, I almost forgot, he is wearing venerable white attire...cut me a break.
amazing.
Comprehensive, thanks for your efforts
Very high level!
I'm not going to lie.. I hate animated or anime (Subtitles) I'm going to stop pretending that I like em... this was a most welcome parody seeing this movie couldn't give us a eng dub... I hope more people on YT make more of these. the being "Hey dad where doing stuff yaaay" !!! 😅🤣😂🤭
Thank you for sharing 😊
That's a Great form! Most forms are pretty cool.... But every now and then you come across a great one!
Very simular to the version I learned from Cao Fengqi. I need to brush up on it though.
Nezha is a BOY!😂😂😂😂
It's impressive to see the commitment to write a script, follow through and voice it and then upload it onto TH-cam - I am in awe and impressed <3
