Have always used warm water and zero issues. Apparently old windscreens from the 1950's and earlier sometimes cracked if boiling water was used and that started the myth that you shouldn't use warm water but modern heat treated glass is fine with having warm water put on it. As a precaution I make sure to cover the whole pane of glass with warm water evenly so it heats up and expands all over at the same time.

Let me real with all of you, for 9 out of 10 of us listening to this, none of this advise is going to help. I have 4 years post-graduation experience in various branches of medicine, ALS certificate, NHS clinical attachment experience, multiple small courses, teaching experience etc. I have been applying for 10 months now, and I got only one single interview out of 300+ applications. I closely follow Person specification in every application and I have even attended a few courses on how to make my CV better. So, neither ALS nor CPD points are going to help you honestly. That is because unfortunately they have allowed simply too many IMG doctors to get their GMC registration without any plan to employ them afterwards, unless you have someone within some institution to help you out. That is the reality, so if you are even thinking of coming to the UK as a medical doctor, my advice is to think twice, because it is going to be a truly awful experience.
