I raise GSP's primarily because they are the most diverse, entertaining, infuriating, intelligent breed I have ever worked with. Mac was my first "gifted" pup to a mobility challenged hunter....he is one impressive partner!

Introduction to Miss Hazelnut Mocha, better known as "The Nut". She was bred to be multi-talented/disciplined and with her selected owner....there is nothing she can't do. I raise hunting dogs so water is an important activity to imprint them for. I start out with baths, wadding pool, and then the pond. Notice Dozer at 4 months already doing the fly-in entry. Water is good, water is fun. Special note, I NEVER USE A SPRAY BOTTLE TO DISCIPLINE! In the wild it is instinctive for puppies to keep their nest clean once they have some legs under them. I use that natural instinct to toilet train them through various steps. My pups are usually "outside" toilet trained via the doggie door by the time they are about 4 weeks old. Nature is such a wonderful teacher.

From the very start I teach them that the crate (nest) is the safest place to be. It is not tool for confinement, but a cherished place of rest and individual time. Imprinting them for success in their human coexistence is my primary focus.

Snooks - Day 4 training

Snooks is a German Shorthaired Pointer out of "Flag" and UplandHills Kennels "Rob". The pup had hernia surgery on Monday, picked her up Tuesday with only focus of calmly introducing her to the current 5 dog household. I didn't start really working her until Friday. This video is her actually only her 2nd day of real training, but 4th day of being with me.

What size is the whelping box?
Box is 4x4 and about 4-6" off the floor to accommodate a ramp for ehen yhey are ready to start exiting the nest
How old are the puppies in this video?
Starts out at less than 10 days (eyes aren't open yet), about 2.5 weeks they are piddle pad trained, whelping box trained at about 3-3.5 weeks old, and doggie door trained at about 4 weeks old.

Hi, I have a question. Where does the mom nurse at first when the bedding is so small? This is my biggest problem.
When mom goes in I spread out the blanket. I don't use artificial heating because the dam won't stay in the box because she overheats....when she leaves the box, I bundle up the pups again. The first week, the dam will pretty much stay in the box with them, only leaving when she has to do her business. I want the pups to associate with "the nest" so when I transfer it to crates...home is where the nest is.
