Normal speed video of shaping rose petals with a bit more explanation of what I'm doing and why. You can watch the whole thing if you like or just skip through to see progress as it is quite long.

Beautiful Gate! Really nice work!!
very cool job!! new Sub!!
Ниче так , покатит.
Thanks for sharing!
very nice rose design
I'll just go buy a sand blasting booth and have a go. . . . .
@@marktaylor865 what's a sandwich blasting booth? I did this outside, no booth. I used to have one of those cabinets but didn't find it much use.
Beautiful. I wish you well
Guess i dont know what a bowl is
@@jordanartinial4593 to your mind does a bowl have to be round?
Looks like you enjoy your craft, love to see it. everyone needs to love there work and appreciate it
@@jessboswell2581 cheers, yeah I like doing things to the best of my ability. Roses are a nice change for me as I don't usually do anything so delicate, so it's nice to engage with a side of the craft I don't normally do.
Amazing! 😍😍
Great work joel. Well done. Keep it up. Would love to see the end product or more of yor artistry on the tube but I know that takes up alot of unpaid time. Keep going .
Amazing!Bravo maestro!!!
ABsolutely robust good thinking.
Hey Joel. It might be a good idea to address why you’re texturing them. I’m sure there are beginner hobby smiths out there who would simply use untextured blanks. Showing the difference it makes might drive it home. But if you’re going for demonstration rather than education, then that’s cool.
@@nealthesmith haha, I think you're giving me more credit than I deserve in terms of planning. I normally start doing something & then think it's probably worth videoing the process & throw my phone up somewhere near by & hope for the best.
thats a great little top and bottom tool youve got. what steel are you using for the heads Does your editing suite allow you to keep normal time audio? Ive heard it on a different sort of channel and its really effective in speeded up sections, makes them a bit less manic sounding
@@TalRohan it was a jackhammer bit once upon a time. I just use a little app on my phone called YouCut. I just do it quickly when I grab 5 mins to myself when I'm not being shouted at by a toddler 😄
Nice one. I tried to make a similar swage recently and it was a total fail.
@@FeatherForge how come?
@ Made it one sided. Ended up that the top die just squashed the handle and ruined the tool. Not sure why. Your version looks much better.
@@FeatherForge do you remember what section you made the arm from?
@ 5x25 flat. Think I still have it in the scrap box but I’ll try and ping you a sketch bud.
@FeatherForge that'll be why then, that's too flimsy. I used 30 x 10 for these as there's little flex. I expect what happened to yours was either the arm wasn't bang on perpendicular to the hammer die, or the fuller on the tool wasn't welded bang on 90 degrees. So when the ram came down it pushed the fuller out at an angle, rather than straight down. I'm guessing it bent just behind the weld? That what always used to happen to me before I increased the stock size of my hammer tools
It’s amazing!
So much effort for a chalk sign 🤓 i jest they look great!
@@BlacksmithGen ha yeah, I did think that at the time! This was the end result www.joeltarr.co.uk/willow-brook-farm
Really like your videos, great glimpse behind the curtain 😊
Nice bend 👍 I`ve bent a bunch of heavy material over the years and I`m still surprised how stupid stubborn steel is , even when white...
@@dutchcuda a stubbornly bad back and/or tennis elbow also makes for harder work!
@@joeltarrartistblacksmith ow ... the main reason I decided to give up forging for a living was a tennis elbow!! Can`t have that... I couldn`t even lift my coffee. Take care of that buddy... and use machines whenever possible! They are more fun anywayz... 😁😎 keep up the good work. I like your video`s 👍
I like
this is my squishy....say hello squishy
Nice !
So far this is the firstvideo I have found of this particular machine in use. We are trying to decide whether to buy one. Do you have the Min model or Max model? The max is bigger. Are you happy with it? Any complaints? Thanks,
@@BooCherm I got it ages ago but from memory it was the bigger one of the two from a supplier in Poland. It served me well but I barely use it now since getting a big powered roller. If it's your only roller than I'd say yes it's useful.
@@joeltarrartistblacksmith Thanks, appreciate your reply
👏👍
Great job
I wonder if a stinger would make a good lightning rod.....there's something wrong with that thought....
looking great Joel, well worth the effort
Very clean!
Great video! My question is how much play is there in the jig between the handrail and the sides. I found when I tried something similar that the flat bar would twist and get jammed
I think from memory I allowed 4mm of play because I had some bits of 4mm sheet I could pack out the gaps with, then reduce to 3mm as the inside edge got thicker. It does twist a bit, but a few taps on the anvil will straighten it back up. I also just made some shoes for it so I can do 90 degree bends, with the air of heat. facebook.com/share/p/s5gLjm7LnUERnKgC/
I am always surprised by how complex the process is to make shapes and what appear to be simple bends accurately
Got to appreciate the utility of jigs. Hope you don’t need to tie a knot in this one. 😂
@@nealthesmith ha, oh yeah, that knot was a bit of a head scratcher. This is 30mm bar, that was 25mm, so not far off!
Yea Buddy that's some beefy stock. 👍
Very nice work! Thanks for showing...
Proper bit of kit ❤️
cool, the buckle in the end there is easier because there is a depth of furrow behind the top fuller that supports the outer edge. It gives the top fuller something to push against to make the deeper furrow. When you go freom outside in the top fuller just skates on the outside edge and has much more trouble pressing it in the right direction. There are a plethora of little jobs in blacksmithing that are made easier by moving from the inside out. If you are having trouble getting anything to move the way you want it change the direction of hammering/fullering and you'll be surprised how many times it works a treat great tip btw thanks for sharing. These also look like Echinodorus Muricatus leaves One for you Joel if you round off the ends of the top fuller (like a cross pein) just a little bit more it will smooth out some if the little marks you are getting in the vein
@@TalRohan I'll take your word for it on the species of leaf, you sound like you know what you're talking about 😃 not the best angle to see the tooling but both are very radiused, I think any little marks are from me slightly misaligning the leaf as I move it through. When I get it hot & do the shaping it gives me the space to get back in & planish out the marks though 🙂
@@joeltarrartistblacksmith ah cool I had not factored in the heating part ...could we see a finished one at some point...The species I mentioned is an aquatic species that occasionally grows up out of the water and forms leaves like that, about that size too lol .
@@TalRohan I made one before but have since tweaked the leaf shape a bit after client feedback. You can see the old finished one at the end of this video th-cam.com/video/uF21_yWVHzw/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
@@joeltarrartistblacksmith cool thanks
Id like to see your arbor press setup
How do you mean? As in, the whole fly press? The tooling is in the video, which is the important bit.
@@joeltarrartistblacksmith ah, fly press. Cool, I just assumed it was an arbor press
Nice one Joel! Hosta la vista! 😊

Stunning result.
Thanks Alan. Hope all's well with you.
interesting process, I really enjoy artistic blacksmithing and watching how other people do it is cool. I was wondering what height is the base of your flypress at ...body measurement of course rather than inches little bit weird seeing the camera vibrate with the strikes lol I really like that, Thanks for sharing
Cheers. Maybe around hip height? I didn't custom make it, I just saw a table for sale locally & put my fly press on it. Yes my phone is rubbish! The shake is stupid!!
@@joeltarrartistblacksmith cool thanks I've never found any information on it, I figued hammer height was about right but slightly higher means I'll be bending less..cheers
Great job
very cool, this is the kind of thing Flypresses absolutely excel at, theyre a reasonable price in the UK right now but if you look at buying one check the screw for wear...they still work with a worn screw but it can make them very sloppy if youre doing something other than forging work
Lovely work.
❤❤
Отличная работа! Молодец!
Did you want to turn it blue or simply darken it?
Lightly darken it back to a mill scale type finish, but without using heat or without using graphite paste.
