I recently convinced my fiancée to get into this show as we are both history nerds and also he just knows I really love it so he wanted to try it for me. I’m on season 5 so I’ve been continuing watching where I left off while also rewatching the first 4 seasons with him. I was so in love with Claire and Jamie that I forgot all about poor Frank’s struggles. Frank, like everyone in the show, had his faults. He is in no way perfect but he is a good man deep down. While what he did at certain points was inexcusable, like bringing his mistress to Claire’s graduation, you have to try and put yourself in his shoes. Your wife goes missing for 3 years, you have no idea what happened to her, whether she ran off and abandoned you or was taken by someone, and she comes back not only in love with another man, but carrying another man’s child. Frank was under no obligation to raise Brianna, but he stood up and was the best father he could be. And people always bring up the confrontation where Claire gave him an out, saying he should have left then and there. But what I’ve come to realize after rewatching this show is that for Frank, Claire is his Jamie, and he couldn’t let her go. Frank also gave Claire 2 chances to leave, but she still stayed as well because she did still love Frank, she just wasn’t in love with him anymore. I feel this is one of the sadder aspects of the show that nobody really talks about because of how much we love Jamie and everyone automatically hates on Frank, but I think it’s worth noting that Jamie is in no way a saint either. This is a beautiful edit and great song choice.

For a show that’s so serious and heavy, it was nice having Commander Lawrence as a comedic relief every now and then 😁

I feel a ton of sympathy for Catherine of Aragon who was a loyal wife and wonderful queen done horrifically wrong, but does anyone honestly think Anne had a choice in her relationship with Henry or not? She played hard to get because she had big ambitions and saw what happened to her sister, but it was going to happen in one way or another whether she liked it or not. Not to mention Henry just jumped at the chance to rid himself of the Pope's authority. Anne was doing her best with the hand dealt to her and she produced one of the best monarchs the country has ever seen. Her "blood was well spent", definitely.

Actually, so many Florence's songs suit Serena it's insane ! Big God yes and also (to mention a few) : "Which Witch" and "What kind of man" if we consider the toxic relationship she had with Fred Then there's also "Howl" which to me feels relatable to the whole show in general

How i love Penny Dreadful!!! Because any character of it pretend, or fake happiness like nowdays in the social media, with photos of their families, trips, daily Life, doing competitions about who is the happiest in love, in family, whi has more money. The monsters of Penny Dreadful were more humans than the normal ppl outside.
