Apologies for the poor-ish quality. The recording is using the same settings as my stream settings (which is max bitrate for Twitch). The stage itself isn't worth recording, so it begins right at the start of the Lev fight. Highly recommend checking out the entire game for yourself (it isn't like this). In a year packed with incredible games, this one is the best. Watch live at www.twitch.tv/zaiyu

Stop dragging out the end of your words when you talk ffs it's SO annoyyyyyyyyying
Sorry. It's been years since Death's Gambit, and it doesn't get better. :(
58:35 you can get that armor if you switch to Legend style and damage boost up to it from the hovering enemy.
19:36 has anyone ever figured out how to get that heart with Miriam yet? It's the only power up that has not been confirmed yet outside of Zangetsu only runs.
Gebel is the shit!! It’s hard to pick between Hachi and Gebel who has the easier Single Mode. Bat mode is so nice when you need it, and Gebel’s damage output is really solid for someone who don’t have a sub-weapon
Coming back to this after finally beating Zangetsu’s Single Mode….Alfred’s is a bit easier for sure, it starts out a bit harder, but since he can grab all those upgrades it gets easier. Stage 2 boss is Alfred’s biggest hoop, he just don’t have a good way to deal with it. Abaddon is tough too since Wind is all you really have there
If I was going to rank each single mode by difficulty… 1. Gebel’s is the easiest 2. Hachi’s is also pretty easy 3. Miriam, she can’t get the Armor upgrade, but her Axe still makes it pretty easy 4. Dominique 5. Robert 6. Alfred 7. Zangetsu
Yay!! I finally did it!! I beat Abaddon!! I beat Zangetsu’s Single Mode!!! Easily the toughest playthrough you can do….Alfred and Roberts Single Mode starts a little harder, but they have access to like 6 of the stat upgrades, including both the Armor and Gauntlet….Zangetsu can’t grab a single upgrade making his run the hardest to complete….like, Normal Zangetsu might not be the single worst character, but really he may as well be since the other characters can pick up the stat boosters… Against Gremory I used the Spell Tag like you, but against Abaddon I used the Chain Whip, lol I unloaded the entire 40 WP on the final form…for me it’s worth just being able to get in a few free hits, and the Chain Whip does respectable damage I’m not sure which is harder, Veteran Boss Rush or Zangetsu’s Single Mode lol….
Shew damn well done, this is EASILY the hardest thing possible you can do in the entire game, at least when it comes to specific playthroughs….Single Mode Zangetsu is BY FAR the hardest single character mode….Without allies OR ability upgrades, he’s easily the WORST character in the game….ive managed to beat solo Alfred AND solo Robert mode, as well as unlock every bonus setting by beating Boss Rush Veteran and this is the one single playthrough that’s giving me the hardest time….other than beating stuff on Legend mode, I’ve beaten EVERYTHING, the only thing left is Single Mode Zangetsu and it about to whip me haha…..not having access to a single stat boosting item really sucks too….its beyond strange that solo Alfred and Robert Moses were easier…guess those stat upgrades really make the difference…not to mention Normal Zangetsu has maybe the worst sub-weapons
If Ultimate Zangetsu was selectable in some form, his single mode might not be so bad….shoot the double jump alone would at least give him the Armor upgrade and maybe a couple more stat boosts….normal Zangetsu can’t pick up a SINGLE THING!! It’s kinda funny how the most busted character can be the worst character without those Ultimate abilities
So it’s better to stick in the bottom for phase3-3?
You never hear the track riddle in anything, I’ve never played large cavern but it was nice to hear that.
This game is not good, it’s difficulty and design keeps it from being that. I don’t know who in your chat said that but they haven’t played it.
I'm confused, what stats are filled in for this build???
Do you mean when you level up? In The Perfect Run achievement you don't level up at all. Sorry if I misunderstood.
@@zaiyuranger yes correct, but Im new player here. Any tips for stats? Well, if you don't, nevermind
I actually don't have good advice but probably HP is always good no matter what you're doing.
omg... I would have never thought of using the kick attack to speed up the fight, nor it occur to me that you could pause the game while counting the particles and adjusting time (I usually play this fight with window mode to see when the boss returns, and use paint to paste screenshots of the game to count the particles when they are too many) I feel like an idiot now for not figuring this out xD.
where can i see the achievements?
Thanks for uploading these videos, they were an inspiration for me when I recently attempted the runs with your same conditions. I'm honestly not sure if I'd put Alfred as the hardest character over Robert, it feels to me like Alchemy is generally much stronger than what Robert's weapons do and good use of the fire shield and ice spell let him effectively ignore projectiles (which bosses use a lot) and bulky enemies, respectively. Robert's subweapons let him deal with everything too, but they feel like they use more MP in the long term, and his fights often last longer and are harder to execute on generally. I also agree with the comment that said to use Wind on the second boss, not just because the fight becomes a little easier but also because it makes the first room of level 3 a lot less awkward. For fun, I also used the speedrun trainer to do runs with Soul Eraser Zangetsu and Ultimate Zangetsu. The former feels about as good as Miriam, the stronger subweapons let him play much more aggressive in some rooms and against some bosses but he doesn't gain any movement tech to get upgrades. Ultimate Zangetsu can grab every upgrade, can skip some rooms with his extra abilities, and has an even easier time against bosses. He might be even easier than Hachi as long as you don't try to speedrun every room and only dash where it'd actually help.
Im gonna go back and play this game again! Yo earned new subscriber! Very fun with your commentary. I loved it! Watch the whole video lol
Thank you for this playthrough! I only played with game and only passed the first 3 levels and stopped playing it due to the difficulty lol. I did managed to pass the first game but I have always loved Robert (Robert, Zengetsu and Alfred are my favorite characters).
took me hours to beat this boss, but I prevailed. very hard all the way. not gonna ever attempt a lvl run though :D
Recently bought the game. So far so good. My fav character is Dominique so I began her solo run. And my fav subweapon is by far ground spear (don't know the full name but it is Dominique's weapon). This subweapon is balanced unlike the others. Not so powerful but helps your jump high. Not good against bosses but costs 2 energy. And above all, its sound effect is so deep that mostly unhearable with the stage themes, & its delay effect seems bad but it is actually amazing; making you feel realer. Let's look the road remaint.
So many close calls! Nice work!
I've been playing this game for a few years now and I had not realized you can extend alfred's double to get all the power ups.
After seeing your other playthroughs and playing it myself, I almost want to say he's top 3 or 2 for Solo Mode. Miriam's run took you less time, but Gebel's run *heavily* handicapped you by playing the first 2 stages on a harder route, missing a power up, and playing Gremory's stage on a harder route. As for why I think she's worse: Miriam misses 2 of the most important power ups (being a Heart and the Armor), making her basically as frail as Zangetsu. Also, from personal experience, Miriam REALLY doesn't have any BS on her side, making everything she does skill-dependant. She has the same weakness of Zangetsu where she's an honest character and doesn't have anything that just blows through part of the game: Dominique can attack upwards, pole-jump over the hardest parts of stage 8 and heals herself and others, Alfred's Flame Wheel negates 90% of the enemies and skips Gremory (and if you can get lightning, he skips EVERY boss), Gebel skips entire stages, cheats death, and self-heals, Hachi is BS incarnate, and even Robert has the Scarf which skips the final and 4th bosses. Miriam can put in work with Axe, but it's too expensive to win her any boss - it just makes the fight easier. Everything else is completely honest.
Yeah, I ranked Miriam’s solo run as B tier mostly because of her not being able to get those very 2 upgrades lol. Hachi and Gebel have the easiest runs (S tier), then Dominique (A tier) Miriam’s run (B tier) is harder than Dominique’s….Robert and Alfred come in 5th and 6th respectively (both C tier)….and solo Zangetsu…………omg he’s the worst (D tier)…the game clearly wasn’t designed for solo Normal Zangetsu, he can’t pick up a single upgrade A theoretical Normal Zangetsu solo mode where he has access to the same upgrades as everyone else….idk, probably B Tier, below Dominique…..if Ultimate Zangetsu had the “Single Mode” easy A+ tier, above Dominique, or maybe even S tier
Funny thing is, I've since learned there's 2, if not 3 ways she can get the armor in Stage 7. First is as mentioned in the comments, and that's bouncing off of Dominique's heart plant. The second 2 actually involve switching to legendary difficulty, if only temporarily. Doing so makes a flying demon spawn on that screen, so you can theoretically damage boost to it using Dominique's high jump sub weapon (normal jumping is barely too low), but if that doesn't work you can also just use the wind spell to give you a jump boost.
1:07:22 That is pretty sick!
Good gameplay, but the way you end every sentence like it's a question gets pretty grating.
27:16 I actually accomplished this by acquiring the Axe at the end of the 3rd stage with those shield smashing enemies and then exiting and re-entering the game, restarting the stage with that sub weapon. Unfortunately, every single episode has a preset list of items, so in one episode (iirc) that alternate path's item is a WP boost, in others it is a Heart, and in Solo (at least with Miriam, but presumably others) it's just a 1-up. I assume this is because solo modes are hard coded to only have one power up per stage and the power up for 3 is the HP boost on the main path. Also unfortunately, you lose your sub weapons on stage select, so not only is there the hard limit on power ups but you also can't backtrack to stage 2 and go left at the start to get the heart (even if it would be more trouble than it's worth and isn't possible because there's only 1 powerup per stage.) 29:18 I'm pretty sure everyone except Zangetsu can get it easily. IIRC the ledge required a high jump (for Dominique, Miriam, and ofc Gebel), but there might have been some extra ground that Hachi could hover from, Robert can just wall jump off the other side, and I'm pretty sure (but not certain) Alfred can use Soul Vision to reach it, even if he falls off the edge. Theoretically Zangetsu can damage boost while falling from the right side, but it would be very precise and cost a lot of time every attempt (same goes for Hachi if he can't hover to it).
1:26:51 You continue to teach us new things about this game!
I love how every recording I've seen of this section absolutely DESTROYS the bitrate.

The inescapable pattern... so good that every form of Lev uses it!
Ah my favourite character. He is one of the bests
Well since I just beat all 7 solo modes I may as well make a tier list based on my playthroughs on CASUAL difficulty (I wish Veteran mode had the same checkpoints and zero lives, Casual is a bit too easy but Veteran….it’s not that it’s TOO hard, but the punishment for mistakes costs too much time in the long run, oh well)….on Veteran and harder difficulty, this tier list might look different, but here goes S tier: Hachi followed by Gebel Hachi is the king, invincibility plus high attack, plus ground pound, plus hovering makes using him easy mode, straight up….I didn’t die once, or ever really come close Second, Gebel is really good solo too. He has the best overall basic attack coverage AND dps, and his bat transformation allows for easy traversal plus a reasonable way to restore health….again, I didn’t die once, but came kinda close against Gremory… A tier: Dominique Boring character, her offensive sub weapons have their use, even pole vault, but it’s really hard to beat the ability to spawn in hearts….her high jump caused me to die a couple times, and I nearly lost to Abaddon due to thrown HP seeds not being able to touch solid ground in the second phase…don’t underestimate her pogo spear ability against Abaddon in the first phase B tier: Miriam Miriam is really powerful, again the high jump can cause more trouble than it’s worth sometimes, and she’s one of two characters who miss important stat upgrades, the armor being the worst. Aside from the armor, there’s a heart upgrade she can’t get. She has great coverage when needed and the axe DESTROYS….she might still deserve A tier placement, but not being able to pick up an HP upgrade and the armor really make her squishy in the final 2 levels, plus the axe don’t work as good as you’d want it to against Abaddon C tier: Robert followed by Alfred Both characters are surprisingly good solo, like, really good considering they were made for support. They’re both similar in being super duper strong in some areas and being really weak in a few. Alfred goes below Robert for having such a hard time against Abaddon…haha I used Wind, and it is by far the best spell in that fight, but when that’s your best option it makes for an uphill battle. Robert on the other hand can nuke Gremory AND Abaddon with the bullet scarf. Alfred’s Fire and Ice are Alfred’s best friends, to the point to where the only time I wish I had Lightning was against Abaddon, only so I didn’t have to use Wind, and Wind was nice in that fight. Ice SUCKS against bosses, but makes places with large enemies a win button lol D tier: Zangetsu Big surprise….Zangetsu is the worst character in this mode specifically. You can’t use Ultimate Zangetsu, or ANY of his additional abilities. He can’t access a SINGLE UPGRADE EITHER, which really really hurts. It makes him nearly as squishy as Alfred by the time you factor in Zangetsu’s lack of the Attack up Gauntlet and Defense up Armor upgrade items, along with the lack of any HP upgrades…..Zangetsu has really mid sub weapons along with zero upgrades to MP, so against tougher bosses, the chain or fire tag won’t do very well, leaving his rage sub-weapon to be his only decent option. You better learn enemy and boss patterns down pat in order to beat this game with normal Zangetsu. Traversing each stage actually isn’t bad most the time, advanced enemies and bosses are Zangetsu’s biggest walls. The fire tag and chain are both good, equal-yet-opposite coverage options for clearing out fodder, just not great in tougher battles, and BAD in tough boss battles. His poor basic attack range don’t help anything haha…. Bottom line, there’s zero cheese of any kind with him. Worst solo mode character….NOTE: again, I’m personally basing everything off Casual difficulty, but in the case of normal Zangetsu, I doubt difficulty is going to matter
Lol I can’t imagine doing single character mode with basically ANYONE on Veteran mode….I was able to beat and unlock everything in Boss Rush, and that’s about the hardest thing I’m gonna even attempt. It took really REALLY careful use of every single item and heart
The single modes are real tough. I never really dipped into boss rush but that's impressive!
Lol thanks, shew not gonna lie, it was brutal, it straight up requires full knowledge on boss patterns….and Gremory can be a real dick haha….learning where to go according to how he raises his hands is easy enough, but you also have those projectiles, AND you have to carefully manipulate where he flies to after each attack….the biggest thing Gremory kills you with is physical contact, mostly just wanted to unlock the infinite stuff like sub weapons respawning between battles and infinite magic…..luckily solo mode don’t unlock anything….BUUUUT I don’t have anything else to play at the moment so I’ve been doing some of em on casual mode (piss on vet mode haha) So far I’ve beat solo mode with Robert, Alfred, Gebel and Dominique…..the only one left I dread is Miriam, only because aside from normal Zangetsu, there’s some important buffs you can’t pick up….luckily she still does good damage, especially with that axe, but not having that armor buff is gonna SUCK against Gremory and Abaddon…
Until you have to fight Gremory and Abaddon, Robert is worse than Alfred….Fire and Ice are so busted getting through levels, but ugh, when Wind is your best option against Abaddon, it’s about a complete wall for me…luckily Fire works well against Gremory, but damn I can’t beat Abaddon to save my life I had Alfred being worse than Robert, but the Gremory and Abaddon boss fights alone are making me rethink my placements
Ugh, Alfred should be able to use Lightning for the abbadon fight at the very least….after all, if your going to be stuck with a crappy character, u should at least get access to all his attacks….yeah, fire and wind spells are powerful when fully understood, but his damage is still SO BAD lol Gebel might be my favorite solo character. Lol it’s hard to beat being able to fly and leech health back from enemies and bosses. His normal attack is really versatile too Zangetsu kinda sucks…but Ultimate Zangetsu is really nice with insane damage, double jumps and cheap yet effective attack items Dominique and Miriam….I find their extra high jump a bad thing as often as I find it a good thing…I guess that’s more of a “me” thing than anything haha….Dominique can heal herself, which is always nice, but her attack items aren’t nearly as good as Miriam’s. I definitely prefer Miriam as a solo character, but Dominique isn’t terrible by herself Hachi is always super solid, hard to beat being able to hover, walk on spikes, stomp enemies below, and that invincibility item….possibly the easiest solo character right with U. Zangetsu and Gebel Lastly Robert……his low health and low DPS really can hurt. He can attack from a safe distance, but really struggles in some areas without the right attack item. Everyone points at Alfred, but really Robert might be the worst solo character….like Alfred, he’s great support, but bad by himself
How many hours did you spend on this game to get so good at it???
I've got about 95 hours according to Steam. Tough game.
Very impressive! I've given up on it for awhile. Finally beat Lord Kaern and Council but can't get past Galaxy Mage. @@zaiyuranger
Dude I've dumped like 45-50 hours into this game and I can't make it past the big 3 - - Tundra, Galaxy Mage, and Council. I am beyond frustrated-- to the point that I deleted my save files and debated deleting the game -- I want to beat it though.... man you make it look easy.
Tundra and Galaxy Mage definitely frustrated me severely. to the point I abandoned my mage save and restarted as a Blood Knight and found out Mage sucks actually for damage output. Eventually got both Tundra and Galaxy Mage, though Council didn't really pose much of an issue for me.
To me the galaxy mage was a Mather of using the shield, tundra you are the one balancing the platform and you can destroy the ice when is being invocated, maybe mage flame tome against tundra and jumping attack
damn. I didn't know there were golden tokens. Luckily I stopped watching before seeing you unlock one. Looks like I have a long journey to go on. Thank you for your inspiration.
Good luck! It's tough, but so satisfying when you succeed.
Why did you fight Kaern? Isn't he an optional boss?
For fun, probably. It's been a while I have no idea if there was any real reason.
Is that supposed to be Green Orange/Despair from Zeroranger?
That's a great question. I think it's implied, but so little is explicitly stated we'll probably never know.
It is Primeval Fighter being inhabited by Lev, while Despair (or PF's pilot) is presumably reincarnated as Lilly
@@MHMegaactually, the events of zero ranger seemingly take palace in the far Future, and Lily was born in medieval times, so despair and Lily are not the same, since void stranger (probably) takes place before zero ranger, or It is an alternate universe.
The true ending of Zeroranger resets the timeline to the point where Primeval Fighter is killed. Afterwards, its corpse is likely used to found DIS, and then the comet seen in the true ending of Void Stranger creates the Void and seemingly forces humanity back to a medieval age. Lily is never explicitly stated to be related to Despair, but there are a loooot of obvious connections. Their themes share a leitmotif (Despair | My Guiding Star | Blossom Chime), they have the exact same hair, Erasure says that Lily "reminds her of someone" during the Lillith ending. Void Stranger likely takes place even further into the future than Zeroranger, as the events of 0Stranger are explictly stated to be in the past at the time of Gray's DIS ending.@@spidermacho123
My favourite boss in this game by design. Never fought him and never will, but i love the look of the arena, the boss and it has the best track in the game full of great music
The attack speed is what i like about this class, everything else feels too slow
Assassin was actually my first class that reached the ending. The burst damage is high. I used phoenix blades, their mote crash down is insane. Roll and stab attacks are good. You need to spam your skills, blitz strike does a lot of damage and inflicts bleed if one other skill is on cooldown. Gouge is great since it immobilizes the target, except most bosses are immune to it and you start to wonder what was the dev team smoking when they made this game, because there are so many issues like this. First skill is great if you have a talent that makes an afterimage that repeats the attack. Basically, the idea is stun with gouge, then use assassinate and its afterimage for damage and then use blitz strike for bleed and finish. With an upgrade your roll attacks prolong bleed by 3 sec, keep spamming roll attacks on a bleeding enemy Then again, for some reason this is the hardest "soulsvania" i've played, so what do i know
You said Dominique can tornado herself. How does that work?
It's been a long time so I don't remember the details specifically, but IIRC if you throw out the tornado point blank you can get lifted by it.
@@zaiyuranger I didn't even know that was a thing. You weren't kidding when you said the new characters had some good movement tech!
Oh. I remember you from your Death's Gambit s perfect runs! This will help me a lot with Hardboiled trophy. Thanks! Might as well subscribe too! :)
