Mr. Bungle // "Sleep Trilogy" // Trevor Dunn

"I didn’t know it was a trilogy until I wrote parts 2 & 3 and realized I had a running theme that originated with Slowly Growing Deaf. In a nutshell, that song (with Phlegmatics & Carry Stress In The Jaw) explores corporeal reactions to outside forces; the gradual decline of the human body due to social interactions. There is also the idea that while we sleep, our bodies recuperate and our mind...

Editors Notes (for much needed context) This recording was made during the "Sno-Core" tour, in which MB opened for System Of A Down, Incubus, and Puya. As the tour name suggests, it was promoted as some sort of "rock out with your balls out" testosterone fueled monster truck rally. Mr. Bungle, being who they are (with no manners and such), could not resist turning this concept on it's head. Or ...

It’s great hearing Slowly Growing Deaf without Mike Patton taking a dump and the awful hidden track on Carry Stress In The Jaw
coldsore is so nice i wish they rerecorded it or something.. would love to hear it with a better sound quality
Bär's band Umlaut (now also featuring Danny Heifetz) have taken to playing it live in recent years, so fingers crossed for a studio version on their next album 🤞
where the illustration with lyrics came from?
36:19
Patton and the band's ecleticism really shines with the random covers they just used to throw out there. two of my faves were the widely popular super Mario live medley they did (one of my earliest downloads back in the day) and the lampooning of Red Hot Chili Peppers for that Halloween show.
gay as hell band
Oh this is the best. WAAAAAAHHHHH
This is great stuff
19:32 - this bit is from the French film 'Alphaville', with the interview with the computer. th-cam.com/video/7aCEe9MYdvM/w-d-xo.html
1:40 I love how the singer just completely loses it here, it's not on the album version!
Start of album....Melvins???
Any idea what the unreleased song is on the new DV pressing?
I drove up from LA to see this show and brought my then girlfriend. She was surprisingly patient.
She left you after the show I suppose
Sooo gooood
This was one of my favorite concerts. Mike was simulating blowing one of the rude crowdmembers from the stage during I Feel For You. Incubus and SOAD both later spoke about how important Mr Bungle was to their bands. Awkward yet amazing. Feb 26 2000.
I love this window into my all-time favorite album!
What an amazing relic from the past!!
Where did this image come from? I love it. I’d like to make it the wallpaper on my phone. Source for the full pic?

this is fantastic. have my headphones on, great stuff.
why is spruance dressed up like the bass player for kajagoogoo? 😅 edit to be fair, can’t tell who it is by looks just that they’re playing guitar, not bass.
thanks for not including Spy / Secret Song in this
WOOOOOW THAAAAAAAAAANKS!!!!
When was this recorded? Thanks
Mr. Bungle abriendo para esas bandas de mierda, tedria que ser al reves! Ni siquiera es el mismo estilo!
Ellos fueron los últimos
@@Kupaleros Ok 👍
Is this slowed down in post or was it recorded like that?
They played an excellent and respectful cover of "Metti."
I love mystery in music, and I have no idea how this album ever came about. The level of creativity and chaos in the music is hard to believe. California, I don't feel the same way about. I feel like I know why and how they created most of those songs, I don't appreciate that.
I like all three 90s albums of theirs, and their demos except the unlistenable Bowel of Chili (I wanna like it but it’s too hard to listen to, I hope Bungle does that demo too but it’s not looking promising), and Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny. Vanity Fair is my least favorite song on these three albums, however.
Most won't understand - the few behold the greatness.
were you operating the soundboard at the time or was this received in a trade?
these dudes were always heavier from what it came after...bullshit like Slipknot or Mudvayne, the only band which would be at their same level performance wise was GWAR
Thanks That's all
For history books.
this progression is amazing good job dude
Excellent!!! I saw them on this same tour. Would love to see them again.
Bungle's most complex song, perhaps along with Carry Stress. Not even with the slo mo can I understand most of what Danny's playing here. Only this 6 mf could come up with something as fucked as this.
Playback Speed x 1.75 = lp version
put1 c'est bon .......!
Bruh this is awesome
Better than the album almost
Yeah, just found this. OMG! this is freakin awesome. Like a totally different version of my favorite album.

Nicely edited together, thank you. And I'm ashamed to say, I think that's the first time I've listened to the trilogy in sequence!
