Magical December Garden Tour, Festive Flowers for Winter, Small Space Hacks & Evergreen Folklore
Warmest welcome to our festive and flowery winter garden display, where we celebrate the season with the lushness and lore of beautiful evergreens, explain some of the ways we maximise seasonal use of space in our small garden, enjoy the sight (and sound) of a lovely buff-tailed bumblebee queen who forages on Hesperantha ‘Pink Princess’, Hellebore ‘Christmas Carol’ and ‘Shooting Star’, Salvia ‘Amistad’ and ‘Phyllis Fancy’ and (her favourite) Cyclamen persicum ‘Metalis Magenta’. Soak up the beautiful muted colours of misty rural scenes on a gentle ramble in the peaceful English countryside in our home county of Kent.
* FESTIVE THANK YOU *
Heartfelt thanks for your support this year! Sending warmest seasonal greetings and wishing you the most joyful times and nature-soothed minds.

    Please how to plant japanese anemone from seed?

    • @ApplePeaFernSea
      @ApplePeaFernSea หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is not something we have tried yet but the RHS suggests sowing species seeds in moist, gritty free-draining compost. Germination time and advice does vary according to climate. In the UK, autumn or winter sowings in a cold frame or on a cool window sill should result in germination as the weather warms. Some suppliers here suggest seedlings are best grown on in a greenhouse for their first year. Seed-raised plants do take several years to achieve flowering size. Good luck.

    I lived in Cornwall for more than forty years and enjoyed visiting the gardens there. My favourite was always Trebah in Mawnan Smith as I worked with Major Hibbert's daughter and she used to bring me lots of grapes and tomatoes that were grown there. My family still make fun of me because I used to tell the lady about my own garden (which was no bigger than a handkerchief as it was my first house) and one day she said, "if you like gardens, ours is on Gardeners' World tonight." I nearly died when I watched the programme and saw the size of it and had no idea that she lived in a cottage on the Trebah estate. She was such an unpretentious lady and we always kept in touch (when I moved to Cheshire) with annual Christmas cards and a letter inside. I was sad to hear that she passed away a couple of years ago. The Eden Project was in its infancy back then and Heligan looked nothing like this. Thanks for this video showing how far it's come since my last visit.

    • @ApplePeaFernSea
      @ApplePeaFernSea หลายเดือนก่อน

      What a great revelation Wendy, discovering the extent of your colleague’s ‘patch’ on Gardener’s World! It sounds as though Major Hibbert’s daughter was your kindred garden spirit, despite the difference in plot size. We share your affection for Trebah and know the area well. I recall the excitement of visits to Heligan and Eden Project when they first opened and have enjoyed returning over the years when possible. You might find last week’s article from the Guardian interesting, about Simon Armitage’s poetry installations at Heligan www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/nov/30/cornish-tourist-spot-unveils-spider-related-haiku-spun-by-simon-armitage-lost-gardens-of-heligan. Sending best wishes from Kent.

    I had a similar experience in our other home. I felt the presence of a couple standing by our bed each night. I finally asked what they wanted and they left. As we painted each room to make it our own, as we scraped away the old paint it turns out the paint I had purchased was it’s original color.

    Your well-anticipated videos are always filled with such a wealth of beauty and information. The colors were so pretty. I wish that sweet pine a healthy recuperation over the winter. With your care, how can it not! Looking forward to see if those tiny bulbs come out of the ground for you…hope so! I stayed for the ghost story! 👻

    I love autumn in this garden. The colours are still there but the atmosphere is softer, more in tune with the temperatures and the morning dew, more conducive to meditation, like a final lap before the end. I would also watch the tale again because I didn't fully understand all the subtlety of the end. Excellent idea in any case to have mixed ingredients that harmonize so well. Regards JL

    When I tried to plant some snakeshead fritillary this year, they kept tipping over as I dropped them in the hole. I probably should have used tweezers to guide them in. We'll see in the spring how many of them managed to land upright.

    • @ApplePeaFernSea
      @ApplePeaFernSea 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The upright ones may emerge first but the others will most likely u-turn their shoots to head up in the right direction, with mysterious homing pigeon instinct.

    I would be very interested in the further development of the Delos project. I often search in vain for new information, photos and videos from 2023-24. It may seem, that it is a specialty and a matter for a litle circle of enthusiasts. If so, the realization deserves all the more admiration and respect.

      We hope to bring a video update on the progress at Delos next year. Using the link below, you can scroll to the 2024/25 Delos update from the National Trust website - I am sure you’ll find it interesting, we eagerly wait to see how the garden evolves. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/kent/sissinghurst-castle-garden/recreating-delos-at-sissinghurst#:~:text=Reimagining%20Delos%20(2024%20%2D%202025),-Five%20years%20on&text=As%20well%20as%20a%20new,species%20in%20our%20changing%20climate.

      @@ApplePeaFernSea Thank you for the information, I found this earlier😌, looking forward to the publish. The Delos project helped me a lot in my own work in the garden. We have less rainfall here, about 600 l/m, short frost episodes still occur, and there is clay subsoil. By adjusting the substrate, I hope to improve the conditions for the plants. Time will tell.

      @@zahradajeraj9336 Adjusting the garden substrate sounds like a big undertaking but a great foundation for your plants to thrive, we hope the garden is a gorgeous success.

    Genius storyline, images and recording. APPLE PEA FERN SEA - love the meaning and would equally love to be visiting during January when snowing. How divine, pure and magical it looks. It doesn't snow in Sydney and would love to experience a season in the snow. Beautifully captured and presented. Thank you for sharing xo

    I LOVE your garden - it's an art work! Your tips are valuable so thank you very much for sharing. Question: do you have a video on how the garden looks in winter? I guess what I would like to see if what the pots look like before the foliage spills over and how you have ordered, placed all your pots. Thank you again and lots of love and vibrant energy from Sydney Australia p.s. Im new to gardening - last 2 years xoxox
