20 Testers? Google Play's New App Policy: A Survival Masterclass
Google's new 20-tester policy is just one of several controversial changes to the Google Play Console's app requirements, creating quite a stir in the community. They now require individual developers to test their apps with 20 testers for 14 days before allowing new apps to hit the Google Play store.
In this video, I will give you a masterclass on how to stop the panic and build an app that will have no problem getting these 20 testers and a raving community before you ever hit production. Your career and developer problems are solved!

Starting in April 2024, Google requires all developer accounts on the Google Play Store to verify their personal and business identities. Some of the necessary information could read like borderline legal jargon. In this video, I'll share everything you need to know about how to verify your developer account, whether as an individual or an organization. I'll also dive into the mysterious D-U-N-...

    GOOGLE PLAY IS ASKING FOR MY TAX EXCEPTION 😢..I CAN'T PLAY MY FAVORITE GAME ANYMORE

  • @starship1701
    @starship1701 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Honestly I just want to make a small game as a side project. I don't spend much time on social media besides twitch/discord/youtube (if you can't call that social media, then I actually don't use any social media at all), so if I actually get a publish-worthy app built then this is probably going to be a fairly difficult requirement for me to meet. EDIT: I just realized that google play is also now publicly displaying the full legal name and legal address of all developers for monetized apps. This means not only do you need to build a sizable community of interest, but you also now expose yourself to far too much risk. This is not a joke. An indie developer goes and starts streaming on twitch, as encouraged by google play store requirements, and you know what any viewer could easily do as soon as their app is published? Look at their address, and fucking SWAT them, because their privacy is not protected. This is awful and I will not be considering developing a monetized app for android unless this problem is fixed. I'll have to look at other approaches if I want to publish for android. I've seen developers redirect their community to a patreon from their discord, and that might be the way to go. If your community gets big enough and you expect monetization to be rather profitable, then the possibility of turning it into a real business opens up and maybe you can consider starting an LLC, but then what address does the LLC have? Not sure how it works at that point - I just know the cost can be expensive.

    These new changes are horrendous, and this isn't even the biggest issue, the biggest one is google enforcing EU DSA by making all developers who monetize in any way, even small indie ones, publish their HOME ADDRESS and personal phone number on their google play page for the whole internet to see. This is a major safety concern. When there s data breaches in companies' databases and peoples names phones and home addresses are leaked, its everywhere in the news. Google esentially forces all devs to voluntarily leak this info or outright stop making monetized apps

    This video is useless. You are trying to look smart, rather than be smart. You talk so fast like it is useful to someone. Nobody here has a clue what's going on. Quit wasting everyone's time posting videos if you are not going to try to help someone. It's not a damn race. Slow down. You only have to do a video once, WELL! Put some quality time in speaking clearly, and focused on your audience, as if you were speaking to a group of people in an auditorium who just paid you a lot of money, and it will teach everyone forever, and you never have to repeat it to anyone else ever again. This is how you spend your time wisely. Can you see why you don't need to talk so fast? I think you really are smart, but you haven't figured out how to help people. Here is a big hint. It may sound simple, but it will change everything for your audience: Go slow, like you are trying to tutor a dear friend who just came out of a long stay, in ICU, at the hospital from a serious accident, and is drugged up from prescription meds, so his head is groggy, but he now wants to change his life path and learn something new and interesting to start their life over with, and you want to spend some quality time with him by helping him do that. If it feels dumb or awkward to do it, don't worry about it, your audience is already pre-disposed to listen to you like they value your word and want to here what you have to say. Say all the same stuff, just do it slower. I'm only catching one of every three words you are saying. I'm really interested in what you are teaching here. You are not impressing me by how fast you are doing this, but by the fact that you are doing it. Now teach it to us.

    I'm so pissed, tired and depressed. My PERSONAL account is being force to agreed to expose my home address, since I implemented some kind of monetization in the past (long before this policy even being a possibility). What makes worse is GOOGLE SUPPORT suggesting me to create a second account to transfer my apps (to refund later to not pay twice), to have them without monetization in the new one, so I could have my address hidden again, since once your account goes monetize, you can't go back. They just failed to realize now transferring apps are only for account with merchant account configure, which no longer has personal type, making me pay again for nothing. I will lose my account, because I refuse to expose my home address. They made me paid another account, witch I will not get refunded 99% certain. And now they are just changing me from attendant to attendant. Google is a scam now guys. They robbed me just like that. All I can do is complain in my country respective entity this likely crime, knowing that I will never get even refunded for being guided by google support to buy another account, and all I can do is just to accept my old account being lost in a such imoral forced agreement, with no alternative or demonetization option. But I already know I lost twice. I'm autistic and depression got me hard on that one, I just want to hit my head in wall to feel less pain. Since we have personal accounts, and we bought them from google, we should be consider a customer with the need to have our address protected as well. In that perspective, google may be violating many countries law protection about personal data. We are not even people for google it seems.

    When you did the comparrison to Windows Store 7:06, you acknowledged that the first few rows were high quality apps. tbh most people, most of the time don't scroll past the first few rows anyhow. Even beyond this there were good quality apps mixed in with others. You were able to filter out by user rating, recognition, presentation etc. those apps that were probably not great. These factors allow people to gauge the quality already. If they do try something new, then it might not be great but might be decent and it allows recognition for new developers. A few years back the Windows Store had some fake apps, e.g. pay money to launch a free app, that should be filtered, but then these don't need 20 people testing over 14 days. Also a free app that doesn't have any sort of adult, third party or money making content or asks for personal information is not going to be exploitative. The way that Google do things, it stops any new developers without a ridiculous amount of money from becoming successful. I would make the same argument for new web developers who don't have a fortune to spend on add words, SEO etc.

    Perhaps my situation is quite unusual, but I teach people coding in clubs and camp sessions. So I actually want to make simple, derivative apps and games, that are easy to make and publish within a short period, to inspire young, enthusiastic prodigies to do likewise. We all need to start somewhere. Considering how they teach computing in schools and Harvard, I am sure at one stage even the likes of Zuckerburg was making a simple "hello world" program in Scratch at one point and then do similar for web and then smartphone use. They are creating barriers for young new developers to start. It is as if they only want large corporations to have any chance... wait, this is Google, ahh, it is becoming clear now.
