I had a themed colony with a custom xenotype of people who needed drugs or they die. ALL OF THE DRUGS. Every single one, deadly dependency. I was able to get everything set up okay except alcohol which was hard to get right, and two of my colonists went into a coma, meaning it was up to my final remaining guy (who would also go into a coma in a week) to finish making the beer and medically administer it to the others, while also trying to keep them fed. Luckily, with hours to spare, he managed to make a few beers! Which I immediately had him chug one before giving it to the rest

Rimworld is really new player unfriendly 😂 you either learn the game the hard way or from guides. And it's not just "let's start another round" game like CS or dota which a round lasts like 10 mins, but a colony built by days, weeks may be ruined in a few moments when you make the slightest mistake plus misfortunes. It's very unforgiving. But once you get grip of it, it can be very fun. Also don't forget about the 4 dlcs, if you are really into this game, then the dlcs are highly recommended.

Why are you playing with any DLCs right from the start. Biotech (the one that makes children possible) changes a whole lot in the game. Imo you shouldn't turn any DLCs or mods on if you don't know how to play base game

My first run ended becouse randy random gave all my colonist malaria into a raid and then one of my colonist got a mentalbreak and killd my boomalope in the room where every one was resting after the raid

Starting with a faith like this surrounded by christians. Its better to swear loyalty to somebody higher then you for protection. Other wise you might get endless holy wars against you. You also need relgious protection if you swear loyalty.

my first game went really well, i followed some instruction from playthough i found and it worked, got up to 7 colonist, then a thrubro came by, went manhunting, made me die even thought i managed to get him into the kill box whit 2 close range and the rest at range (he one shot every one)

Common sense and allow tool are both great mods. There’s also vanilla textures expanded if you want some improved textures Also I would suggest running your conduits through your walls as room beauty is extremely important. Lastly put recreational stuff in your dining room because they get mood buffs for both rooms at the same time

Great to see an update! Don't forget to consider your room temperature... Those coolers will cool one side and heat the other, also some buildings will generate heat, like those generators. I noticed your workshop area was around 55C, not so comfy :)

You need to place a Pen Marker inside your Pen. The marker will let colonist and animals know that it is a Pen. Also it will give you information on how much natural food the Pen produces per day as well as the amount of natural food the animals inside the Pen eat. When I say natural food i mean grass that grows naturally and not grass that your are actively sowing. If you want to have more natural food you need to increase the size of your Pen. Once you have a larger pen you can then build a barn. A barn is simply a wooden room, but the door is an "animal flap" this is a special door that animals can use that connects the barn with the rest of the pen. Also u want to have the barn floor made of hay. The idea of a barn is to protect animals from bad weather or other dangers and also have a place to sleep. You can create animal sleeping spots inside the barn. You can also have shelves on the barn to place Hay or Kibble. You can even put air conditioner and set the room temperature at -2C. This way the hay inside the barn wont go bad. Your animals wont suffer from -2C.

You can use "link settings button" when you select a shelf to link together several shelfs. This way when you change what is going to be on the shelf it auto changes for the whole group. Also if you build a new shelf and want to have it hold exactly what the linked group has, you can left click one of the linked shelves and shift click the new shelf that you are building and then click the link button (you can even shift click the blueprint of the new shelf you are building on the floor, so that when it finishes building it will already have the settings of the linked group).

My favourite aesthetic mod is called Interaction Bubbles. It takes all the text in the social tab and puts it into speech bubbles; you can see what they are talking about or what kids are learning just by watching and not by scrolling through their information. Another one I like using is called Avatar, it just generates a pixel art version of your colonists' faces in their tab when you click on them.

Love that series, seeing you learn is really enjoyable. I dont want to just tell you do and donts, but if you have trouble with hungry animals, maybe have a look into stockpiles ...maybe they can help you out a bit if case the land turns barren again

Putting the butcher table in the same room as the Stove increases the chance of food poisoning a lot. Consider separating them.

I didn't play the tutorial. I just hopped straight in. Lol. As you assume; Things did not go well. But i managed to like live for 15 days with absolutely no idea what i was doing. hahaha Good ol' Obnoxious Noob me struggling. I had a base half burred in a cliff face. haha.

Yeah RW has a steep learning curve - if anything this went better than most people's first colonies. And its good to see a new player take it in stride - its a great game but those first few can be disheartening when theres so much to learn. As for my firsts, I lost one of my earliest colonies to my own dog going berserk because his master died. I went from one of four dead to TPK in about 2 minutes.

i resorted to cannibaliism way too fast on my first playthrough so i'd say you did pretty well all things considered.

first game of rimworld only worryng about food and such maybe raiding an outpost occasionally and 39th game on the rim you get ur profits by selling organs and drugs and raiding and food by likely practicing cannibalism I personally dont practice cannibalism and yet still my main colony is a place of horrors

Remember to strip your enemies before you kill them if you can. Keeps the clothes from being tainted. And once you have a freezer you can butcher the corpse and forbid the human flesh so you have emergency desperation food. Cannibalism is always an option a necessity if you have a cannibal colony

I love this sort of stuff. I just finished a "serious" role play as Robert the Bruce, and a less serious one as the fictional Count of Dijon, Gaspar de la Porque, where all decisions were based on what would get him more food. Great video, liked and shared.

not sure if anyone gave you this tip but when forming a caravan to trade with nearby settlements you should bring/tame a pack animal. pack animals allows you to carry more things that you can trade with the nearby settlements. animals such as the muffalo and alpacas are pack animals. yeah thats all i can say for now.

Make sure your boomaloopes are isolated. They can die due to old age and kill your farm with it.

Caravans are just scary. Critical colonists must be removed from your base to go somewhere else (where they might die) so you have less workers and less base defense. Tip of the day: If you can get your hands on Chain Shotguns, use them preferably. They are the best DPS from the research I’ve done. They fire a burst fire of 3 shots and deal the same damage as a pump shotgun while only having a slightly worse ranged cooldown and aiming time (those are the two factors that effect how long you have to wait between shots) After you get component fabrication, I’d recommend researching Gas Operation and manufacturing Chain Shotguns for all your colonists.

Good job. Some minor tips I can give are - the power conduit reduces beauty in the room when they go through the floor as well as the power generator. This may seem unimportant but having a beautiful room can increase mood up to +15 which is very useful. - having dedicated rooms (e.g a kitchen, a rec room, bedroom ect.) can give you benefits as well. For example having a sterile kitchen can decrease the chances of cooking food that would give you food poisoning. - To see the quality of any given room and the beauty of a certain area is hotkey-ed to G and T respectfully or by clicking the picture of the man icon and the stats-looking bar icon on the bottom right side under the game speed buttons.

Take your time playing unmodded, vanilla Rimworld. Especially if you get the expansions.
