Watch before YOU BUY TrakRacer Recliner or Fiberglass GT Seat
may ask what is the measurement of the width of your rig from the widest point? I currently have 49 Ultrawide and considering going triple 32 but wondering how wide it is if I'll use a bezel free kit
Nice video 👍 I asked me the hole day what can I do, do get the hole base deeper because of the angle 📐 was the wheel to high for my felling. I changed the holders from the base plate with the four little screws from left to right right and used it overhead and it works perfect. Bit deeper with the right angle Thanks for your inspiration 🙏
Awesome man, glad you enjoyed.. I need to tinker with mine… just installed triples today/yesterday actually and the direct drive is hitting the monitors, it’s on my TODO list to get this lower. Thanks for commenting
@@Moore_Podiums nice 👍 I switched also weeks ago to a 38“ tripple setup with the mounted monitor stand and I’ve never thought that it’s so stable and nothing is shaking 🫨 and needs no space like the the stand alone.
Solid race, TJ! Le Mans drives and races differently from most other tracks and is thus a unique challenge. You did a solid job managing everything the whole race, don’t let the last lap snaffu bother you! Exit speed and braking efficiency is absolutely critical in every single corner here, especially on the Mulsanne straight.
Thank you, I would like to analyze some data on how to nail those turns one day. Lots of time left on the table
Thank you, so you don't see the complete steering wheel or side mirrors. I was always screwing around with those view options, now I don't have to.
Hey, nope! Pretty crazy to be honest. It actually felt really unsafe and I always had my FOV set up so I could see all 3 but it was much further back in real life.. really gotta turn the head to see tight side mirror and can barely see much
If I didn’t get into the Porsche and experience it for myself, I wouldn’t have believed it
Of course it all depends from one car to the next, but just like when we drive on public roads in traffic, you do need to turn your head to see your rear view and right side (left in RHD cars) mirror. Further, in a real race car you have two other limiting factors at play: 1) a real helmet limits your FOV just like a VR headset. Depends on helmet design and the shape of your noggin of course, but this means you need to turn your head more to see what you want to see. With a realistic sim display setup (triples or UW), I encourage drivers to turn their head like they naturally would in a real car. Easy to forget about! 2) any driver in a track car with a 6-pt harness SHOULD be wearing a HANS device that will slightly resist and limit neck movement for safety reasons. A driver will still be able to move their head around enough to see all three mirrors, but it’s not as natural as driving on public roads. The panoramic rear view mirror in the real Porsche in this video helps a lot with this! That’s all to say - what is truly realistic may not always be what’s “best” in a sim environment where we can in fact control all these details 😎
I have a similar mounting bracket for my wheelbase. I have my bracket upside down and mounted inside the gap instead of on top of it
Hey, i tried to do the flip as it was recommended by others but the measurements were off with the DD by about .25 inch on each side 🫠 Thank you for watching and commenting
I'm liking the new debris, anything that can add more immersion I'm all for! Love hearing the gravel flick up hitting my car, especially in VR.
It’s amazing. We were at turn 7 and 3 at Sebring and the amount of dirt on the track really makes a difference. Thank you for watching and commenting!
did you happen to measure how far away the wheel was from the dash? I know they say to get the monitors as close as possible, but the dash is the next closest thing I see on the screen after the wheel and always wanted it the proper distance (if possible) to the wheel.
Hey Aaron, 10 inches! Sorry for the delay, was out of town
I flipped the steering mount plate upside down so the wheel sits in between the side brackets and much lower.
Do you have a Moza R16 or R21 wheel base? Thanks for commenting
@@Moore_Podiums fanatec dd, the new cube-shaped one. it was impossible to put the wheel shaft at a reasonable height with the mounting plate right-side-up.
Great video.
Thank you, thanks for watching
pause the video at 13:50 and compere it to 7:40. If the Fov is supposed to be realistic, shouldn't it at least be a little similar. maby IRL looks better then on video...
Yeah, it was humbling to see how small the 49” ultra wide compared to the cockpit of the car… going to need some bigger screens to match
@@Moore_Podiums personally i would try moving the screen closer too the wheel. My 34" wide screen ( not ultra wide) is only 8" behind the wheel. and my head is about 29" away from the screen.. still want to upgrade to triple 32 ore 40" Ps: love the setup, hope to get close too something similar some day.
@@f.j.z3213 I have 3 boxes from TrakRacer in my room now so I no longer have to use the integrated monitor stand... stay tuned!
Come on man. It's "pore-shuh."
🤦♂️😅
I started sim racing 9 months ago, had no clue how to set my rig up "perfectly" - But i set it up in a way that it felt comfortable. Just watched this video and went back and forth measuring my rig, its so close to that porsche, just 1-2 degrees off on the seat and steering angle, everything else, is pretty much spot on.
That’s great to hear, I hope this helps!
This was great to see. Appreciate the effort, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome video! I have my DIY profile rig setup as close to realistic FOV and ergonomics as I possibly can for most GT / Touring Car scenarios. That's what "sim" racing is all about 👍
That’s awesome man and thank you for the comment!
Do you notice any flex to the back under hard braking?
For the fiberglass seat? Not really.. I would relate any flex to my rubber grommets to absorb the vibration noise from the butt kicker than the seat itself
@Moore_Podiums there was another youtube review on the gt seat where the back of the seat would push out when the operator pushed on the brakes. Just curious if this was an issue for you as well.
@@relaxfoo I did not have that experience, sounds like a cheaper way to get a motion sim 😆
Hey can you take measurements of the pedals? Like angle of the pedal face, it would help people with inverted pedals to easily mimick a real race car
Hey, I’ll be at the shop on Wednesday.. will answer here or you can join us on Wednesday night on @thechicaneclub and I can give you an answer live
@@Moore_Podiums Let's take the measurements live on our live stream tonight at 7:00pm ET 😉
Please be sure to join the Live Stream tonight to get any additional questions answered from Greg at @thechicaneclub
Hey Xavier, the break is curved but around -18% with he gas being flat and at a -10% according to iPhone level
Love this. Measurements and using real life as the metrics. Personally, I find the FOV police to be quite annoying (correr, but still), but I've been in VR for almost 3 years and... I can't remember the last time I heard someone mention the limited view and need for triple. I just... turn my head :D Love the seating position check and Greg's input on seating when he drives.
Thank you, Greg's input as a motosport professional and driving coach is invaluable and highly desired. He knows his stuff! glad you enjoyed!
VR is the way for sure although all of this makes for a great video!
Great review!
Thank you! gotta make sure the paddles are silent when the kids are sleeping!
This is all good information, but the one thing I disagree is every driver is a different size. Take NASCAR for instance. They all have their own custom built seats for their body type. They all mount their seats differently. Dale Earnhardt was known for mounting his seat directly on the floor. If you look at him from the side of his car, all you saw in his head So everybody's different. There's no set standard on mounting anything in a car. You can't just look at a chart and say, OK, do it like this. Everybody's different. I looked at the measurements you had there and then I looked at my SIM rig. There's no way I can have my seat 8 inches high. Mine's 13 inches high cause I'm different body size.
Personal preference is king, do what works for you
My knees hurt just looking at that much leg angle. No thanks. Slightly bent, not moderate bend. Also, id like to know the angle of the drivers mirror from center
Do what works for you my dude The panoramic mirror? From center of car or seat?
Its great to see a 1 to 1 comparison. Nice effort.
Thank you
Best explanation ever, to actually see it in a real car. Nice! Time for me to make adjustments.
Glad you enjoyed, remember there is personal preference that goes into some items so do what works for you!
I put the base behind the central monitor 8 years ago, and it is much more realistic, you just have to buy an axis extension...
Do you have an integrated or freestanding monitor stand?
Nice race with the GR @ Laguna! You were great under pressure, I can see you’re more visually comfortable and in control with the car since your recent visual and ergonomic changes to your rig. Your HR being lower is also a great indicator of that 👍
Thank you for the vote of confidence! Chaning the FOV and set up helped for sure
Black flag for short cutting at 6:00 is total BS! That was fair to me 👌
I agree
Great information!
Glad you liked it 🤘🏼
Yes finally ergonomics and physics. Not fun for the trolls and people hate discussing it. You actually have a real car to compare rather than forum banter. Just more argument to get bigger screen triples to try get a sense of how big the car is. FOV is a trial by error deal.
Triples seem highly attractive all of a sudden
Ok....I think the answer would be 26 " / 121 FOV.....but this value cannot be true if you press compute....!!! This 121 FOV value is custom made by you.!!!!
Yes it is custom set, sorry if I didn't make this clear enough. I hope this helped
Great job..!!🎉🎉🎉..I don't understand exactly what distance would be from the eye to the monitor... I have the same setup .. and the distance between my eyes and the screen is 54 cm!!.. and why did it result in 121 fov..... for you
Finally someone showing that you need a good bit of bend in your legs. All of these TH-cam videos and reddit comments that your leg should be close to straight while pushing the brakes are crazy to me. Whenever I try that it feels completely wrong. My leg seating position is more like how he sits in the Porsche and it always feels so much better having more leg bend than more straight leg
Glad this gave a different perspective
Thanks for the feedback, we totally agree!
I understand that the monitor itfself cannot move more forward, but try adjusting the eyes position inside iracing. You can bring the dash closer inside the game, this will make it more accurate to the irl video
I'll give it a go, thank you!
Thanks for the information, it is very useful for the position and distance of the legs when pressing the pedals !
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, TJ! Glad to help in making this one a reality. If any viewers here have any further questions, want to see other measurements, etc., we’d be glad to help with a follow up video!
Absolutely, thanks for the support!
Why not just use VR?
Haven't tried it..... yet!
@@Moore_Podiums Then you have something to look forward to. 😁 Happy sim racing! 🏎️
@@Moore_Podiumsyou should :) for me it was a game changer and i am driving a gt4 (not clubsport) in real life and did there same excersise to get as close to my seating position at my rig. Great video. Try a pimax crystal light with a good e.g. 4090 graphics card. For me it brought simracing to onother level of emersoion 👍
@ thanks for commenting, glad you get to drive a Porsche daily! There’s a chance I have triples in a box right now, stay tuned!
Because it potatoes your graphics.
Very helpful. Thanks a bunch !
Why do the pedals require that much leg strength?
That’s a question I don’t know the answer to but it is way more stiff than any regular car I’ve driven
Great question! A few things are at play here in real racecars that necessitate brake pedal forces up to 250 lbs (114kg) vs just a few pounds/kilos of pedal force with streetcars. As anyone who’s driven a modern streetcar can tell you, only a few pounds of force on the brake pedal are required to come to a comfortable stop, thanks to vacuum-assisted brake boosters (or even brake by wire systems in EVs or hybrids). Now as we all know with sim racing, brake pedal control is critical for performance in order to maintain rolling speed midcorner via trail braking. Imagine trying to carefully control your brake release into a corner with a heavily assisted brake pedal like a streetcar, while experiencing nearly 2Gs on your body. This would be like balancing a feather on your toe while riding a roller coaster (wind aside!). So, it is much easier to control a brake pedal without a brake booster being involved in a racecar, and hence is something all racecar drivers are used to. Eliminating the brake booster also reduces vehicle weight and eliminates an unnecessary failure point. In short, streetcars with boosters are built for comfort in gentle stops, while racecars are built for maximum control in threshold braking conditions. All of this is say that getting a good seating position that allows drivers to exert a sufficient and controlled force on the brake pedal is critical in real cars, but still important in sims, depending on your hardware, calibration, and preferences. There’s a few other engineering things at play here, so this is a slightly simplified answer. Check out Carroll Smith’s books for a more detailed dive into this. Thanks for asking!
@@thechicaneclub Wow! Great explanation. Appreciate you taking the time it took to put that together. I figured it was due to mechanical reasons. Simplification and such as you mentioned. Also that a longer brake stroke might be a more accurate, or a linear advantage so to speak. But the thought of the G-Force imbalance would have never crossed my mind. I totally get what you're saying. In straight line forward momentum braking it would really feel odd to have little to no resistance on the brake pedal, as in a daily automobile. On the other hand, and I've never ridden in or driven a real race car, I would imagine it feels nice to be able to transfer some of the g-forces on to the pedal. Thx again!
Don't forget you can also further adjust the in car view by pausing your replay from inside the cockpit and hitting crtl f12 to edit the cockpit camera settings. From there you have the ability to slide the seat (I guess it's technically your virtual eyes) forwards or backwards with the X offset and higher or lower with the Z offset. This will change your view in relation to the rest of the car without effecting the FOV. Plus you can save this setting for individual cars. FOV, at least how I understand it for iracing, you set based on the calculations more so for the scale of the world outside the car to feel correct, not necessarily so your placement and view from inside in the car is correct.
Thank you
You didn't show your actual seatings position 😂 oMg
It’s a cliff hanger
86kg haha
Math is not a stregnth of mine
@@Moore_Podiums haha i used Google. You should get a aluminium profile rig and VR.
Yesssss. THIS!
Shouldnt you put the screening closer? The dash is too small on rig in irl compared to steering wheel the dash should be bigger. :)
I would prefer to, yes. However the configuration for the TrakRacer integrated monitor mount does not allow for forward back adjustment, I could adjust my pedals more forward then do the same shift with the direct drive and seat. However we're limited to about 1.5 inches of forward movement left in the DD Mount. Triples might be on the way...stay tuned
Disregard, after moving my speakers it seems like I can adjust the integrated monitor mount about a quarter inch forward before it is fully maxed out. Not much of an improvement TBH
@@Moore_Podiums Nice, thanks for the video:)
Great Video. Very informative. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I think you missed the most important measurements...was really looking forward to watching this until you missed the following.... 1.)Angle of the back of the seat , I understand seats you cannot adjust that but that could help someone get in the middle just in case there lower part is different is also gives a better idea how straight or angled your back is , as every seat has different rack\angles 2.)The height of the steering wheel from the floor . this will give someone a ball park to start, height goes with angle but the height it the hardest to get right. 3.) to help with leg distance the face of the pedals to the front of the seat. obviously this changes with how tall a person is but gives a good ball park to start
all 3 of these are personal preference IRL
Hey, thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. I can take the measurements of what I prefer and get you those next Wednesday after the Thanksgiving break. For the seat, since the base and back is not adjustable in the TrakRacer GT Seat, setting the base angle will automatically do the back. However if you have a recliner seat, I could see how this would be helpful information. Stay tuned for ~15 days from now to get those to you
Most GT-style bolt-in fixed back seats (like the one in the Porsche here) have a 90-100 degree angle relative to the base of the seat and this is of course not adjustable. The variance is up to different preference and packaging. Racing seats like this have a fixed back angle to for increased safety and to reduce weight. Naturally, a streetcar style reclining seat affords you the option to adjust this angle, so whatever is best for driver comfort and control would be ideal. Like TJ points out, we’ve found that the angle of the base of the seat relative to the floor of the car/ground is between 15-25 degrees in most GT cars, and more reclined in Prototypes and Formula cars. Of course depends on the car and driver shape, size, preference, etc. Thanks for watching and sharing your feedback!
1) +17% according to ye ole iPhone 2) 15 inches from the top of the seat to the middle of the yolk , the floor is not flat so I couldn’t get a straight forward answer for that one
@@Moore_Podiums Thanks for the follow up!
Really cool video, thanks for making that.
Thank you for commenting and watching! I am glad you enjoyed
You can turn the cage up side down then you have the weel lower
It seems as if the DD is about a half inch too wide to fit if I was to flip it
@Moore_Podiums can you raise the seat and pedals if you can't flip the wheel? The distance from seat to floor is irreverent, as once you are seated and your feet are on the pedal plate, the pedal plate becomes the "floor"
@@festa289 sadly there is a pivot at the floor of the pedal plate which only allows for me to adjust angle of the pedals and not the actual height. After the video I've still been tweaking the seat and pedals because I could not get it 1:1 and it simply didn't feel right. The short comings of the TR8-Pro as compared to aluminum profile 😥
@Moore_Podiums Is the pedal plate just bolted to 2 pieces of 40x40 profile or similar? You could possibly replace those 2 lengths with 40x80, or 40x120, or 40x160 profile, to add 40mm of height with each step. I'm no stranger to modifying pipe style rigs lol, I had multiple over a decade. I moved to a TR160 a few years back, and was the best decision I ever made. I did still have to modify it a little XD
@@festa289 I'm actually not near my rig for the next week as I'm traveling but I'll look into it. I thought about looking into spacers to raise the height with extended bolts. I wanted to thank you for the long response to the thread, I do appreciate yall!
...and that's the benefit of an aluminum profile rig.
Agreed, the lack of adjustability of the TR8 is less than most aluminum profile rigs … hindsight Thanks for commenting
@@Moore_Podiums yeah, I too had my fair share of hindsight with this hobby...
@mementomori4972 can you share any other hindsight moments? I'm planning my rig out and I'm trying to avoid as many "mistakes" as possible
$400 Sparco FIA approved seat(Sprint L) is just waiting for my TR 160S to arrive - never had a doubt it was rigid enough. I will don't know why some burn money(marketing?) on poorly made fiberglass seats. Thanks for the video making me happy with my purchase.
Looks great! How are you liking it 6 months later? Just ordered my first full rig, TR120 and the TRX Hybrid fixed fiberglass seat. Been racing in a swiveling office chair and NLR 2.0 stand, so the Trak Racer rig is going to be a game changer for me.
Great question and thank you for taking the time to comment. I am happy with it, it is not as comfortable. I had some bad leg and back pain after a triathlon and this seat would always make the nerve issue flair up. Overall, I’m happy I went with this over the recliner. I got the chance to sit in a Porsche GT4 a few weeks ago that was for the track. The seat felt extremely similar.
Great video! im planning to make a sim that is really similar to yours, as in Trak Racer cockpit, the same samsung monitor, but one thing I'm stuck on is to go with fanatec or moza. I see you have the r16/21 wheelbase, which is what newton meters I'm looking for. My question is basically if you've had any problems with any moza products. Thank you!
No issues thus far! No need for the kill switch… it’s overkill 😅. I only run at 60% of the R16. In high downforce running at 100% good luck to get in a 15 minute race. The r16 does clip though at places like Monza, spa, algarve.. any places that have a hairpin . I do question if the R21 would face the same. New content coming out about the set up of my TR8 Pro and calibrations of Moza pithouse*
SIMAGIC is way better and has alot of great deals on right now.
Good video. I currently have the recliner seat and don’t find it too comfortable and been thinking about the fiberglass seat.
The fiberglass is less comfortable but more real. If you’re looking for comfort stay with the recliner and change the seat config where possible
