This reminds my of motorcycle f head engines build around the 1910s
Looks like an empire marine engine, probably is, who knows.
I prefer straight pipes, but this FM with a muffler, which appears to be original, has such a soft, soothing sound I could listen to it all day long.
I agree. I rallied this engine today and it didn’t disappoint. These Fairbanks Zs are really nice engines.
Thats a boat motor, the triangular wing mount on each side give it away. Those are for bolting it to the stringers..
Donkey engine for a bigger motor? used things like that on dozers and stuff as a starter motor.

That would be cool in a 3/4 scale BMW motorcycle.
A version of these were actually used in Douglas motorcycles. I think some of the internals are interchangeable.
In Australia, sometimes simple engines were copied by railway workshops. The unbranded copies were then used in crew carts for track maintenance etc. Yours may also have been used on farms to power small machines.
Appears that it's only purpose is to keep itself running.

Yes it was part of a military generator set.

It'd be interesting to compare the power now to what it was rated at as a diesel but I suspect it will be a lot lower.
Cummins did make a gas engine many, many many many, moons ago!!!😂 sparkplug for a Cummins!
