Reservoirs, and a derelict Mill
มุมมอง 2295 ปีที่แล้ว
I went to Stalybridge on the east side of Manchester to have a look around at some of the sights. Firstly I went to see Walkerswood and Brushes reservoirs and then off to an old Mill which looks like it won't be standing for much longer.
Dovestone Reservoir in the winter - Mavic Pro Platinum drone maiden flight
มุมมอง 1185 ปีที่แล้ว
I took the Mavic Pro Platinum drone to Dovestone Reservoir in the winter to have a practice, this is what happened. Also used the DJO Osmo Pocket for some of the shots.
Manchester Ship Canal (Ep 1) - Abandoned Manchester Docks
มุมมอง 4.5K5 ปีที่แล้ว
In the first of a series of videos exploring as much as I can of the Manchester Ship Canal I checked out Pomona, the furthest and most desolate part of what was once the Manchester Docks.
"The Illuminati" Steam Engine Locomotive
มุมมอง 1345 ปีที่แล้ว
I went to Blackpool on the final night of the Blackpool Illuminations to see a steam engine loco firing off into the distance.
Britains Oldest Disused Railway Tunnnels
มุมมอง 2925 ปีที่แล้ว
I was lucky enough to be invited out on an explore with Martin Zero and the Whitewicks to have a look at some old sealed off railway tunnels. My video is by no means a documentary style video with useful information, so if you want to learn a little more about the history of these places check out the following: Whitewicks Abandoned Railways: th-cam.com/channels/JV1EC8Mf87PpQYo9eUfd3Q.html Mart...
Hartford Mill in Oldham

Spotted this as I was driving around and had to stop and look.
Mark it’s always been Salford docks. G
Sort your sound levels out, I couldn't watch till the end because of your terrible music coming on obnoxiously loud.
In the late 60 and 70's my father had the transport Cafe on Trafford park road adjacent to the railway crossing near to the Kraft factory, I used to wonder along the railway tracks onto the docks, as a kid it had atmosphere and a certain buzz. I had some photos of those days but mainly my Dad worked on the tugs bring the ships into berths. He said goods were hand-balled and a lot of goods went missing hence the change to containers and sadly the demise of the docks with the introduction of the container ships. They were happy days . . .
A museum centre is a great idea for example the museum of London has moved into Docklands in London.
Amazing transformation from Docks much like London Docklands which is just down the road from me.. It is quite interesting to see some of the hidden clues. A friend lives in what was the Surrey Docks Area and we were in a Pub and someone said why is the country names on a wall and big iron rings in the pavement . I volunteered that the Roads may be named after the Country or Cargo Unloaded and the rings were for the ships to tie to. A couple of the group did not believe and an elderly chap at the bar said he went to sea in late twenties and ended up working as Ship Broker and what is now parks and car parks were berths for ships everyone found this amazing and I was quite chuffed that I had got my history correct..
Did you know that Manchester ship canal had an extensive rail system
I saw your film last year. I used to go to Bennett Brothers scrap yard and often had a wander round here. Makes a change not to see a burnt out Astra! I've watched Martin Zero too, and where he goes into the Corn Brook and meets the canal. I had a mooch in the late 90s when they planned the Met, just to see what was going to disappear
Superb
Great video !!. My Grandfather had a business on the Dock. "Packwood and Sons" were boatmen at Manchester Docks ie. they tied the ships up. I'm researching it as part of my family history and I still live local to Manchester myself. It's a shame there is no museum or place of further information on the docks with it being so prominent to Manchester's history.
That’s amazing!!! Love hearing about the people who worked there
The railway swing bridge in the middle of the quays was originally located across ship canal which linked up with the Trafford park railway system , the concrete plinths for the bridge are still in place which you caught in your footage, also near to the old racecourse ,Salford rugby played there before they moved to the willows
Excellent presentation thanks
Excellent presentation, thanks, there’s lots of amazing history just around the canals, from the Bridgewater canal in the 1700’s thru to the ship canal, then the decline of Trafford park and the working class people from Manchester, things change eh!! but the social history is amazing. Salford
Sorry Jimmy the audio is awful.. I can’t hear what your saying over that racket, shame!
Agreed.....it was unwatchable due to the music thumping away which just drowned out anything the guy was saying. Is the music necessary? I think not and personally i'd ditch it. At least then we'd be able to hear whats being said!
Hi Mark check out your doppelganger Brady haran.
A great trading post gone but was talking to a old boy was shipping in Japan shipping is going to make a huge come back it will be bigger than ever be for tbh in my eyes it brought more jobs more purpose less trucks on the road a lot of town and villages u can get to by barge and I rather travel by ship more adventure than sitting on a plane breathing someone else’s crap from there body
shame to see it , British industry gone and replaced with plastic offices for plastic people exchanging e mails and bits of paper and producing nothing
used to hate it in it's working days, as chief engineer on a merchant ship it was a long haul from the Bar light ship to Manchester and you would not believe the stench of the place
I remember looking over from the Ordsall bank many times in the 1970s and seeing many ships using the Pomona docks the Guinness boat from Dublin was a regular visitor there as were many of the smaller ships using the MSC. The last one I seen using the Pomona docks was a Roll On Roll Off ship in the early 1990s.
Love that!
hahaha, good job, educative and funny on the very end
Haha thank you so much
A lot of the names are Canadian, mainly because a major trading relationship of the docks was with Canada.
The main North American destinations for Manchester Liners were the Great Lakes of USA and Canada which had many major industrial ports.
Have seen Martin Zero site on TH-cam his an expert on this past and present and crawl along River Irwell and thru Culverts and goodness what have a look at his site....
Great shot of United ground!
What a place! Thank you
Oi are you a pidgin 🤣🤣🤣
You need to do proper research into the history of the docks like why it ended up with the name and why!! There is only 1 Dock in Manchester dock1 pomona Dock No's 2,3,4 are actually in old Trafford Dock No5 was in Salford next to colgate and palmolive opposite No4 Dock but got filled due to getting heavily silted up all the time as it was viable due to this I could go on more. The bridge that spans No9 Dock was actually situated next to Trafford Rd swing Bridge and was for trains to carry goods to and from the docks into Trafford Park it got moved round about 1996/7i watched it its progress and it being lifted on to a barge for its journey. My late dad was a lorry driver and always on the docks and when I was on holiday from school would be with him in his lorry and on the docks with him from 6 age of 5yrs old in 1972 loved it and I went to high school facing the docks and live on the estate oppersite the docks have done since I was born in 1967!!
Dock 9 wasn’t situated near Trafford road bridge but much further up Trafford rd near the Grain Elevator. I once lived on London street behind the stretch of Trafford rd facing that Giant concrete monolith.
@@daveglynn748 what you on about read what I have wrote who said No9 Dock was next to Trafford Rd Bridge I never
Hello from deepest darkest Swansea. I really like your videos- I had the pleasure of spending a great weekend in The Copthorne Hotel in the Quays recently and had a ball. As a result, I find the whole Manchester Docks area fascinating and your comedic, but informative, style of delivery is really engaging and interesting. I really look forward to seeing more around the place. :-)
Aww thank you thats lovely!
like your take on things, like your channel, like the subject matter but the sound a bit like old tv, loud music in the adverts then the stuff you wanna hear very quiet. your voice is more important than the musac
SALFORD Docks mate. Ordsall is not in Manchester😉
If its in Salford and its really good or a success. It suddenly transforms into Manchester. If its rundown or a failure its just grubby old Salford. Mancunians are very fussy about what to select to become Manchester.
Looking great now, love to see alot more tall buildings.
Nice! Great vid, very interesting!
Thank you very much!
I've seen that mill hundreds of times it will be weird not seen it bear 💯💖👍

Bloody hell, I remember when the docks was like that...I’m surprised you didn’t get cholera lol.

@@jimmyviaductophilelawley5587 I’m same age, also born in July but we swam in the Ashton Canal back then around Openshaw, bikes and shopping trolleys were the norm there.
hi just watched and i'm like your grandad ......i grew up in latchford and also lived in hulme and ordsall so spent23 years of my 48 living within 5 minutes walk of it....my series will make your grandad very hopefully when i've filmed it but god knows when that will be now....thanks for the footage very interesting!

Thank you pal 🙏
Ally law's aged quickly
Lovely stick ☺️ ps watch watch those sound levels between vocal and music 😯 lol
Talking over loud music is not a good idea.
Great video quality but sound is very quiet. Really enjoying your vlogs.
Thanks Dave! Yeah debating whether or not to go all in with the audio, probably will do for the next one. Thank you for watching 💛
Ooh I like that Mill 👍🏼
I really want to go back and do a proper video on it. We should go soon!!!
Wow !! Amazing footage 👍
Cheers our Martin 😎
Have to say I really enjoyed that, I am sure with time your transitions between shots will become more smooth and more seemless but you really have a good eye for a nice travel vlog. Would love a drone, sadly neither of my kidneys are worth selling. Keep up the good work buddy, really enjoing your vlogs.
Aww thanks Dave, yeah it was a bit of a practice go, I'm going to need a few more I think.. It's terrifying to operate haha
Kind Regards
I worked there occasionally as a student - in the late 70's Mark when it was the distribution center for Littlewood's catalog - It was amazing then - it had a canteen that could feed an army-run by formidable woman who made "Gravey Dinners " that seemed to me like a home from home - You should take a look at the old Hopwood Hall just off the Middleton Rochdale road thats being renovated by Hopwood De - Pree and his group of enthusiasts - It was Majestic in its time.
Haha thanks Trev, that's an ace story. I'm going to see if I can keep up with the demolition which has now started...
