But also means less insurance agents cause they would be dealing with with less people and essentially to the point where it’s just a group from each company fighting claims, rather thousands of people fighting each others claims, less cases and lower money generated

To become T shaped engineer, one needs to have enough experience in the industry like 10+ years, need to observe how the industry has evolved. He/She must be motivated to learn continuously, seen the perspective of OEM, Tier suppliers, various stakeholders etc. Storytelling is very important, as an engineer I (& many others like me) focus on technical topics, the communication, storytelling, and negotiation skills take a backseat, it's only in the later years we realize this importance & adapt. It's an art to simplify complex things to make the various stakeholders understand. Empathy in leadership makes a lot of sense. Thanks for this message.

Great video Dr Hasan, and one which goes straight to the heart of the matter which is Safety and Security are inherently connected! Too many companies are simple ignoring this requirement and need to jump on board to understand the impacts surrounding the security implications of ignoring how they could impact safety. Great that you are bringing this issue to the discussion table!

I'd like to make a comment and say that, while I love the methodology used to sniff and sort the can bus messages, both of these people don't have a clue what they're doing. I don't want to diminish their careers in the software industry, and I'm sure they would be great on a team. Having said that, there are other methods and tools for working with different networks in a vehicle. This gentleman did it the hard way and learned only how to control the window, but he still knows nothing about it. As for the Dr, using a vehicle simulator. They're only good for methodology teaching or something but have no real value. I can't write all night and teach them in a forum like this, but if these two knew just a tad bit more... They didn't mention anything about vehicle security at all. It wasn't to prevent automotive thefts. They simply didn't know. And to claim parts shortages is a reason to stop is total nonsense. He just didn't know how to continue. He hit a brick wall. The thing is, people's cars are being stolen constantly, and the people doing it know more than these two, which isn't much, but enough to be dangerous. Like I said, if these two knew a little more... they'd be dangerous.

The current nature of AI results in systems that are "trained" to react to specific scenarios without what humans call understanding. Understanding implies the ability to take experiences (tested patterns) and extrapolate the experiences to abstractions allowing appropriate behavior in similar but difference environments. This issue highlights the difference between data and information. Current AI works on the level of responding to data but does not yet convert a wealth of information into information which then allows understanding. AI systems do not understand their own thought processes. Likewise, humans cannot predict what AI will do beyond its training. We make assumptions about the context of systems. The AI does not make assumptions. AI still needs independent safety monitor subsystems which monitor context and provide constraints on the AI in real time related to environmental context. The problem still remains when the safety monitor context assumptions are violated. Should the AI-controlled vehicles simple stop in the middle of the road? Stopping because the software has no appropriate context is also highly unsafe in busy traffic.

The core idea, that a wide baseline system is necessary as it allows for longer range depth estimates, seems a bit particular. Humans have very small baselines, about 5cm to 8cm. This is actually even smaller than those found on the already deployed stereo-based systems of Subarus/Mercedes. Nevertheless, as humans, we seem to be able to manage just fine - be it truckers or car drivers. So why push this particular angle? Depth perception may be important, but how important is it really? People who play racing car games/simulators on 2D TVs & monitors seem to be able to do so just fine without any need for depth. They have even demonstrated that those who played F1 racing simulators at the top-level were able to do relatively well when placed into actual F1 cars on real tracks despite never having previously driven the real thing.
