Donington Park | Track Guide | A Beginners Perspective
Here's my track guide of Donnington Park from a beginners perspective.
I'm heading to Donington again next week on the Street Triple 675 R so this has been a good opportunity for me to reflect on where I can improve, and where I'm going wrong.
Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes and gain a better understanding of arguably the best track in the UK!

    I bought my Triple with the SC Project S1 fitted. They are far too loud even with the baffle in. It was so loud that I found myself riding in high gears/low revs just to try and soften it at normal speeds. It was so obnoxious that i decided to fit the stock exhaust back on. The stock exhaust is quiet, but I still preferred the riding experience over riding with the SC Project S1 fitted. I've since bought this exhaust and plan to fit it tomorrow. Hopefully, it'll be a happy medium of the two!

    Later turn in into Redgate, sounds like you're in third through there and holding it down Hollywood and craners, instead short shift forth and drive it through down over. Back one for old hairpin, later apex and drive out again, try to only use half the track exiting to stay right. Short shift 4-5 before tipping into the left and drive again up the hill. Back to third for the right hander. The rest looked ok and you knew where you could improve but it's decent for novice 👍🏻

    Do you hate your mechanic? :) I’m riding a 2016 Street Triple 675 R since new and fortunately never had this happen to me with more than 70.000 km on the clock (approx 44.000 miles). I do my own maintenance and have had those bolts off and on again many times. I would never put red Locktite on them since you need to be able to loosen them when you want to service or replace the cables they help hold in place. The Triumph service manual does not specify using any locktite on those bolts either. The reason that that bolt loosened was most likely a human error of not tightening it to spec. If you insist on using Locktite, at least use the blue, which still can be loosened without heat. Just my 2 cents :)

    • @sweet-triple-UK
      @sweet-triple-UK หลายเดือนก่อน

      No I don't hate my mechanic apart from when he gives me the bill, and yes you are bang on there, I should have used the blue loctite. So if you order some of these bolts from the factory they come pre thread locked with this chalky red stuff, hence why I bought and used the red. The thing is there aren't many use cases where you'd actually remove these bolts I don't think, correct me if I'm wrong. I think it was a recall or something as well at some point. Now I believe the Triumph mechanics do use loctite on them. I'm not 100% certain but did some reading into it and thing that it is Triumph spec to use Loctite. Any triumph Mechanics help out with this one? Out of interest what date was your service manual published maybe before the recall? I don't have a service manual so I can't be specific and confirm one way or the other. Think I'm going to ask my dealership, see what they say.

    • @thomassorensen5983
      @thomassorensen5983 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@sweet-triple-UK To be honest, I didn't notice (or remember) if there was any residue from factory-applied loctite (or equivalent) the very first time I had them off. The service manual (mine is Part Number 3856909, issue 1, 11.2012, from VIN 560477) is very specific when loctite or equivalent needs to be applied to bolts etc., and it does not mention any need for it on these bolts. In some instances, the service manual specifies that new bolts or fixings has to be used, and often glue comes pre-applied in those cases. That is not specified for these bolts either. Triumph can have had made a recall and change in policy at a later date, as you mention. If you have a link to a official resource where such recalls and changes in service instructions are available for us lay-men, please share. That would be a valuable resource. For good measures, I just double checked the manual (using chapter 4 page 7, describing the re-installation of the clutch cable) and only the torque spec of 7 Nm is mentioned, no loctite. Examples of the top of my head when I've removed and refitted the bolts in question: Replacing the clutch cable, removal and lubing of the throttle cable, replacing the throttle cable, replacing the front brake cable (ABS unit to lever), full access to dash/keylock cables to fix worn outer sleeve, and running new cabling from battery to USB outlet on the handlebar. Ride safe :)

      I’ll have a look mate, for me with the potential consequences of these working themselves loose imma always have em loctited in regardless for peace of mind. I’ll check my Haines manual see if it says anything there and do a bit of sleuthing., see if I can find what I read previously.

      Right, I can’t find it in my Haines manual, (but believe I may if I spent some more time) however I have just phoned the triumph service centre (Stratford upon Avon) and they have confirmed that these bolts need loctite applied. I believe your first edition manual is out of date. Keep an eye on those bolts if you haven’t applied loctite mate. Check out some of the comments on this thread and the Street Triple page on Facebook , you will hear a mixture of stories of accidents from these bolts working loose. And watch the beginning of my video where the bike wouldn’t turn. It’s honestly scary mate!

  • @Rust_valley_adventures
    @Rust_valley_adventures หลายเดือนก่อน

    It's not agood adventure bike, it's OK, seat horrible over long days riding, wind noise and wind buffeting is terrible , reliabilty questionable, build quality is hit and miss, great engine if it dont leak oil behind timing belt, great handling , really good performance on road, suspension too soft for anything technical offroad or ridden hard on road , mud blocks radiator very easily , lights not great at night,hand guards are comical , right thigh cooks in slow moving traffic or riding slow offroad in hot/warm weather, the exspensive termi exhaust and ducati evo remap from ducati is a must have to wake the engine up and for it to run cooler. Gear lever too low when its set at it highest postiin and threaded up, you will still struggle to get a enduro/adventure boot underneath it. A couple of hours riding won't show up the faults lol Brake discs prone to warping, weak rims for offroad, suspension too soft for serious off roading, chain and sprockets cheap and nasty, controls not back lit, 3rd party upgrades are better than the ducati oem upgrade parts and alot cheaper . Go online you soon see real.owners and the issues. Not all bikes but a good percentage have had issues, good job there's a 4 year warranty on desert x bikes lol What it needs... Outback mototek for crash protection and bash plate or a axp bash plate with other brand crash bars, dont use ali crash bars lol , bark busters are a must have ,termi exhaust and remap, option rally seat,puig windscreen with extra screen,change the tyres if you going to ride it offroad. Get springs to suit your weight have the fork.oil changed to heavier weight oil if you heavier that 15 stone. If you got the extra money get the rally version for offroading more than on road riding . If you want a bike to do big miles in a day and not ache and be comfortable get a africa twin I kid you not 😅 if you want all that and warp speeds get a ktm 1290 adv R 😂

But TBF that isn’t long enough to realise the floors. I would like to try one off road to see what it’s like. Yeah I do struggle with suspension geared towards lighter riders. Didn’t notice it on the roads I was on but off road may shine a light on it. Thanks for watching mate.

      @sweet-triple-UK it's all been sorted with no issues from dealer and sorted pretty quickly and they been great it's ducati italy that ain't very good lol ducati uk been excellent , lve owned loads of bikes from mx/enduro bikes ,super motos ,super nakeds to full on 200 bhp track bikes and I love the bike but the niggles has left me not wanting another Italian sausage lol it is a real good bike but if you use it as its intended/advertised to be used, ie offroad, rain or shine , 600 plus miles a day riding (wales to Scotland ) you soon see/feel the short comings even with after market wind screen and other upgrades etc it's not a proper long distance bike, if you out on it for a couple hours and want a big grin it's good but don't belive the hype about it as its far from perfect, some owners love it, I known a few that hated it because of issues, the ones who.love it have multiple ducatis and got lots of money and not alot of talent and spend lots of time at coffee shops and bike meets with all the gear and no idea lol for owners who back ground is offroad riding they find it lacking very quickly compared to say a ktm 890 adv R for offroad performance . No bike is perfect but for what I'm using it for there's better bikes out there

    Point of speakers on your bike is to speak directions to you using Apple car play, and you can listen to music. You’re simple not accustomed to that style of riding. A little Black Sabbath thumping in your ears, twist that throttle in sports mode and let it rip.

      Bit of Back Sabbath or Led Zeppelin - Now you’re talking, I do have speakers in my helmet for that though that aren’t affected by the wind, engine and road noise🤷‍♂️. But yeah you are right maybe I’m not used to the Harley style of riding just yet relaxed cruise open face helmet at 50mph blaring the music.

    Great video! I don't imagine the Harley riding community across the pond is quite as big as it is here in the US, especially in the Midwest. Sportbikes used to dominate in California, but I think the movement has switched to the big baggers in recent years. I just bought a 2024 Road Glide. I've been riding liter and 600 cc sportbikes for the past 26 years. I've had a Ducati 1098 and a Multistrada, GSXR 1000, GSXR 600, a 2021 S1000RR with the M package, so switching to a big bagger was quite an adjustment. I also used to have a 2018 Godlwing bagger and a 2019 BMW K1600B. Of the three baggers I've had, I like this Road Glide the most. The Goldwing handled the best at low speeds and the K1600B handled the best at high speeds and in the corners but it buffeted pretty bad at 90 mph and above. I also didn't like the BMW thumb-wheel controls to navigate the screens and infotainment system. I do wish the Road Glide had a reverse because it's a chore to move it around the driveway if there is any kind of an incline. Throttle response on the Glide is very abrupt at slow speeds in Road Mode, so I think I'll go into the custom ride mode and dial back the throttle response to something in between Rain and Road Modes. I can't imagine riding with 100% throttle response, that might be kind of scary with 130 ft-lbs of torque. One of the first things I'm going to change is to get some floorboards that allow me to put my feet back about a 1/2 inch or so to more of my natural riding position.

      @@sweet-triple-UK My prior bike was a Ultra Limited (same bat-wing firing) so that made an easy transition. As for Street Glide vs Road Glide - several reasons. First it LOOKS more like a the way cruising motorcycle should look (in my opinion). Next the Road Glide just reminds me of my old Honda Goldwing and Yamaha Venture Royale. The two bikes are close and someone once said - get the bike that makes you smile when you go to get on, and the Street Glide does that for me. Lastly, everyone over on this side of the pond is swarming to the Road Glides, and I like to be different.

    I'm concerned with volume levels. Is the Serket much louder than the OEM exhaust? I was going to get the Competition Werks but heard that it's too loud based on other people's experiences. Same thing with SC Project exhausts - too loud.

    • @sweet-triple-UK
      @sweet-triple-UK 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Serket is noticeably louder than the stock exhaust, but I wouldn’t say it is too loud. The SC is apparently much louder than the Serket. I’m not too sure about Competition Werks but I’ve heard they are loud! The only time it’s been a bit droney is on very long rides that I do about once a year when I go on the annual tour but I wear ear plugs anyway and would recommend anyone riding a motorbike do the same (Auritech are my favourite and cheapish). General riding it just improves the exhaust note and turned it up a few notches in volume. Haven’t tried it with the baffle out yet mind.

    Glad your problem is solved! For future viewers having a similar issue I would like to comment my experience with hot start issues on my 2014 Street triple R, as ive had 2 different issues: - When your bike cranks fine when hot, but is not happy to start without applying throttle, it could be the reed valves of the SAI system. I deleted mine and the issue went away. - If your bike cranks rather slow or doesn’t crank at all (only a clicking relay), and you’re sure the battery and charging system are not faulty, the problem is most likely the starter motor. These Denso starters all seem to start to fail at around 30-35k miles. The issue is more well know on the Tiger 800 (same engine), as they make more miles usually. The starter will ask for more and more current as it wears and at a certain point it’s too much for the battery when starting hot. To add to this last point, changing the battery can mask the underlaying issue of a slowly failing starter because it can deliver more current. I changed the battery and the issue came back after 4 months. Hopefully it won’t be the same for you but at least you know where to look ;)

    • @sweet-triple-UK
      @sweet-triple-UK 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching and for some really useful nuggets of information there. I will defo keep an eye on the starter motor if the issue persists. I also wonder if our generation also suffer with the reg/rec issues of old. @@sweet-triple-UK yeah the R/R was such a weakness on the earlier models. It was mounted towards the rear of the engine and the heat would eventually fry it. The unregulated current would cook the wiring and connectors and eventually killed the stator, a pretty costly affair. They changed the R/R and it’s bracket I believe in 2013 so that it’s facing towards the rear wheel, in a cooler spot. They very rarely go bad on the new design as far as I’m aware!
