The Darkside of Canggu
Don't believe everything you see about Canggu. It's a very dirty, crowded and expensive place to visit. It's possible to find cheap places to stay and eat, but beware. In December expect fireworks 24/7 (sounds bizarre but true), hundreds stray dogs shitting on the sidewalks. Overpriced places to eat (non street food) and terrible language barrier. People are very friendly for sure and that's the best part about the country in general. However, Canggu is overrun by scooters (who drive on the sidewalks when busy) and tourists. Not the greatest. Here's a full review of the trip. th-cam.com/video/xZ99w8zGqH8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1-Mng_48tqO0jPcB

BEWARE: WHY BALI (CANGGU) IS NOT WHAT YOU MAY THINK
มุมมอง 1.6Kวันที่ผ่านมา
I spent 21 days in the area and feel fooled by the glamour TH-cam videos talking about how amazing it is. Canggu is dirty, terrible traffic and loud. We heard roosters all and night that never stop. In December expect to hear fireworks all night every night. It can take over an hour to travel 1K via car (that's the norm) #canggu #bali #travel

I never wanted to go to Bali, my favourite place is Japan. I went for the first time last year and I’ve always worked in clinical environments so I’m a super hygiene freak in Bali. I researched thoroughly where I stayed based on personal recent reviews and photos and admittedly did not do Bali “cheap”. Used hand sanitizer, took colostrum, always stuck to decent places to eat and discussed with staff most frequently ordered items for fresher turnover. Had no issues and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I still prefer Japan but the highlight for me in beach clubs in the day and exploring outside tourist areas with my driver. About to go back. It’s not what I’d normally gravitate to but with strategy, planning and diligence it really is my top place to relax for a short trip. Couldn’t handle it for more than 10 days.
Thats the honest review of Bali specifically Canggu i've ever seen.. Canggu is different so much over the years ago..
Good customer support can make all the difference
This unfortunate gift card situation highlights the importance of handling customer complaints effectively. Even if the issue is out of your control, a sincere apology and attempt to find a solution can go a long way in preserving your brand reputation.
So true! It's refreshing to see someone be real and vulnerable online.
Until they laugh at him and his kids because people are hateful, soulless and cruel.
This video has changed my mind. I'll go to Fiji instead.
The foreigners destroyed nature this island what was 15 years ago , currently is the lower commercial level destination with price in 2025 like Europe lol
I think you're right....I do believe there are still plenty of places that are not touched yet, but the big areas are for sure.
Is slums only for some life loosers or broke foreigners who can’t afford stay in top world locations or even in own country , mostly aussie, russia, usa 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
How many times have u been to Bali? If it’s your first time and based on that, you just want to stay at a resort? 😂 dude, you gotta explore more of the island. You don’t really experience the real culture if you stay at a five star resort. Might as well just stay in your country and go to a resort there😂 And don’t blame the island for the weather 😂 so you don’t like Bali because you’ve been there once, been to a couple of bad villas, been to Canggu, and came at the rainy season? That doesn’t sound like an overall fair view of the place. And the thumbnail, come on man. It’s exaggerated and borderline clickbait. So for people out there, his experience is not a fair assessment of the island. Typical content for clicks…
Culture nothing is only India culture on this island , if you stay in 15 k Indonesia islands you can feel it and you can see it but not canggu Bali , or go to Europe we have multi culture over 30 different cultures amazing , not one cos is bored lol
@ what are you talking about, india culture? 😂Yes, there is an influence of Hinduism from India but Bali is no where the same like India. Lol. Bali has influence from old Javanese culture, as well as animalistic beliefs from hundred of years ago. A one time visit to Bali isn’t enough to “know” Bali culture and “experience” Bali. Like i said-dont go to Canggu. It’s by no means the real representation of Balinese culture. In contrast , it’s an example of what Bali is not.
I've been a couple of times and agree when you get out of the main areas it's a stunning place in beauty. With that said, on holiday with family you want to be near places to eat and things to do. Nusa is much much better versus Canggu which isn't close to being nice.
100% and that's my point. I watched Vlogs and saw it differently in real life.
Members of our group had been several times. We were in a rented home in Canggu for two weeks - the bulk of the trip, which, by the way, was nothing near what was advertised. We spent only the last few days at a resort which really is the only way to visit Bali in my opinion. You know, it's perfectly ok to have different opinions of a place, and I am so pleased if you've had great experiences there. We traveled with our entire family including my parents in their 70's and so health and safety was a massive consideration for us. Brians recount is simply a true reflection of the experience we had and which sadly affects our opinion of it. The villa we rented was very very badly misrepresented online and was in no way shape or form the luxury accommodation it purported to be. We did not mind the weather at all, we were fully aware and prepared it was rainy season. What did bother us was the unsanitary conditions in the villa kitchen - making all of us very sick with a host of gastric bacteria, the traffic congestion which made it impossible to take day trips, the terribly filthy conditions of the beaches (trash washing on shore from who knows where), the rain leaking onto our beds and into our closets - soaking our beds and clothing, the general trash and filth in the streets ... to name but a few challenges.
I spent a week in Bali last year and I’m going back in a few weeks. The people are lovely and friendly. The place is wonderful. The only thing I don’t like is there are no calm waters as it’s all ocean and that Starbucks is way more expensive than even in the U.K.! For me I always stay in hotels I can trust. I know air BnB and similar can be great but I also know it can turn out badly. Hotels in Bali are generally very reasonable. I spent a few nights at the RC too and it was lovely and very fair. Around $150 a night. The St Regis which is almost next door was however $500 a night for some reason… but even the non luxury hotels but still part of respected international brands can be $50 or less.
You’re primitive so exiting slums hahahaha , we went in 90 countries and this one is top 3 with India the most dirty slums locations
The St. Regis was over $1,000 and Ritz about 1/2 of that. We did a villa because there were 10 family members together, but hotel is the way to roll if you do go. The Villa is where we got very sick in our opinion based on cleanliness of the food preparation.
I'm so pleased you've had only good experiences there. I will agree with you; the people are truly lovely.... it's hard to be upset when they mess up an order or say yes to a request even though they clearly don't understand what you're asking due to the language barrier. Their living standards and pride in their surroundings also differ vastly from most of the Western world. I think it can be great if you stick to the well-known resorts as you mention - but for me, when I travel, I love to experience everything a country has to offer. Bali simply is not suitable for exploring.
I stayed at the United Colours of Bali for 50$ a night and it was the highlight of staying in Canggu back in April-May. Great hotel but I wouldn't go back for most of the reasons you mentioned in this video.
Canggu in general isn’t as sexy as the blogger make it seem. It’s also not cheap. Paid $300 for 2 week gym membership. It was $200 to get into venues on NYE. But even beyond that the dirty and crowded environment made it terrible. The saving grace is how friendly the people are.
@ yeah I can imagine it being like hell there during high season
@@Dmace69 canggu ❌ 🟰 Bali.
I'm Balinese, I'm i agree with that. There are many things that are not published.
Didn't meet one local person who was unfriendly or rude. It is unfortunate there's lack of infrastructure and standards for food safety for everyone.
Uluwatu is the spot in Bali
I heard that before.
Trusting internet ads, videos and photos was a huge mistake when choosing accommodation in Bali. Going to the loo at night with water floating around your feet seeping out the wall and floor (not sure where it was coming from the drain or just a pipe) was never something I would ever expect in any accommodation let alone an upmarket Villa. They put towels down to "sort the problem" but the damp and health risk was not even a consideration. Yes I got an upper respiratory infection ...the damp toilet and poor air circulation in the room ? or just coincidence?. The Villa is so neglected that most of the facilities (except the pool) had some maintenance issue. It also had serious safety issues that would not pass safety standards even in a third world country and I have travelled and stayed in hotels, villas, apartments and rooms in Africa, most of Europe, been to a number of islands, and travelled to the USA, and I was really disappointed in the standard of accommodation that is a luxury Villa. Maybe 30 years ago yes. (As example we stayed in a 3 bedroom chalet in March in Australia where a person reported feeling a shock from a stove and within less than an hour all the 5 units were shut down by the authorities and all the occupants had to leave, but we were moved to a beautiful beachfront apartment at no cost, apology and absolutely no trouble for the owners). This Villa had wiring in the one toilet hanging from the wall with insolation tape over the two exposed wires (acceptable ?). I would never go back to Canggu and as a result not to Bali. The one great experience was the lovely Indonesian people, they are really all so friendly and extremely kind, every single one of the local folk we met including the Villa staff. But A BIG NO to bad accommodation, NO to bacterial and viral infections and huge medical bills, and a BIG NO to everyone falling ill and not enjoying their holiday. (US$15,000 or A$23,800 for 13 nights just for accommodation at the Villa is not cheap by any standards).
You are not wrong sir
Bali was such a disappointment to me...after being so excited to visit "paradise". The "luxury" villa felt like camping with beds (at best), and we really had to dig deep and put on brave faces to make it through the two weeks. The kitchen was disgusting, and the bathrooms were WAY beyond the point of passing as luxury, never mind livable. I've never been happy to leave a holiday, but I just about kissed the ground when we got home. Feels like a gigantic waste of money AND time, and that's one Christmas I will never forget, sadly for the wrong reasons. 😞 If you insist on going to Bali, don't consider any area other than Nusa Dua - and choose a well-known resort rather than a "villa" or Airbnb. I can't speak for Uluwathu or the more inland region, but Nusa Dua is slightly better than Canggu, Kuta, and Seminyak - all disaster zones. You'll likely still get a gastric virus or bacteria, which will affect your holiday, but it's nicer to recover in a room with a clean, bug-free bathroom and have access to a clean beach and the ocean - which is the point of going on a beach vacation. All the beaches outside of the resorts are extroardinarily FILTHY and hard to get to due to traffic.
I would unfortunately have to agree with you. Canggu especially. It was crowded in a bad way, dirty and very low-end in every way. Hate to say that because I wanted to love it. I wish I took more photos of the trash and dirty beaches. BUT, the Ritz Carlton was very nice and wish we did that for 3 weeks.
I agree; the people are extremely kind but there is a lot of crime and gang activity
It was absolutely the worst place I've travelled to. It's so dirty and crowded.
Most people learned to drive a car by going through some sort of drivers ed training. They don’t just do it, and there is usually a lot of training done before hand.
Phew! I’ll definitely practice to do that!
Great advise
Give a real life story not a hypothetical it will hit more people 😂
Here’s one: two people watch the same video and the wise one says “this makes total sense and I should reflect on my thoughts” the fool watches only to find fault and says, “give a real life story not a hypothetical it will hit more people” interesting how perspective makes a huge difference.
I’ll give that a go
If you think businesses operate more ethically then the government you are very delusional
there a mix of both in the world. Sadly the trully underpaid worker are drowned into the mess of the bad worker complaining.
True
This is telling!
Yes, Salt Lake airport is aweful
So true
Love it!
Totally agree!!
Love this
Yup!!! Will be strange at the beginning
You're not wrong. But practice really makes a huge difference.
Id definitely complain, $250 to ship something that can fit in an envelope is insane. Id ask the desk lady to ship it to me and ill send her money to cover the costs plus her lunch. Does your lifetime statues even help? Damn man😂
didn't help me at all.. :)
I think Id be looking for lodging elsewhere.
Straight out robbery. I got robbed by the Utilimaster corp when I ordered some parts... evil

That really sucks man.
Having a tough day...walk through the ward at a Children's Hospital
100% agree....that's a great example.
Amen you said a mouth full!
Thank you for taking time to comment too.
Just talking about this with my 90 year old uncle at breakfast today. People complain waaaay tooooo much! They need to live in the moment. We're blessed with shelter, heat, AC, food, hundreds of restaurants.....yes, many need to have a new perspective!
Imagine in 20 years.....you would trade every possession and every thing for the 20 years back again. It's interesting how much time we spend hoping for things and not understanding what we have now is perfect. Thanks for commenting and special to have breakfast with your Uncle.
Free will doesn't exist. Purely determinism.
would love to know more about what you mean?
Great advice! Sucks that I only understand it after learning the hard way 😂
join the club :)
I think Trump came to the future, took this advice and went back in time and started to grow.
That’s what word on the street is 😂
How about damn near every time you spend $, you are asked if you want to give to some charity? Quite frankly, I don't eat out anymore since the prices have gone nuts. I can make anything I want at home, for less than half I'd pay at a restaurant, except chinese
cease the yap plz
That's a whole other story isn't it? It's almost like a guilt tactic.
I"m sorry you had to go through that.
lol...not sure we need that. but certainly hate being scammed by the company.
Amen!!!
Galatians 5:22-23
It’s worth noting that this mindset does depend on the trade-off both in business and personal stuff. When you go above and beyond, it’s usually under the assumption that you will be appreciated. It’s not looking at it transactionally so much as valuing yourself, being aware that your instincts are to give and then making sure you’re all on the same page.
Thanks for taking a moment to comment. I try to not assume they will appreciate anything I do (or I would be disappointed a lot) :) With that said, typically the law of reciprocity is alive and well in most cases. I have found by going above and beyond, people really are surprised because it seems most people are not willing to do so.
What skin issue? I see a man opeing up and nothing else. ❤ amazing video my friend
