I'm Irish, and my mom (born & raised in Belfast was not the best at Italian gravy. Although she tried it just didn't cut it. I learned from my Aunny Maria. My uncle's wife and a Brooklyn Italian and boy could she cook. She had that connection with the food she was preparing like you do. Yum! I was lucky to have her as my mentor. God bless you, and my Auntie Maria!

@@cookinwithma3305 Ah, okay. I actually use baking soda....it's incredible watching all the acid bubble away, and I am not having to add a source for added sweetness. I have also used a whole carrot, and then pulled it out at the end.

Wonderful recipe & presentation as usual bella Signora. I never had it with raisins until i had it from a NY guy vendor at the Columbus Day festival @ Seaside Heights, NJ. It was really good. My Nonna was from Calabria. She would use butcher's twine to tie them up and would stuff w/ hard-boiled egg, grated cheese mixture which is very tasty too. Grazie mille. Brava. 👏👏👍🤌

I'm from Philly and my family always called it gravy too not that that matters it doesn't. I tell ppl forget about the gravy/sauce debate is it gonna be good? Cause that's ALL that counts. If so, plate it up. 🙂 We call pasta "macaroni's" too. I didn't know what penne was until the mid to late 80's. I was a waiter and they gave us a pre-meal sample of the special. The chef said the pasta is penne. After we tasted it I must've looked confused because he called me over asked what's the problem. I said no problem I never heard of penne we always called them mostaccioli's. He just shook his head. Ha Ha. What's up next "Schadole" Soup? Dio vi benedica.

Im going to have to try that crush tomato brand. Been using hunts. I wonder if there is a big difference? Also, did you say 2 cans of whole tomatoes? Or is tgat 4 cans of crushed tomatoes? The cans look different but they all say crushed. No onions? In the godfellas, you need 3 onions lol Also for the sausages, how come you cook the whole? Ive been adding a pound of hamburger and a pound of sweet italian sausage but i mence it up like hamburger meat.

Love the recipe princess. Brooklyn? Jersey? Lol we both have strong accents and would not have it any other way. 😀 Me? Born and Raised in Bensonhurst Brooklyn. Almost similar to my Vodka Sauce Recipe but you took it to another notch. I use Buccatini like with my Carbonara Dish really get the flavor in that style of macaroni.
