FINALLY an actually good retopo tool for blender that doesn't trip over itself trying to come up with useless and inefficient gimmicks!! Thank you, Mark, for actually focusing on what matters, which is efficient core tools, integrated with the standard blender edit mode interface!

Still think this is a great Retopo tool, has speed up a boring and repetitive task and would recommend it to anyone! If you are using this tool and having problems a couple of things to look at that I dont think anyone has covered. Make sure you have applied all transforms, and if you are using multiple collections, the retopo object will generate in the first collection. DO NOT move it until you are done, otherwise this tool will not work. Hopefully this is a known bug that will be fixed in a future version.

@@Configurate I tried a simple set up and I am not seeing the issue. I am currently using 4.2 but the file I am working on is some what large and was created in 3.4 or 3.6 , could this be the issue?
Oh ok, so that is just the shorter way that I do it already with creating the lattice snapping it to the grid under the object, etc. just speeds that up, so that is useful.
Does it work to clone clothes, for example a bikini, onto a body?
Hello so if the UV Maps are set up on the body and the bikini mesh has good topology it would map clothes in this way, but there would be visible mesh 'seams' where the UV seams are. Love Quad Maker, it is now my go to retopo tool! I do have a question about the Retopology settings, the Auto Merge threshold and Retopology setting keep reverting to default. I am missing an option to save the settings?
For the moment you can stop it resetting altogether by going to the add-on settings and unticking “Toggle Retopology Settings when Entering or Exiting the Tool”. I will implement some better functionality that remembers your settings.

I think this might be because it is actually quite hard to detect and calculate the points where a mesh’s vertices is intersecting another. It might be quite slow as well - for instance, for each vertex/edge/face of one object you would have to test whether each face, edge and vertex is intersecting with it as well. Because blender’s Python API is single threaded, this means you would not be able to do these tests in parallel. So I think that is probably why you don’t see it often. It is easier for a human to eyeball it than a computer to calculate it. However, I’ll have a think and of course open to ideas…

This will be a good replacement for RetopoFlow. I hope you can integrate a similar polypen tool and also a move tool that can be accessed by holding a key like the other tools..

Try Blender 4.2 if you can: Blender 4.2 is the point at which drag & drop (and other features) was introduced and made Quad Maker possible.

Quad Maker - “Don’t Apologize, Retopologize”
I can see that being very useful for many people. But, may I ask a question? Do you know of any add-on which *visually* indicates locations on a mesh (in edit mode) where there are overlapping vertices, edges or faces? I don't understand why this is not already a feature of blender, it's so obvious. I also don't understand why there don't appear to be any addons which do this either.* Something that highlighted overlapping geometry in red (or whatever) would be such a nice quality of life feature. * mesh machine does do this, but I think it is only designed to work as a post-boolean fixit tool, in cyclical selections. Thanks.
Are you planning to update the "curves to mesh" addon?
There is an update waiting for testing which will remove the need for Preview mode, however it will also need some further work and documentation. Was there a feature you were hoping for?

O m g YES I have not used Maya in maybe 10 years? I also hate Maya. Never mind all that, no doubt their topology tool was really, really impressive. You are a godsend, Mark. All your add-ons are extremely well planned! I haven't thought this through but maybe a sibling tool to the smooth feature that allows you to grab/push quads in a brush-like fashion including falloff, could be something to consider. (Will purchase the tool now and reach out if any ideas appear. EDIT: Oh I see now that it has Tweak functions. Maybe that''ll be just enough.) EDIT2 (feedback): Fantastic overall! One very useful feature would be if you could continue the Draw operation from an existing quad that you've drawn. Example: Press D and draw a strip, then release mouse. If you then want to make a sharp turn (like an L shape), continuing from the last quad, it would create a new quad on top of the last one. Yes you can use E but that's slower. I think continuing with the D tool would be more efficient.

Hi, thanks for the tutorial. The displacement option don't work on my projects. There is always a little visual gap between different faces when I use the displacement option. Maybe it is a problem of the new blender version 4.x?

Hey…want to go with this add-on for clothes and all but will it work good with rigify and deform better after rigging?
Hey there, for wrap around objects that should work with Rigify I would recommend my Flowify or Mesh Materializer add-ons. Those add-ons should be more effective at wrapping objects and updating when the underlying mesh changes. Hope that helps and let me know if you have any issues via info@configurate.net
