The world through my eyes. Here you will find some of my travel adventures. Enjoy!
Solo Hiking the Alta Via 2
This is a short film about my 80km section hike on the Alta Via 2 in mid September starting in Brixen. Due to a low pressure system I encountered already some snow and ice on the way. As the weather hasn’t been stable with even more snow and ice to come on the following sections and especially via ferratas I decided to finish my hike at Passo San Pellegrino and come back another time for the rest.

Te Araroa ⎸ Living the Dream
มุมมอง 7K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is a visual diary documenting my 3000km long distance hike in New Zealand from Cape Reinga to Bluff starting mid December and finishing mid March. Whilst beaches, muddy forests, farmlands and road walking dominate the North Island, it’s the mountains on the South Island that provide an amazing tramping experience. Manaslu Tsum Valley ⎸ Trekking Nepal’s Hidden Gem
มุมมอง 1.6K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
In mid October we started our 14 day hike along the Manaslu Circuit with a detour into the beautiful Tsum Valley. This trail is known for its spectacular mountain views, ever changing landscapes, Tibetan culture and the Larkya La Pass at 5106m altitude. As the path slowly ascends you will have plenty of time to enjoy the views and to acclimatize proper too. The Tsum Valley, rich in cultural her...
Gröna Bandet ⎸ Southbound

This is my visual diary of Gröna Bandet, a long distance hike starting at Treriksröset, the northern most point of Sweden, stretching all along the Swedish mountain range and ending in Grövelsjön or vice versa. What makes this hike different, it’s not a defined path, you have to choose your own route instead. You will pass through diverse and spectacular scenery, from birch forests, lakes and r...
Kungsleden and beyond ⎸ A Thru Hike along the Swedish mountain chain
มุมมอง 6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a story about 3 individual hikers that became a strong trail family on their way on the Kungsleden and Gröna Bandet. Whilst the northern Kungsleden takes you about 460km from Abisko to Hemavan, the Gröna Bandet takes it even further - Hiking from Treriksröset, the point where Sweden, Norway and Finnland meet, along the Swedish mountain chain down south to Grövelsjön or vice versa, an in...
Solo Hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc
มุมมอง 1.8K2 ปีที่แล้ว
After finishing the Walker’s Haute Route in 2021 I was looking for another multi day hike. So I started a new hiking adventure in Juli 2022 on the most famous trek in the alps, The Tour du Mont Blanc. 9 days, 188 km, 11000 m elevation gain. This trail is a very popular one, you circumnavigate the entire Mont Blanc Massif and pass through France, Italy and Switzerland. The views are amazing but ...

This time we´ve been in Iceland and made our way to Landmannalaugar. There are some beautiful hikes to be found, we decided to do the Bláhnúkur Brennisteinsalda Loop. On this hike we crossed streams and lava fields, and whilst climbing these two peaks we experienced some of the best views Landmannalaugar has to offer. The Walker´s Haute Route | Hiking from Chamonix to Zermatt
มุมมอง 28K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In August/September 2021 my brother and I took 2 weeks off to hike 230km from Chamonix to Zermatt. We found ourselfs mostly on empty trails enjoying nature to the fullest. On our way we wittnessed a great range of 4000m peaks, traversed eleven mountain passes, crossed icy streams, passed glaciers and wandered through delightful valleys. The passes on this route stay always under 3000m of elevat...

Watching through your channel one video at a time and I'm just curious as to how you find enough time and money to do all these long distance hikes.
Find out what really matters in your life, prioritize, work hard, be willing to give up a lot and take some time off. I think that’s what the majority is doing when going on a long distance hike or eventually several ones :-)
Super great video for Tsum Valley Trekking
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Very nice video. Iceland is just something else
Thank you, Moritz! So true, Iceland is for sure one of those destinations you wanna visit more than once!
740km in 24 days is wild. I've only recently come across the existence of the Kungsleden and found what i read highly intriguing. This video only adds to it. Thank you.
Thank you, Moritz! Kungsleden is really beautiful and a great start for someone who wants to do a longer multi day hike. I can highly recommend it!
This should have way more views than it has. Amazing video. Keep it up :)
Thank you so much, Moritz! I'm glad you enjoyed this one!
I'm jealous and very keen to train and give it a go. Not sure about the backpack though, would need to practise as I haven't done any backpacking before. Awesome video, very visual and inspiring. Definitely on my bucket list.
Thank you very much, Sharon! Go for it, this hike is an incredible experience. I definitely recommend to practice some backpacking beforehand to get more confidence in what you're doing and especially dial in all your equipment. This will help to enjoy this adventure to the fullest.
Suuuch great views! Another well-made video.
Thank you very much, Eva! The Dolomites are always worth a visit, but hiking is much easier without all the snow and ice :-)
Just puur and beautiful thx Grettings
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed my video!
The video is really nice. I like how you captured the essence of local life, be it in the city of Kathmandu or in the mountains.
Thank you very much Moritz, I'm glad you enjoyed this video! To experience local life in Nepal, either in the big city or in the mountains should always be part of the journey, this makes it so much more enjoyable.
This was a really nice video. I'd love to see how the place looks in deep winter.
Thank you, Moritz! In deep winter it’s a winter wonderland :-)
epic hike in beautifull mountains, with some incredible views. what more can we ask ?
thank you very much for this kind comment! The Dolomites are always worth a visit!
Is there a phone app that you would recommend for navigating the Alta Via 2?
I don't know a specific app but what I can recommend is the Cicerone Guide book that gives you also access to gpx files that you can download to any navigation app/device (Gaia, Garmin, Suunto,...).
@@gonesurfing8603 thanks for your response! I have the Cicerone Guidebook for the AV2.
@@gonesurfing8603 thank you very much for your reply!
Thank you for the call to this adventure, thank you so much bro means a lot
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed my video!
2:35 Tourists go….? Home?
you're right, this is sad...
Nobody lives there. It doesn’t make sense.
Beautiful but the hum is too much
thank you very much. In regard to the hum, if you mean the wind noise by this, it is what is is if you're up in the mountains, if you mean the background music, yeah, that's my choice :-)
Wow what a landscape 😮
it's even better if you see it in person!
doe orangen Altras kenne ich schon 😂
This is heavenly beautiful country! You presented this so beautifully my friend! Bravo, film looks and feels amazing!
Thank you so much, Ervin! I highly appreciate it!
Very Nice? Thanks for making me reliving my last years' dream>
Thank you very much! I'm glad that you could experience this hike too and enjoyed watching my video!
HUUUGE FILM ! Lots of beautifull images, thank you from France sir !
And by the way, nice skill with the trekking pole 🚁😛
Thank you so much! I appreciate it! Maybe the TA is also a Trek for you?
@@gonesurfing8603 Maybe i gonna try it this Season ? Who knows ? 🤫
How much its cost for this trip.
Journeys like this one are usually a once in a lifetime experience. There are just too many factors in regard to costs to discuss them here in the comments. We choose the cheapest option by renting a car, which was our home and doing self guided tours over 3 weeks through some of the most stunning parts of Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe. Of course you can do it another way by choosing a travel company that will organize your trip and do guided tours through the Nationalparks, but this will be far more expensive in the end.
@gonesurfing8603 I am planning to start a trip from Nambia, Zambia, Zim Botswana and South Africa. What would be car rental charges?? And any other procedures in the borders
Brilliant…..simply brilliant! What time of year did you set off the start of the NI and then the SI?
thank you very much! I started my hike 12th of December at Cape Reinga and headed over to the South Island at the end of January.
Great video! Was there ever a time where you lost the trail in the rocky high mountains? I'm thinking about doing the WHR next year solo, and that's my only concern. I'm sure they have some markings, but I'd hate do get off trail
thank you very much! No worries, it's well marked, but it's always handy to have some kind of navigation device (gpx files on whatever app) just in case the weather and visibility turns bad especially when you're in the mountains.
@@gonesurfing8603 That's good to hear. I appreciate the help!
Great film Ralf. I've enjoyed watching your videos of some of the other places you have been in the world too. Happy trails🙂
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed also watching some of my other videos, I really appreciate it. Happy Trails!
Brilliant vid. He who speaks loudest speaks least.
Thank you so much for these kind words!
This is a great video!
Thank you so much, Chris! I'm glad you enjoyed my video!
Very inspiring. Would you like to share your packing list and thoughts and experiences about food on the trip?
Thank you Jonathan! In regard to my packing list here are my big 4: Backpack: Hyperlite Mountain Gear Southwest 55l, Tent: Z-Packs Plex Solo, Quilt: Enlightened Equipment Enigma (-6°Celsius), Sleeping mattress: Thermarest NeoAir Xlite (170cm). For all the rest of gear I can only recommend less is more :-) In regard to food I resupplied at the supermarkets on the way. This was an easy task, they have all you need. My longest food carry was 8 days between Abisko and Jäckvik on the Kungsleden. (Usually the huts provide some food but whilst I hiked this stretch some huts had been closed).
@@gonesurfing8603 Thank you. I just have to get going :-)
is it easy to follow the path ?... great film !
thank you so much! The trail is for most of the time quite easy to follow due to waymarks and trail apps. But there are some sections where many got lost due to the absence or bad way marking too :-)
Well done!
thank you very much!
@@gonesurfing8603hoping to do it one day
Love this video. Have watched it more than once! Can i ask what camera gear you used?
Thank you so much Steven! I used a Fuji XT5 with the Kit Lens Fujinon 18-55mm. When the weather turned bad as for the river crossings I used a Gopro Hero 11. These 2 cameras had been my "luxury items" and added some weight but I enjoyed documenting this hike a lot, so for me it was worth it :-)
Outstanding!
Thank you very much!
This video is incredible and inspiring! Thank you! I plan to walk some TA from mid-December to the end of January. I will have about 6 weeks. If I were to start at the top of South Island - how far (very average speed!) do you think I could make it? Are there any sections you suggest to skip and do different ones? I will fly to Wellington and fly out of Queenstown. I am flexible with the destinations - this is meant to be "the taster" ;-). I would greatly appreciate your advice.
Thank you very much! I'm sorry but i can't tell you how far you will make it as there are just too many factors, as for example the weather (maybe you have to skip sections because of the weather) and your experience in regard to long distance hikes. Every section has its own charm, beauty and challenges. I would recommend that you start your hike and see how it's going. Try to make it to Lake Tekapo and decide there, depending on remaining time, if you need to skip a section till Queenstown.
@@gonesurfing8603 Thank you for such a quick response, I understand your position here. So let's go for a different angle - what were your favourite sections on the South Island? The "not to miss" ones? ;-)
@@kasia2216 Well, I wouldn't skip any part from the start till Lake Tekapo. So you have some easy days on the Queen Charlotte Track till the start of the Richmond Ranges. Richmond Ranges and Nelson Lakes are amazing, as is the part from Boyle to Arthur's pass. The sections before Rakaia and Rangitata River, in between and afterwards till Lake Tekapoo are very nice too. The Motatapu Track between Lake Wanaka and Queenstown shouldn't be missed either :-)
Oh, By the way that bottle of Jacobs Creek/Pinot I think you will find that Australian - don't show the kiwis
thanks for this advice, Kerry! Next time I will hide it :-)
did you eat at the villages or did you cook up dehydrated meals?? great film!!!
thank you very much! Most of the time we ate at the refuges or in the villages, where you also could get some snacks. We didn't use dehydrated meals.
Totally wonderful, and thanks for sharing. Brings so many memories, as I did the same hike, the same year, but in the other direction! We should have met somewhere on Kungsleden, but I don't think we did. Anyway, beautiful footage (in two meanings of the word ;) ).
Thank you so much for this wonderful comment, Palle! It means a lot for me, especially when it comes from someone who also hiked GB. You’re right, we must have passed each other somewhere on Kungsleden :-)
Amazing footage, and inspiring journey Ralf! I chose this one to watch first because it’s on my bucket list of places to hike. Your video only made me want to go even more! Thank you!
Thank you, Caroline! It was a pleasure to meet you! I‘m sure you will do this hike in the future and you will enjoy it to the fullest!
Absolutely amazing video. So inspiring! What’s the drink you’re having at 26:38 - looks like beer, but there’s ice?
Thank you so much! I‘m glad you enjoyed my video! It’s ice in the drink, but no beer, it was kind of an apple cider.
Epic.... Well Done... This is me this year....
Thank you so much! It’s an amazing hike, you will love it!

Superb film👌👍
thank you very much, Shaun!
Did the Haute Route age 20 while in the Army in July 1982 with ZERO TRAINING. Big difference from then to now would be how little the amount of snow & ice there is now! Brilliant & scary at the same time.
thank you for this comment. It's true, on one hand I'm always excited to be able to still see some glaciers but on the other hand it's so sad that it maybe won't take long and they're gone.
I have managed to get one or two photo's but don't know how or where to share them?
Sooo good
thank you so much!
Beautiful beautiful film!
thank you very much!
What a great video. I myself plan to hike the Kungsleden next year. Unfortunately, my time only allows for a portion of the Kungsleden. Thanks for this video and the damn beautiful shots. Best regards from Germany.
thank you very much! Go for it, even if you can only do a portion of it. Luckily this trail allows you quite easily to do this, either you can choose the start or end section with their mountains (that are also the more popular ones) or the sections in between where you can enjoy even more the nature in solitude.
Beautiful video. Thank you for taking the time to put it together and share
Thank you so much, Sarah! It had been a pleasure not only hiking TA but also documenting it and putting it together in the end, what’s also always part of the journey for me.
Great video Ralf! It's a big commitment and it takes a lot of effort to make one of these vids. Hats off to you! It was really great meeting you and spending some time together on trail. All the best!
Thank you so much for these kind words, Valentijn! I hope you're well. It was a pleasure for me too hiking with your little group together, such an unforgettable adventure. Carpe diem!!!
Beautiful! Nicely filmed. I enjoyed seeing the entire trail overview in one video. Thanks for sharing.
thank you so much, Tenley! I saw that you also did the TA and documented it, Wow!!!
Thanks a lot for taking me down the memory lane! I walked the south island nobo in 2013/14 and your video just brought up so many wonderful memories.
Thanks for taking the time to watch my video, Janine! It's great to hear that you also got the chance to experience this adventure and the South Island is really the way to go if you only got time for one island.
