The House of the Seven Gables

In 1668, merchant and ship-owner John Turner built a house on Salem Harbor that was destined to become one of America’s most beloved historic homes. Designated a National Historic Landmark District in 2007, The House of the Seven Gables is best known today as the setting of world-renowned American author Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1851 novel.
In 1910, Salem philanthropist Caroline Emmerton restored the house and opened it to the public as a museum, using proceeds from ticket sales specifically to fund settlement work that benefited immigrant families. Over a century later, The House of the Seven Gables Settlement Association is dedicated to continuing Emmerton’s vision.

Tales of the Macabre 2024
This October, we are excited to offer three different theatrical experiences! From October 3rd to 30th, we invite you to enjoy "Tales of the Macabre."
Join The House of the Seven Gables and The Petticoat Pages for a haunting evening of literature’s darkest and creepiest classics brought to life on stage. Experience Ichabod Crane’s terror from “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” feel and hear the beating of Poe’s “Tell-Tale Heart,” become bewitched by Hawthorne’s Mistress Hibbins, and many other spooky stories. This performance is perfect for the literature aficionado and novice alike!
Tickets are $34 general admission and $29 for children under 12 and Gables Members.
