Type Changing like Delta Species is glorious BUT the Textbox that shuts a literal Part of the Game off by making them Immune against all Damage while they're on the Bench is the worst Mechanic I've seen in Years.

I came across this video in my recommended and I immediately assumed based on the topic and the way you format your videos that you had hundreds of thousands of subscribers, so it was a shock when I found out you are at 5K. Keep up the fantastic work and I hope to see this channel grow and thrive to become one of the top Pokemon TCGP commentary videos. I don’t see too many other people touching on the topics of Tera Pokemon and ace spec rules and critiquing the card game like you, and they way you present the topics is super clear to the audience. The simplistic editing is effective, comedic, and informative all at once. You’re doing amazing and I hope to see more videos from you in the future on these sort of topics. For someone how just got back into the game after 17 years. I really like Tera Pokémon they are like my favorite mechanic from the EX era that was Delta Species. One thing I would of liked was if it was more than just ex Pokémon. Again, this is an outsiders view, but not a fan of the 3 different energy for their tera attacks, feels like a lot of them are unplayable because of that.

Terrastialization is just not very aesthetically pleasing to me. nothing will beat M Ex Pokémon for me. Also the whole thing with the 5 different energy types is weird

As a magic player who briefly played Pokémon tcg during Sun/Moon era, it’s so wild to hear that the game’s equivalent of exile isn’t a common thing to use. I struggle to think of a deck that I play that doesn’t have the word “exile” in it at least once, and the Pokémon company struggles to print the lost zone at all.

Great take and entertaining delivery. I will say, as someone who's played a good bit of Hydreigon, that Hydreigon's "stellar" attack (the one that requires 3 different energies) b/c it actually CAN get 2 knockouts by sniping two single prizers BUT he has a solid 2-energy attack that he can use most of the time. You don't typically need to build around one attack or the other since they are both useful at different stages in the match.

The tera pokemons have a tera ability when your charging energy into it.

Love the video! You make a really good point about the Tera rulebox. It doesn't seem crazy game changing in most matchups, but overall I think it's a decent, fun gimmick that doesn't necessarily HAVE to be game changing and can just kinda be there for those random opportunities where it does come into play (maybe you retreat a Tera with like 30 hp left onto the bench and then it's protected, forcing your opponent to require gusting). And I think like you pointed out at the end, the main appeal behind Teras is the unique typing combinations that develop, especially with the newest set of Stellar Pokémon that use 3 different types of energy, which I think is just really cool. It'll be interesting to see how Teras continue to develop especially once all the Sword and Shield era seta rotate out in March, thus losing all Vstar abilities and such.

The Lost Zone seems to be the TCG's adaptation of the Distortion World, which may be why they don't want to use it. It got a return in SM because Ultra Space has enough thematic overlap, and in SWSH because BDSP and PLA made gen 4 stuff like the Distortion World relevant again even if it didn't feature in either game.

i think the main difference is that they brought the lost zone back during the Sun Moon era. im willing to bet we aren't getting lost zone support during the SV era

I don't play the card game but to my knowledge card type determines damage type so it is purely for coverage wherever the cards allow you to do so that's why the energy acceleration(you probably should use them before playing the tera version when possible) and trainer cards shouldn't matter because you swapped types to throw your opponent for a loop

Another reason pokevital, and neutralization zone got that text is it would be and inadvertent buff to giratina vstar and lost box, even if its substantialy worse than just running a different ace spec

Its not like the franchise is short of terms for bigger stronger pokemon of a species. Mighty, Alpha etc. I somewhat get that "rule box pokemon" sounds kind of stupid and not very evocative so they want to avoid it. Everyone would understand if a pokemon eX has a box that says "Mighty pokemon rule: this pokemon is worth 2 prizes". With the mighty rule being on what is now every 2 prize "rule box" mon that isnt a one prize rule box mon. It even gives you the flexibility of targeting all mighty pokemon, or just ex on a case by case basis and its still very clear.

I feel like there are several things that could be upgraded if PTCG was redesigned. Lost zone as a permanent feature. Have the number of prizes given be an actual stat. Decouple energy from types - we are starting to see this with all the styles, but really, this is just an echo of how gyms were designed in-game.

Idk why they're so afraid of healing like we're not in a hyper offensive meta. I want an ace spec full heal with no restrictions

8:48 - The Pokémon TCG has a weird relationship with healing. In older formats, it made sense to use Potions and even Super Potions in decks when the most HP a Pokémon had was 120. However, modern formats are more restrictive on healing. Hyper Potion healed 120 in Sword & Shield, but required removing two energy from the Pokémon that it was used on. (This during an era where the highest HP was at 150 for a basic one-prize card, 190 with evolutions for a one-prize card, 230 for a two-prize card, and at 340 for a three-prize card.) Even a good card like Hydrapple ex can only heal 30 damage once per turn.

With the aegislash example, i feel like these are intentional balancing choices. These "immune to EX/V/GX/ex/etc" cards are often immune to just one of them, while there are usually two styles of rule box pokemon in standard at any moment.

The only reason why these don't go to the lost zone is because mirage gate and the lost zone cards from lost origin are still legal, and they don't want to have them make these decks getting to their target numbers of cards in lz any faster. Sableye is a decent suspect, but mirage gate is the real offender. I wouldn't be surprised if we get new lost zone cards in the next year once lost origin rotates, and also wouldn't be surprised if they work off a different mechanic then the current ones (# of cards in lz)

Tera Pokemon should have been pokemon that start out with one type but become a different type on terastilizing. Basically the same thing from the games. This would have made them more unique than simply straight up being different type variations of Pokemon cards. For instance, if Charizard started out a Fire Type, but could then terastilize to Darkness, it would make so much more sense as a game mechanic. If you need to hit for weakness or you want to gain a resistance, you could Tera in certain matchups which could be interesting. It's confusing how they didn't apply almost anything from the games when designing this new card type
