In this video, I take you on an overnight bus journey from Chiang Mai to Pattaya, the cheapest and fastest option for budget travelers! Since there’s no direct bus from Chiang Mai to Pattaya, I first traveled to Bangkok and then changed buses to continue my journey to Pattaya.
We didn’t pre-book our tickets; instead, we bought the last available tickets at Chiang Mai Bus Terminal for the 8:20 PM departure. The overnight ride lasted about 10-11 hours, but the seats were surprisingly comfortable, with reclining options, blankets, snacks, and a water bottle included. At around 1:30 AM, we had a dinner break, and yes, the meal was also included in the ticket! The bus even had a washroom at the back, which was a big plus for long-distance travel.
We arrived in Bangkok at 6 AM and had some time to kill at the Mochit Bus Terminal before catching a 10 AM bus to Pattaya. The 2-hour ride to Pattaya was smooth, and I finally arrived at my destination just in time for my 2 PM hotel check-in.
This overnight bus journey is definitely the most affordable and quickest way to travel from Chiang Mai to Pattaya, especially when compared to other options like the train.
