Comparing 3 different types of acoustic strings on a Taylor 814ce DLX
This video compares the $6 D'addario phosphor bronze strings with the $11 Elixir nanowebs and the $15 D'addario DS strings. The guitar played is a Taylor 814 ce dlx with v-class bracing. Viewers are encouraged to weigh in on which strings they prefer and why. Can bodyrez fix the Taylor ES2
มุมมอง 10K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Many Taylor owners lament the quacky sound from the ES2 pickup system. This video shows the TC Helicon Play Acoustic pedal's "body rez" feature on a Taylor 814 CE DLX and illustrates how the pedal can make the plugged-in signal sound more like an acoustic sound. This pedal can be used on other guitar pickup systems as well.

Which one would you keep? Taylor or Furch?
มุมมอง 43K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The Taylor 814 CE DLX and Furch Red Deluxe Gc are similar acoustic guitars. They are the same size, shape, and are impeccably made and appointed. The main difference between these two is the back and sides being East Indian Rosewood on the Taylor and Cocobolo on the Furch. This video compares them with various styles of playing both acoustically and with their pickups. The viewer is encouraged ...

    Furch….sounds great,well made, and is cheaper……Taylor’s are over priced. Just an opinion from a non expert ….. at this. Made by people in a country that makes excellent quality firearms, a guitar is a piece of cake for them ! Thanks

      I agree it's well made and sounds great. It's actually $500 more than the Taylor. But worth it IMO

    Bought a 414ce-r-v class in November of 2022 . It sounds like heaven unplugged but like shit plugged in . The ES2 is garbage . Iv tries everything including body rez in the Plat Acoustic to no avail. I have a Sheeran Autum Variations (Lowden) with a LR Baggs Element that sounds incredible and its like a parlor guitar , a "W" model . Very small . It smokes the Taylor when plugged in so I'm installing the MI Si Align XT which uses the Baggs Element and retains the tone and volume controls so the Taylor looks stock . I sure hope the Element fixes the Taylor's issue. The Taylor is the best playing Guitar I have , and I have many high end guitars . Because of the playability and the tone im willing to do a mod that I should not have to do with a 3,000$ guitar, but I am , for those reasons . Taylor needs to get out of the pickup business.

      I wish I didn’t, but I totally share your sentiment. Taylor put out a 30-minute video teaching us how to get a good sound out of the ES2. It shouldn’t take that much work! None of my other axes required any work to make them sound good.

    Don't even need to listen to the two instruments here. Furch without question. I've played three different 814's including the pre V class bracing. Every one was a disappointment in that the bass response was pathetic. No warmth to the tone at all. I played a 714 which was a lot better. What on earth did Taylor do to the 814 which has the same rosewood/spruce combination I do not know. I can only surmise differences in the bracing..

    I’m a bit confused. The D’Addario strings are either “phosphor bronze” or “80/20” - you talk about one string with both names. Can you clear this up?

    Furch has better tone. Beautiful lows and mids. The Taylor just sounds like a Taylor with that strange high range. The Taylor has more volume but that is rarely important anymore

    taylor sounds much more flat, really small dynamic range in comparison to furch. have you used the same strings? I do like furch more tbh. much reacher overtones and more sonically balanced sound overall. To be fair, tailor also nice. May be used as dzingy accompaniment in big band.

    I have two 1990's Taylors, and they sound like the Furch, warm, punchy and loud. New Taylors sound a little "tinny" to me. I guess if I were a fingerpicker I'd go with the Taylor but for an "all around" instrument I'd go with the Furch. Reason, it seems to do everything well. New Taylors like the one you're playing don't seem to be that.

  • @dwigton65
    @dwigton65 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    to my ear, the Taylor has a much brighter sound, and the Furch is much better balanced and accurate. It has more bass punch, and it is mellower. It seems like the Furch body takes a much bigger role in tone than the Taylor.

    Different metals have different tensile and ductile strengths. If your guitar has a set up to be at optimum for the phosphor bronze, then you'll have to tweak the set up slightly to be optimum with Titanium; in other words, 'to avoid buzzing'.

    Very informative. Thank you. I have the S1 Pro+ and really trying to avoid using my guitar amp or investing in even more equipment for my solo acoustic shows. I’m ignorant, though. So far, sounds like I wouldn’t be able to go directly from my guitar 1/4” to the Bose speaker. Is that correct? Do I need some kind of DI regardless? The speaker itself is fantastic, but I’d still like to eliminate the need for more equipment.

    Conparison videos are always fun, but I always recommend to go out and play them. All the taylors I've ever played, which is dozens and dozens, suck turbo arse even the 800 series models I've played. There was one 214 plus that I played in Tonawanda that i really liked but for most part they just dont make me feel like they're alive. Experience has generally been a little better with Furch, but only considerably and not substantially. If you can afford it, the best thing to do is commission one from a skilled luthier who can tailor the build to every one of your individual needs. I don't make a lot of money, so it was patiently saving for what felt like an eternity but it was absolutely worth it. Unfortunately for any off the rack guitar, they have been optimized for general consumption, so its really just a lengthy numbers game of trying out guitars until you find something you like but never truly love.

    Thank you, I have a 314ce, I replaced the strings with a pack of Elixr nanowebs that I have had for a decade. Sounds good but not perfect,. Picked up some EJ16's yesterday and am going to swap them out, I will also get some XS and try them. From your video i think Taylor might have made the right decision changing string brands.

  • @JoeParkerPoe
    @JoeParkerPoe 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Been using Elixirs forever since I don't like to change my strings that often, but always open to new options. They sounded best with the strummed open chords (lots of harmonics/overtones which I like), but sounded deader than the 80/20s in the picking example. I'll continue to experiment, but think I'll go with the 80/20s next. Thanks for doing the work so I don't have to restring my guitar 3x times haha.

    I like also everything about Furch in Comparison with Taylor 724ce, which I swapped to Furch and my old Yamaha FG800. Everything, except "I dont understand why it's harder to play". I lowered the action, I put the same strings on both guitars. But still can not get it why I play more clear and easier on Yamaha, than my Furch Red Deluxe. Today going to visit a music store and test some Taylors again after 6+ months of experience. But I also remember that Taylor was not so hard to play, even when I had much weaker fingers. The only one mentionable difference is that the Neck overall (not the size like 43/44.5/45mm) is bigger on Furch. I've heard that many people love that size and soft V shape, but maybe it just doesnt fit my hands... Unfortunatelly time didnt help to me. Otherwise sound, look, feel - I like everything more than on any existing Taylor ^^
