Welcome to That Lovell-Boland Life.
We are Sam and Rhianne, a British couple living in Singapore.
We moved to the Lion City back in 2017, just a month after we got married back in the UK.
Singapore has been our home for nearly five years, and we've finally taken the plunge into the world of TH-cam to showcase the things we love about this place that we call home!

Hello saim and rhany
My anxiety just peaked 😂
First
We are Singaporean and we are proud to be Singaporean.
There is a need for lots of trees. You see sunshine, trees, you feel happy and fresh or else this country will be a concrete jungle.
There has to be a ban on chewing gum so Singapore can be clean.
Like that huh, what to do......
How long have you guys been in SG? You have caught the gist of singlish phrases!
Hey Matthew. Nearly 6 years now and before we were in Malaysia for 2 years.
Walao eh...said like a pro! I am impressed!
I agree with u eh! Coincidence hor?
Ok. @0:27 there was mention that Singapore's food will not be as good as Malaysia's. I now expect that your farewell video will be a comparison of Malaysia's food and how Singapore's food is NOT AS GOOD or a poor copy of the Malaysia's Original Recipe. So that we can hate you when you leave! But seriously, as a Singaporean, I do concede that Malaysia's food is probably on the whole better than Singapore's. In part because the cooks in Malaysia probably has access to better, fresher, ingredients, may even have grown or raised their own ingredients, and have lots of time and dedication to prepare their food from scratch, pounding and blending their spices, pastes, marinades and rubs by hand. Singapore cooks are constrained by the freshness of the ingredient we import (all of it!), time, and opportunity costs (we've got better things to do than to blend all the ingredients from scratch by hand!). I got this epiphany when I watched CNA's episode on Nasi Lemak: th-cam.com/video/ZqXDGcclea8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UM_2aCDwMZF5I7EK&t=954 Malaysia's Nasi Lemak (for example) is more authentic, and made with love and effort. Singapore's Nasi Lemak has evolved away from the Original to incorporate convenience and availability. Anyway, if I elaborate more, I will appear even more defensive. So I will leave it at that, and look forward to your honest and hard-hitting comparison of Malaysian Food and Singapore Food. I am quite sure, Tar and Feathers will await you at the end of your video! 🙂
You make many fair points but we are also allowed to enjoy living in Singapore but like the food in Malaysia….otherwise there would only be Singaporean restaurants in this country. I liked living in England but I didn’t particularly enjoy the food. Are we not allowed to nit pick because we are foreigners? That’s an honest question because if so that is a sign of a really poor society. I have many Singaporean friends and we agree and disagree on lots of things, and just because we prefer Malaysian food doesn’t mean we deserve to be hated and ‘tarred and feathered’ for having an opinion.
@@ThatLovellBolandLife Yes, for as long as you like living here, you will need to keep diplomatically silent! You asked, "Are we not allowed to nit pick because we are foreigners?" and "that is a sign of a really poor society". Yes, that will be part two of your "farewell video" because, as Lee Kuan Yew has observed, "Singaporeans are champion grumblers". We grumble and complaint about EVERYTHING! Even tho (you may notice) we really have very little to complain and grumble about. But more importantly, it is (a right) for Singaporeans to complain about (at least to other Singaporeans). Foreigners complaining about things that are wrong about Singapore, will be told (quite immaturely), that if they don't like it, they can leave. The maturity of Singaporeans is the topic for another video, perhaps? Let me know when you making that video, so I can heat up the tar and pluck the chickens!🙂 In all seriousness, I am well aware of our faults (or as much of it as I am aware). So in another of your videos you note the gracelessness of Singaporeans rushing into the MRT without letting passengers disembark first (i think it was your Singlish words video, on "kiasu"). That's something that should be improved. Overall, our transformation from Third World to First is such a short time means that some Third World habits survived the "journey"... like not flushing toilets (some of us grew up with night soil bucket toilets - no flushing required!). Or peeing in any secluded corner (like lifts). Hence the need for such laws and law enforcement (though to be fair, it is a less frequent occurrence now). In other words, some of the rough edges of Singaporeans are symptoms of being Nouveau Riche... Or "Nouveau Prime Monde"? (pardon my poor excuse for French). I watch videos like yours because I want to see how foreigners see us. Mostly, they have nice things to say. Sometimes they say not so nice things but politely (because they are not Nouveau Riche). And they have class. But some are less... classy. Which is fine if their criticism is justified. Ok - enough defensiveness. In another video (not yours), a foreigner who has been here for many years, said that Singapore has spoiled her. She cannot live anywhere else now. Because Singapore JUST WORKS! Where she was from (Eastern Europe), she was used to things not working unless palms were greased, and one needed to know how to "work" the system so that you can get what you want from govt and bureaucracy. Not so in Singapore. Everything just works as it should. But she's from Eastern Europe. Has Singapore spoiled you? Or, what adjustments do you think you will need to make when you return to England? If any? The video: singapore2b.blogspot.com/2023/04/rules-set-you-free.html

We changed our dates for Jeonju when we were in Seoul, so all the Western beds were booked up. Great experience nonetheless, but also painful hah
