THE OLD FARTS GARAGE.

เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 8 ก.ค. 2013
Just an Old Retired Fart in the California Central Valley Tinkering in the Garage and doing it Old School. Because back in our day we tried to fix things first . whether it's simple Woodworking, basic Welding, Autobody & Paint, Photography, Fishing, Guns & Reloading, Army Talk, Gardening, or just whatever BS is on my mind, I'm just here enjoying my retirement.
1963 C10 RESTORATION: Quick 63 Update
This video is just a quick update on were I am on the 63 door repair, we've been having a heatwave here lately so I'm having to be careful on how much time I spend outside without getting some heat stroke. but still plugging at it.

So after my last Makeshift Paint Booth was destroyed by our winter storms I decided to look for a "HOPEFULLY" sturdier and longer one, cause after I mounted the bed back on there was no room in the front and back to move around in, so I couldn't finish my paint job. but now I have a new one and I'm ready to finish the job.

When I clean the hardware for my restorations, I let the vinegar boil with the hardware. It just cleans them a little quicker when you're short on time. Otherwise I also let them soak for a while. Your truck is looking really good. Can't wait to see you driving it!
Thank You I appreciate it. That’s a good idea too, I’ll have to try that just to do it, it just might change my way of doing things 😁👍🏽.
Good work on the doors 👍, Looking forward to seeing them in paint👍👍
Thank you my Friend , I'm planning on next week to finally Primer,& Paint , and even possibly mount the doors. it' just floors me when I look back three years ago when i started , how far I've come and how much closer I am to finishing.
@@theoldfartsgarage you're doing a great job as well.
Cut ya off an old butter knife, use it as a shaping tool.... old indian trick for old farts.
@@eugenegress5896 cool , I’ve never seen that, I’ll have to look it up. Thanks
Have you ever added a extra 20 gallon tank to a 20 gallon compressor?
No I haven't sorry. I have a 80 gal. for my air supply.
Thank you!! ☺️
You’re welcome 😊
Looking good! 👍🏼
Thank You my Angel 😇
R.I.P BOTH.
Good job sir
Как жалко Brandon Lee . Какой сильный фильм CROW .Спите спокойно ребята. Вы навсегда в наших сердцах
Yes Awesome Movie.
I was RREALLY interested in your thoughts on this gun. I ended up buying a Black Widow HVLP (with additional HTE 1.3 needle and tip extra), and am looking forward to painting my 2nd car. First one I used a Harbor Freight Spectrum, and it worked quite well. I'm a learning old fart. And just having a blast doing it. I'm restoring my 89 Toronado, which I FINALLY got the electronics in it repaired, which then meant a full on restoration. New subscriber!
Thank You @JohnnieBravo1 for your support and comment. I myself don’t have a Black Widow, so I honestly can’t say, I don’t have any Harbor Freight spray guns but from what I’ve seen as in reviews from other painter who do use it , it seems to be a great gun for being a Harbor Freight product. I have multiple Harbor Freight products but I haven’t tried their Spray guns . I do like that gun company’s add the extra needles to their package. But For me personally it comes down to, I have two brands of guns that work just fine for my needs so I don’t feel the need for more. Now if I did paint for a living, I definitely would have bought multiple brands to tryout, but I’m just a Retired Old Fart keeping myself entertained while I live out the rest of my days. And I’m restoring my 63 by trial and error cause I’ve never done this. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more helpful and looking forward to seeing that Toronado.
@@theoldfartsgarage Thank you for your kind response! I'm also just an old retired fart, fooling around in my shop, keeping myself entertained (and learning). I keep telling everybody, it helps keep me from hanging out in bars and chasing loose wimmens, although there could be some advantage to doing that. Looking through your repertoire of videos, it appears we're into lots of the same things.... old cars, trucks, motorcycles, pressure washers, mowers, etc. Gotta keep that Grim Reaper headed the other way long as we can!
HAHAHA! yes sir definitely keeps me out of trouble. see we grew up in a time when we actually used our common sense to build or fix things . there's just no joy in sitting in front of the TV all day just wasting time . I'd rather sit in front of my workbench tearing something apart or making something functional. AH Life Is Good.
Great job man, it's coming along nicely 👍👍
Thank You buddy.
Looks good in primer!!! Add some pinstriping would be cool
Yes it did, Thank You, I wonder if I would’ve just cleared over the primer. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Alright Fernando! I’ve painted thousands of cars since ‘77, but I saved up most of my runs for these last few years😂😂
😂🤣thank you sir,
Progress!
💯🔥
Looks AMAZING! 😉😊
Fernando, I work with resins and other chemicals for repairing and restoring pieces of furniture. Any hoo, sometimes when I have to mix certain chemicals or resins, I have to let them sit for a few minutes prior to using. This lets the bubbles come up to the top and lets the mixture thicken slightly to minimize running. Maybe that would help?
Hhmmmm, that’s a good point , I’ll have to try that next time, Thank You.
Go for it! There are many things i did not do before & that is the way to get things done. Good luck!
Thank You for the encouragement.
Its crazy isn't it, those darn plastic coverings on products! My pet peeve. Good job on the details:-)
"Promo sm"
What is “Promo sm”?
Welp I might have to git me one. Somehow my offroad toyota tipped over. lol. I need to fix the a pillar and windshield fitment. Wish me luck. Nice work by the way.
It’s definitely the go to tool when you can’t pop it out from the backside because of double body skins. I hope it works out for you as good as it did for me.
Genius idea!
Subbed from the group text with Mr Bebee. I have a 2 car garage tent canopy thing i was going use for a paint booth but have been too lazy to set it up and also im concerned my neighbors wouldnt be happy with the strong smell of primer and clear
I live in a tight neighborhood and as long as you have a good filtered exhaust fan, they aren't really going to smell anything. I Use a 48" Dewalt round fan and I ordered paintbooth quality fiberglass filters and I've had no problems. I've added the link if you want to look into them . I double them up two on the back of the fan and two on the front of the fan, just for extra measures because I also had that same concern about the smell and I've had no problems what so ever. I hope this was helpful for you. Thank You again and good luck a.co/d/5g9FuJZ
Fernando, I really enjoy watching your videos! You show and tell it like it is with the bad and good! Looking forward to your next video! Hope your channel grows!
Thank You Phil, really appreciate it.
I Love factory smoke's from Drew Estates. A smooth tasty cigar for the cheap price
Exactly 👍🏽 these are my during the day cigars and on weekends I splurge 🤣
I just got this gun and sprayed a hood and a bedside (clear coat) Used my cheaper R 500 for base. Really enjoy this gun. Got a real nice finish with 3 coats on the hood. Someone else commented about having 5 of the R500 type guns and none of them sprayed well??? I don't get that at all. Might not be the gun.... Ole Bondo Billy has used them for 20 years for everything! Show winning classic cars. So it ain't the gun, its the hand holding the gun.
Thank You for your comment, I glad to to hear the gun work great for you, when I sprayed my Single Stage, I was in awe, cause that was my first hand at spraying and it worked great for me also. Yeah I like watching Billy’s videos , sad to hear he’s loosing his eye site.
What psi did you spray at? The instructions state 40 psi but everyone i watch recommends 25 or less
@@BrandonCartwright04 you can get away with lower pressure for basecoat. Clear 30 psi. Single stage I would go even higher to minimize orange peel.
@BrandonCartwright04 I set my psi at 30 and it did just fine.
Be careful with getting that flame on the magnets. If you heat a magnet up too much, it will lose its magnetic properties
Yes, thank you for that advice, since then I’ve purchased an adjustable nozzle and retired that old school nozzle.
First time watching your channel, I have a’66 Chevy step side and hey I like a little gardening too lol
Cool !, Thanks @peterroper7471 really appreciate it. Yeah it’s taking me a while to get my truck done but I’m plugging along . I to enjoy gardening and landscaping. I’m a stickler for a well groomed yard😂🤣

Thanks Brother 🤘🏽🤘🏽. Cool name😂🤣😂 hey anything is possible 🤣😂
What size air compressor did you use? Very good job!! Looks good!
Congratulations! 🎉
Congratulations!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Congrats!
I’m sooo glad that’s fixed for you now! Knowing your speed when you drive is very helpful. 😂
Good to see you're back at it. I know I definitely lack motivation when the weather is bad
Yeah , that’s the unfortunate of winter to me also , just can’t motivated when it’s cold and raining outside 😬 but it’s spring now and I’m back for more. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Fernando Learning a lot from your vides. Thank you. I have a 63 stepside C10 pickup and having a problem finding Headlamp Backing Plates. Do you anyone or any place where I can locate a set. Thanking you in advance
Thank You Bill, really appreciate that. There’s a guy on Facebook, R&D Truck Parts RaDTruckParts@gmail.com I’ve done business with them and had good experience. Good Luck.
How was the overspray?
Honestly by my experience I can say that it really wasn’t bad at all. Now granted This is my very first paint job I’ve ever done. But with that for it being my first paint job, because of the simplicity of using the gun , and how good my paint job came out, it has boosted my confidence in knowing that I can do this.
@theoldfartsgarage heck yeah! I think I'm going to buy one
I really hope it works for you as good as it did for me. 👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you! I was lost when it came to the wheels! Lol. No instructions were provided and their website doesn't offer any help either.
I’m glad to hear you were able to make it work. I’m sorry about the audio, I don’t know what happened.
Great job looking forward to seeing it done I bought I
Thank you. And I hope your paint gun works as well for you as it did for me. 👍🏽👍🏽
Thought about doing my hood and sail panels red.on the Chevy bow tie. 😂Maybe one day
Very nice 👌 It takes a while to bring this emblems back to life ❤ Looking great 👍 I got three of the windshield chrome. Missing upper drivers side piece. If anyone has it three don't work 🤷Wide Style like mine.
Thanks, yes it does take some patience, but for its therapeutic actually 😊
Looks like there is room left for another stone. Is this true? Any sense of who it's reserved for?
Honestly I don’t know, I was just visiting my daughter and she invited us to go see his grave site. And I decided to just video tape it. Sorry.
Oh no, what a shame. Hopefully the truck wasn't damaged.
Just a small paint chip on top of the cab where the frame of the canopy broke and hit the truck but the rest is ok.
Looks great! I got one of those guns, but haven't been able to test since it got chilly where I live. Can't wait 'til it warms up a little bit. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, yeah it is a great beginner gun , and for never painting before, I was able to spray my truck and feel like a pro. I’m also anxious to get back to painting, but like you, just too cold. I hope it works for you like it did for me, good luck. Come on Spring 🤣
