A talk by the University of Buffalo Scholar in Residence Tricia Matthew, based on her research trip to seven cities in the United Kingdom, this talk focuses on abolition, Josiah Wedgwood, and women as consumers. When we pay attention to the ways that the three intersect, we can better understand Regency-era culture and the rituals it taught women to follow as they participated more fully in pub...

I'm trying to learn this dance, so thank you for posting such a beautifully danced version.
¥~
When I play it we actually play it as the round it was intended to be. The number 2 and 3 musicians simply play very softly so the dancers don't get confused. We all go out when the caller signals. (This is Steven Epstein replying under from my other TH-cam channel, BTW, my main one, which was created before TH-cam decided your channels had to be in your own name if you were not a "premium" user.)
In the tradition of naming bands after dances, I've always wanted to name a band Tythe Pig, but for some reason, my requests have been ignored.🤔
That's an excellent name for a band. Too bad nobody shares our opinion.
Interesting video. It is heartbreaking to think of how decimated the English peasants were after the destruction and looting of the monasteries by Henry Vlll. Their whole way of life was upturned. The monasteries not only provided jobs and religion, but education, agricultural skills, health care, social and pastoral care. Their whole Catholic cultural life ended. It be one thing if the monks were replaced with Anglican monks but the social infrastructure collapsed. Interestingly, the 19th Century Anglicans started to form their own nuns. Today - the Anglican Church reconsecrated the Blessed Mother back to England. Walsingham is as an important Marian shrine again.
what is the minimum number of people this dance could work with? i want to use this choreography for a show im choreographing but our cast is limited :/
I'd say four people/two pairs
To je ale špatně, tanečník má mít tanečnici vždy po pravé straně !
But Siege of Limerick was not a dance of the Regency Era, because the Playford-Dances were quickly forgotten after the last Edition (1728). 200 years later would these dances rediscovered by Cecil Sharp. But Siege of Limerick (1695) is a nice duple minor-dance!
We need more of this. Thank you.
That's a very nice arrangement of the tune.
Bellísimo!!!!
Nice! Good to know the greatest music by Purcell is celebrated! I wonder if this event is an annual one?
Thanks for posting, great dancing! 7:30 is when the dance starts with music.
I see J. Christopher & Sharon O. Cassidy in this video. Please give them my best. Jonathan Cassidy
Very informative, thanks a lot!!
Thank you for such clean and clear calling. We have just started a brand new English Country Dance in Ajijic, Mexico. Every dancer was a total beginner! The caller's were neophytes. I, Catherine Luria had taken a few calling workshops, but never had the opportunity to practice. I developed laryngitis five days before the dance, My husband, Eric was truly a rank beginner at calling, so, after HOURS of practicing, & with a little croaking from me we accomplished the 1st ever English Country Dance in AJIJIC,MEXICO! Thank you for this wonderfully helpful video.
We are so glad you like it. Please check out the other instructional videos. Congratulations on surviving your first dance!
Lisa Brown I'm wondering if someone could send me a list of the instructional videos you have made. Diane De Purdy was incredibly clear & is helping us with wording. Thank you - thank you! 😈😈
There are two other videos with teaching on my TH-cam channel, Hole in the Wall and Old Wife Behind the Fire.
Awesome!!
