I had a Basset who didn’t bark much until we moved. She was 4 and there were no kids in the old neighborhood, and now there were children playing, making noise, and the dog started barking then.

basset calling basset 911. "whats your emergency"? "my family left the house". "so what? "what if they don't come back?" OMG! OMG!

Can people other than the owner correct barking. The dog obeys the òwner but no one else

Had two bassets , fantastic dogs but they don’t like being left for more than four hours especially the first two years when they are destructive.

Our late hound loved his crate. We had the crate in our large walk-in closet, which kind of created a den/cave, and as soon as he was in the crate he pretty much went to sleep. We really only crated him at night, because otherwise he’d never really settle down and keep us awake. At the same time, we could leave the house for a couple of hours to run errands and he was content to doze on his favorite dog bed.

When mine was 2 months old I got A Bassett beagle mix and it turned out to be the perfect combo. They were together for almost 10 years.

I have two Basset hounds that are 2 months apart in age. They do extremely we together. If they are apart it’s very bad. But if they have each other in an enclosure the do very well. I watch them on ring cameras while I’m at work and as long as they are together they do quite well.

I think for the argument to hold up that it’s the owners fault. What do we have prisons for? Is it the family’s fault? If that were true, we’d have to put the whole family in prison As far as a dog behaving differently for a trainer, manipulators are great at being different with different people

We had a Basset when I was a teen. He was a Basset's Basset in many ways--as goofy as the breed is considered by many, but as loyal and friendly and hard-headed and entertaining, as well. I now have two Bassets, four months apart in age, and they've been buddies since they first saw each other. They are an enthusiastic greeting party when ANYONE comes to the house, they love to meet other dogs (and people), and have been wonderful pets.

Watched this video because I am interested in the breed and want to gain an understanding on their behaviour. Mostly all been positive with their general demeanour etc but got wind they can be destructive. You have mentioned exercise and mental stimulation to keep them happy/ contented. I think I understand the crate training/ kong aspect, but when out and about what can we offer for further mental stimulation besides stopping at every gateway/ corner/ lamppost to sniff at the local ‘Doggy Gazette’ ? If we do get a new dog, even if it’s not a basset, we would like to do things right from the offset to hopefully 🤞 fingers crossed not really have any longterm issues like this. (I also understand a dog is a dog, and they will chew at something at some point when growing up)

I've got a beagle/basset hound mix that doesn't make a sound in the house. But take him on a walk, he sounds off as soon as he gets a rabbit scent. And there are rabbits all over the neighborhood.

I am so lucky my basset does fine alone. I left her at home alone for a little longer each time and now she is fine for even almost all day long sometimes. I am the one that gets seperation anxiety!

I have 2.. one is 3 and he is perfectly ok with being left alone and taking a nap for a couple of hours. But my other one is one and can get destructive at times when my wife and I are gone too long.

Got my boy hank literally days before the covid pandemic shut everything down and he’s basically my son. He’s a stubborn one but he’s a handsome, sweet boy. I got a second basset last year and he’s a good boy too.. I’m trying to convince my wife about getting a 3rd but we’ll see hehe

I have 2 seven month old basset hounds from the same litter. They are strangely silent. Until yesterday, I have never heard Juniper bark and only let out one howl in the 5 months I have had them. My Raven only barks rarely and it is only because Juniper has something she wants. My last two, Peanut and Oreo had really big mouths, especially Oreo and would be quite vocal when they wanted something. My Petunia would howl when she wanted me to play with her and my Rappunzel barked, not howled, but she wasn’t very vocal and if she barked, somebody was up to no good. She took care of a guy who tried to break into our car one night quite well. He didn’t get into the car and he left skin and blood in our back yard. We just laughed at him as she was taking care of the situation. Rappunzel was the only one of my six bassets that was a watchdog. She was a good girl. They were all good girls.

Generic advice for an average dog is not going to cut it for Bassets. They don't do crates. They weigh too much, you'd have a broken back slinging a crate with a 65 lb. Basset in it. When you leave a Basset alone, they will do three or four things, eat or drink, sleep and crap.

Can't leave my two unless crated. They find things to get in trouble. Characters!

I had a basset and black lab team who loved to roam during the day but always found their way home(they knew where their food /when it was ready ) great team even knew the neighbor would feed them if they stopped by.

My basset hounds are fine when I go to work

I adopted my Bassey Hound when he was 11 months old. He's nine now. A few years ago he was diagnosed with Diabetes Incipidus. Before that.. age two.. environmental and food allergies. They originally paid about $1400 for him here in the US. Pretty sure I got my boy because he grew up from being a cute baby Basset to being a much, much bigger dog! I now raw feed him. Seven years straight now. I do part DIY, part bought budget wise. Do NOT apply flea and tick! Use Diatomaceous Earth. Internally.. in the food... one tablespoon per 80 pounds daily. On coat... use a mask yourself... outside pat down.. good to go. Titer test! My Basset has a mansion sized crate. I make him very natural cookies. You can always do "tacking" to prevent Bloat.

When I got my basset as a puppy, he experienced severe separation anxiety; I ended up just bringing him to work with me!

Looking to get a Basset Hound Beagle mix to train to be my EMS PTSD Service Dog and Medical Alert. She was a rescue from bad breeder, she is nervous around people, but gets along with cats and dogs. She is around one and I know it may take longer because the breed is stubborn. I was told she'd make a good EMS PTSD and especially Medical Alert dog if she gets over fear of people and is given right training willing to invest the time and energy and build confidence. My parents say oh this breed won't do they are to stubborn and blah, blah blah..... I was a Service Dog can be if put in the time, energy and training to be a potential Service Dog. The Rescue thinks because of my training I do with my cats and dog and my dogs task training would give the Basset Hound Beagle mix the right influence and someone who knows basic training abilities, while the foster person said not sure with her nervous around people. What's your thoughts and opinions
