The plan is to renovate a 1991 Fleetwood Southwind and bring it back to it former glory and into the 21st Century. I want to do all this on a budget of $5000 or less. Hopefully, when I am done, I will have a nice, dependable Motorhome that will give years of fun seeing some of the sights around the country. I want to prove, if you are willing to some of the work, you can have a nice Class A motorhome and not have to spend $50,000 or more to do it. Please subscribe and follow along as the transformation takes place.

Yes ,it does sound like a fuel delivery problem . As a mechanic ,I,d start by flushing the fuel lines for corruption . Blow from the motor back to a disconnected line near the tank ,with a sock over the end of the line tp allow fuel out and retaining any debris .
Cool project, have one of these and they are really fun to ride casually
Just got my Fleetwood Been a learning curve living out of an RV full time, Vlogs to come Im learning a lot from your channel btw! Keep the good stuff coming ❤️
😮 wow. You can actually put a washer and dryer in this RV?
Beautiful Rig Sir. I love the look
N0spw I moved to Yuma in 2017 then I left in 2019 came back in 2022 I have a ft 991a I have not used it very much
Hi Dennis. I am in the phase of renovating my 1991 Fleetwood the same one U had like 6 years ago. Can U guide me to any place where I can find/buy this RVs break pads anywhere in the US as I could not find anything here in Canada. I would much appreciate yr guidance, please. Thanks, Sam
If yours is the same as mine, then you get parts for a Chevy P-30 chassis. Good Luck
OK Noted Thanks
Do U have some schematic drawing of the electrical wiring please
Sorry, I do not have a schematic.
OK Thanks for updating
Hey denis! I know it has been a while but we can’t find out at all how to move the steering wheel to move the drivers seat chair!
You can wore your ac up with a soft starter so when it kicks on it doesn't slam your batteries. Look up RV camper ac soft start
You should make a play list for all of the rv renovation videos. So they play one after another all in order. I plan on watching them all right now but I keep having to tell TH-cam what to play next other wise it starts playing hard on pill infomercials.
Hi Dennis, Can U please guide me what type, brand, model of Break Pads do I need for my 1991 Fleetwood Southwind RV please. Thanks.
Your RV is on a P-30 Chevy chassis. Any parts store can give you the options for pads.
@@dennislawrence9826 OK noted. By P-30 does it mean it s a 30" RV
@@samboldcanada That is the designation by Chevy. Nothing to do with the size of the RV.
@@dennislawrence9826 OK Noted thanks
I have this exact model, can U help me with this unit please to setup and understand everything it has
Hello Sam, glad to help anyway I can to answer your questions.
@@dennislawrence9826 I just got the same RV, will make a set of questions and will share with U for guidance please if U can share yr contact no. or email it will be very easy to contact please. Thanks Sam Toronoto Canada
We are watching to learn..don't fast forward..
sweet clean setup I like it. I. wouldnt change a thing. Great job and thanks for sharing.
I got a 1983 Nighthawk, it runs but it needs some TLC
I just bought the same RV last week. Been binge watching the series. Your videos I can tell will help me out a lot if I come across the same issues. My steps don’t work also. Haven’t had the time to look at yet, but that switch idea will definitely be considered if same issue. 👍👍
Glad you are enjoying the videos. As long as the motor is good, the switch works great. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
@@dennislawrence9826 We also just purchased this same model of RV and are looking to do a major remodel of it. I will definitely be using your videos as reference. I'd love to pick your brain if we come across something we're not sure about. Would this be ok?
also, any thoughts on where I can get my hands on the electrical wiring diagram for this model?
@@terribriskey2973 I will be glad go help if I can. Good luck on the project.
@@terribriskey2973 I was never able to locate that either.
Me and my grandfather are restoring one right now needs new gas tank and probably need to take the engine apart
have you considered using finger raceway for distributing your wire where you wanted them and to keep the back nice and cllean
these are great videos. I wish I could pick your brain. I just picked up in 1991 Fleetwood Southwind, here in North Phoenix.
With the stalls, I'd suspect the carbeurator needs work. Probably needs a rebuild on the carb.
Brian, if it had a carb I would address that, but it is fuel injected.
@@dennislawrence9826 I wasn't sure as it is older. Did your mechanic ever figure it out?
@@brianvandy4002 nope, never did. One day it just went away and ran great. Seems ok now.

Thanks Dennis watched whole series!! Very helpful !!! Love to see all you have done now !! Make more videos !!
Hey Dennis I have the same exact motorhome and could use your help. My question is that the fuse box under the dash which fuse goes where and what app goes where?
How much were the airbags?
I want to see the exterior and interior but you block everything. It's a thumbs down for me.
I’m glad I’m not the only one looking for older class A’s.
That is the 19" deep box correct?
Yep, it is the standard size depth. It has been working great.
So far I am enthralled I just purchased one of these motorhomes I'm planning on living in it full-time in a Park this is going to be an invaluable resource to me as I start on my journey
Chad, glad you found the videos useful. Merry Christmas.
Amy updates?
How many miles on it
Right at 60,000. Just getting broken in.
@@dennislawrence9826 thinking about buying one at 68 thousand miles. Just looked at it yesterday. Older couple had it for 16 years. It's an 1989 Southwind 27 foot. So watching all your videos are on my agenda 🙂
Maybe putting some of those chokes on the radio wire will quiet the noise of that country music?
Great suggestion, thanks. I wonder if they have some specifically for Country Music?
@@dennislawrence9826 They do, it's called the "OFF" switch.
😂
Denis I have basically the same motor home, bought it for $500 think you can answer some questions?
Pat, I will do my best.

I have a no power problem to my fuel pump . if you can will you post a pic of the fuse panel diagram so i can see where the relay is for it .and others the cover on my 1990 Southwind is missing thanks again for the information.
hello Kevin, I will be glad to take some pictures of what I have. Did you take off the large panel under the hood, for the main fuse box? See video update 25 or 12. They are all labeled under the panel or on the bus bar to the right side. A lot of my electrical problems were solved just by replacing a lot of fuses in this box.
@@dennislawrence9826 It is missing
Do you by chance know the part number for the fuel pump thanks
Sorry, I do not. What I had to do was measure the depth of the tank to then get one that was the right length. Since you will have the correct one when you take it out, it should be simple to have the parts store get the correct length. The one the mechanic had put in was about 3-4 inches too short. It would only work if you had half a tank of gas or more. I am sure you will have no problem getting the correct length. Good luck.
What was the fabrication? What was the pump that you used? I'm buying one of these right now with a bad fuel pump and I have no idea what fuel pump goes in it.
Hi Dennis, love what you did with your go box. You have inspired me to attempt to build my own go box. If it’s not to much to ask could you also email me your parts list at kf4raf@cox.net . I’m going to subscribe so I don’t miss any of your upcoming videos. Thanks in advance Phil-KF4RAF.
Denis, great video, wonder if those two light bars are 12v ? what brand is that panel?.. cheerz

im in 2021 getting into stuff like this and thinking of restoring a beat up one. any advice?
Try to start with a good bike to work with. Then be patient and do one thing at a time...and do it well. Good luck and let us know how you do.
Sound ??
Not sure what you are asking? The video has audio.
I like to see the mess others get into, then I don't feel so bad about mine. PS 4 years later I will check out your redone MH.
🤣
Going to look at a similar unit on Wednesday. Supposedly, 23K original miles and in perfect condition. Asking 10K, if all is true what would you pay?
Hello David. The magic word you use is "Perfect" condition. This may well be the case, but age and time take a toll on these things. Critters get into places you think are impossible, fabric gets brittle from sun and exposure, foam breaks down, rust and crud build up, tires with perfect tread that are over 7-8 years old are not safe to drive...just to mention a few. However this is not to say it is not in great condition. If it has no delamination on the sides, tires are fairly new, engine starts and runs well, drives good, and everything works as it should, this includes the generator, then $10k may not be too far off of a fair price. I would always offer a couple thousand less to start the negotiation. You can always come up on the offer but it is much more difficult to come down once an offer has been made. I put a lot of hours to bring my RV back to life...your time is worth something. Good luck and let us know how this turns out.
@@dennislawrence9826 Dennis, thank you for the thoughtful reply. When we went to see it, it was in excellent condition... for the year. It started well and had tires only 2 years old. The owners hadn't used it in 5 years but still had it serviced annually. Everything worked including the generator. Some interior panels had come down and had been stapled back into place. The unit had been kept under cover so interior sun damage was minimal. The exterior had a few minor scrapes and dents but nothing I could not easily fix myself. All of that said though, we passed on the unit. The main reason to buy it was for a trip out west from upstate NY. Secondarily, we wanted it for local excursions. The reason we passed on it is that the lack of time to buy and drive it for an extended period to shake it out. We were concerned that it would break down going through the mountains.
Learning something new every day ☺️
Thanks for the comment. This was just a little fun video. Amazing how many people actually thought it was for real.
Very nice, I love the portability! My forever home has no grid power so I have to plan on everything being gridless. Thanks for the nice video!
Hello Brad, thanks for the nice comment. Glad you like it.
Dennis! These videos have been super helpful and awesome as I am looking to get myself an '82 Honda 450 Nighthawk as a first bike. Thank you for posting these in detail! How's it holding up these days? I know these videos are from a few years ago. It's a rad bike! Awesome you got it for free :) Can't wait to see the full restoration and see it ride!

What happens if you restore an owner of vin comes back to get it? I fixed an abandoned old triumph car and notified owner on last vin an he wanted it back so I could not register it...
Great question, I applied for an abandoned title through Motor Vehicle. The last registered was sent a notification at the last known address. It took about a month, now I have a clear title. So, no worries.
