HO Switching Layout Update #20. Tank Car Upgrades and More
มุมมอง 1.6K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
Getting my fleet of chemical tank cars upgraded with new wheels and couplers. I'm planning to do some more switching operations very soon. Also had a big Walthers order come in containing vehicles and more rolling stock. You can find some great deals looking into their sale items.

Signal bridge update! Started some work on my main signal bridge, just a quick overview of the design and electronics that will be driving it.
Layout Update #19 - Finally some Trees
มุมมอง 1.3K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
More HO layout progress, I made some of my Scenic Express Supertrees which I am very pleased with. They were really easy to make as well. I built a bunch more fence, more building planning, and about to start working on a signal bridge.
Operations! SE Michigan Printing Industry Switching
มุมมอง 6K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
Switching some boxcars full of paper into Valassis printing. First attempt at filming a session like this, had some focus issues but went well overall.
Layout update #18. More Grass, Made Some Fence, and Working on Trees.
มุมมอง 1.4K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
Just another super quick update, little wins along the way.
Layout Update #17 - New Building and Rolling Stock
มุมมอง 2.9K8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Finally finished installing the tortoise switch machines and completed wiring. Next steps are backdrop and scenery, the fun stuff.
Layout Update #15 - Installing Tortoise Switch Machines and Control Electronics
มุมมอง 931ปีที่แล้ว
After a year of putting this off, I finally started installing my switch machines on the layout. I made some basic control panels for each switch to control and provide indication of the switch throw direction.
Installing a Tsunami2 DCC Sound Decoder in an Atlas MP15

Quick video on upgrading my Atlas silver series CSX MP15 with a Soundtraxx Tsunami2 decoder.
HO Layout Update #14 - Finally Running Trains Again
มุมมอง 1.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Really quick video showing progress on my HO switching layout. I have the front fascia up and throttles are mounted. Track wiring is done so I can finally run some trains again. The biggest change is the addition of a foldable staging section which allows me to both stage incoming trains and actually be able to access the siding and industries from the main.
Michigan Model Railroading - Rolling Stock Update
มุมมอง 4452 ปีที่แล้ว
Taking a quick look at some of the recently acquired box cars for the layout. The older Athearn blue box and Roundhouse cars, while much less detailed than the new premium detailed brands still look pretty good. The older E&C Shops and Walthers cars are some of my favorites for the money.
Michigan Model Railroading - HO Locomotive Roster Update

Quick overview of my locomotive roster. I cover the locomotives that I have converted to DCC and discuss the future locomotives I plan to convert. After the EMD MP15DC, let me know what I should do next!
HO Model Railroad CTC Panel
มุมมอง 4522 ปีที่แล้ว
Quick look at an old CTC panel I made for an HO layouts signal control. I have no use for this panel today but I was happy with how it turned out at the time.
HO Layout Update #13 - Progress
มุมมอง 1.7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Another quick update of my HO switching layout. Most ground cover is done including ballast and static grass. I'm working on more scenery and getting ready to install all of the switch machines.

I like the way you have set up your industries gives you plenty of operation in a small space, your scenery is not over powering good balance.
Beautiful switching layout! Looks really nice and scale. That EMD sounds so, so good, and it looks to have the right amount of momentum, as it looks so accurate in all it's movements. I'm looking to do something very similar with a layout. Thanks for posting the vid!
I love the switching yard. Collected quite a bit of HO and ready to start. If you dont mind I am going to copy this yard and add on later. Thanks for the vid.
Where is your buffer car to protect your trading crew from the tank cars
Great video. I have just discovered your channel so will be taking a look at your other videos
Love it
Great switching layout and ops ! Love it ! But I get a little seasick with that camera.
Very nice instructional video. What happened to the video "Layout Update #4?" I would love to see your techniques since the end product looks great in #5.
That is a great looking layout, and I like your operation/video style. Thanks for sharing!
Lots of insights in this video for me as I plan the first section of my small HO shelf switching layout. Question: What are the dimensions of your layout? Thanks...
I like what you are doing with your HO switching layout, and as I'm planning my own small industrial switching layout, you've opened the possibility for me displaying a passenger train that I don't have any room to run either. Thank-you...
Beautiful
I’ve been out of the hobby for 30plus years, hard to believe cars are $30 plus dollars for individual rolling stock! N scale are same price point as O Scale? A lot of plastic and details for the same car? I’m going to have a fortune tied up in trying to make N Scale Unit Trains of 20 plus cars……
This is a pleasure to watch. Thanks for giving us this.
Very impressive. (I'd best stick with dark territory.)
Your narrative was accelerated in this video; which made understanding much more difficult. But, I enjoyed the update anyway. Love the layout. Thanks much.
You are a skilled, clever man. Thank you for the video.
You are good at model railroading; I'm really enjoying your videos (even though some are a couple years old). I'm getting some great ideas from watching. And like you, I love the Family Lines and Seaboard System paint schemes. Thanks.
Great video! I reside in SE MI
Those mounts you designed I like that idea to hold the circuit boards and speakers in Athearn locomotive's from the blue boxes it's worth the money n DCC n Sound technology is more fun to invest into ho locomotive's n I gauge, o scale, s scale, n g scale n the big scales that you can ride on your property with sound technology is a yes. I'm not a n or z scale fan those are to small n they don't last long
DCC n Sound technology is better everyday n it gets better when they update more DCC n Sound technology for Ho scale, o gauge o scale s scale n garden scale with sound technology n the big scales that you can ride on your own property with sound technology
Loved watching this switching. I have a switching layout myself here in the UK loosely based on the BN Yard at Fremont. Can I ask why you do not used magnets to uncouple your kadees?
I like DCC n Sound I've been looking for this technology for years i started with tyco Ho before i switched to Athearn Genesis n I'm an Ho scale person I'm a fan of o gauge,o scale s scale n garden scale trains with dcc and sound technology n the one's you can ride on your own property it's worth the investment n for fun.
Those proto 2000 locomotive's are worth converting to DCC n Sound technology I go for that everyday they're worth the investment n family entertainment n inviting guests at your home when they want to see them run with sound technology.
The blue box Athearn locomotive's are worth investing DCC n Sound technology n It's more fun for entertainment n keeps getting better everyday n keep it up
Will you share the 3d print file?
I love how the Boxcar at 8:55 derails then re-rails itself
Great delivery and shunt.
What great switching on a beautiful layout. The sound of that engine is superb and that Tsunami is amazingly programmed. Great show!
What ballast are you using? Looks fantastic!
May I ask if that small rail served building with the blue walls is a kit?
hello mmr !!! great videos !!! just watched your chemical plant video and would love to see the final project... any guess as to when it might be completed ? i am working on my 2nd plant on my pike and fully enjoyed your aerial shots and personal thoughts on how to build a model chemical plant !!! excellent work !!! being a retired industrial engineer, your ideas were very refreshing and made me realize that i was fortunate to work around many different plants, but then i forgot about just how plants are set up !!! thanks for setting me straight !!! ps... i went to the sabres/wings game the other night and the blue and gold put a real hurtin' on your wings !!! OUCH !!! here on our end of lake erie, we don't really have much hope for the sabres, but the bills are a different story !!! dad and i just love the big turn around for the lions, our 2nd favorite team of all time !!! great coach, too, but cannot go for it on EVERY 4th down !! we just love his aggression, though !!! we get detroit am radio here on our end of erie (wjr) and i have listened intently since my youth !!! go lions !!! blessings to you, mmr !!!
Lions fan since 1958. Im 76 yrs old now !!!! Had season tickets for 27 seasons!!!
excellent !!! mike lucci was/is one of my favorite linebackers of all time !!! @@alfrednawrocki8061
alfred... nazdrowie to you, my polish friend !!! i do not know how to exactly spell it so i will spell it as it sounds... zheemnah holetta here in western ny state !!!
Looks like you’re kind of messing up missed a couple cars on your switch and where is the horn and where is the bell got to keep the guys alert in the yard you don’t want to hit anybody
If you watch real-life switching, the horn is mostly only used for grade crossings, these days. There's no need to use it to announce ethat the train's about to start moving, because the conductor and engineer are usually in radio contact. The bell also isn't used a whole lot.
Very nice switch layout!
That looks like alot of fun!!!
Great switching layout!!!
Great session. I love that chemical facility. Curious what type of fencing that is or is it scratch built? Cheers
Have you considered an Arduino?
Great video, I like watching switching when I'm commuting on the train, so the longer the better!
You a great layout going there! Looking good!
👍👍👍I like the low cost idea.
👍👍👍👍Excellent
Great operations video.
Very neat indeed
This is freaking spiftacular man!! I love a good switching video
Thank you!
Very nice set up. I enjoy your videos! Building a new shelf layout myself. 👍
Under current DOT regulations, “Explosives A” no longer exist - these materials are now Division 1.1 or 1.2 (explosive) materials. During switching, cars so placarded must be separated from the engine by at least one non-placarded car.
To avoid penalties being assessed by the local FRA hazardous materials inspector, your hazmat tank cars need to display placards. Regarding switching and train placement regulations, suggest going on-line for US Hazardous Materials Instructions By Rail. It has charts showing requirements for handling hazmat cars during switching, and their placement in trains.
For the tank cars here in this video, the following placards are needed: Caustic soda: UN# 1824, Class 8 corrosive Sulfuric acid: UN# 1830, Class 8 corrosive Potassium hydroxide: UN# 1814, Class 8 corrosive The PROX 74128 car has no chemical listed on the side. You can make it anything you want. My road hauls benzene (UN# 1114, Class 3 flammable) in PROX 77000-series cars.
I have a few sheets of placard decals, thanks for the info!
I love your channel... Crazy question... Do you do decoder and sound conversions for potential customers? I absolutely love your work and am just curious if yhat is something you would do?
Appreciate the comment, unfortunately I barely have time to do the rest of my own locos, lol.
@mimodelrailroading I completely understand! Great work! Thank you for sharing the potential of the P2K locomotives. Because of your channel I purchased four P2K. Keep up the great work, I really enjoy your CRR FLS GP38-2.
Very nice, enjoyed that. I like what you have done here!👍
