Ambient #4: Spending International Drone Day...by Droning (Moog Mother-32, DFAM, & Subharmonicon)
I don't normally compose much with drones, but when I found out that it was International Drone Day, I had to wire up the Moogs and make something. After spending most of the last month mired in somebody else's big, complicated musical project, it was nice to make something big and simple just for myself (and you, of course).
Supporting the drone is Arturia's Lexicon reverb, a bit of tape delay on a send, and Logic Pro's new ChromaGlow, which has surprisingly great mastering presets.
I tore down the patch before making a complete diagram of it, but it's pretty simple:
1) The DFAM's VCO 1 is set to drone around a C2.
2) The Mother-32 is playing a randomized Cmaj9 arpeggio.
3) The Subharmonicon plays two Cmaj9 sequences at various rates.
4) the Mother-32's Assign is set to a random wave, which is sent to both the M-32's cutoff and the Subharmonicon's VCO 1 PWM. The M-32's VCF output is sent to the Sub's VCO 2 PWM.
5) The M-32's triangle LFO is sent to the DFAM's VCO2, which is hard-synced to VCO 1. Bring in VCO 2 in the mixer and adjust LFO speed to taste.
6) M-32 KB is sent to MIX, which brings in more noise as the note gets higher.
That's pretty much it! Thanks for listening.

This patch came together when I was trying out Lightbath's Matriarps patch (you can find it on Moog's website), so I won't get into too many patching details here.
