@@RensfordDeHaanArts I have been saying that for the longest time. It is time for us to start looking at our administrators and coaches. They’ve have gotten off quite easily while the players have taken the brunt of the attacks. There’s no reason why our players should be showing up at the highest levels still not knowing the basics.

True, but I cannot shake the fact that if the umpires had given Motie and DaSilva the benefit of the doubt we might very well have made that 40 runs. That being said, us being unable to get the final pair was always going to come back to haunt us, and of course lack of responsible batting in the 1st innings.

@@samuelbrat we’ve had our fair share of umpires call also, it goes both ways. That’s something that you just have to live with. Motie got out to the same shot, same bowler twice. Sometimes you have to play the situation, none of our batsmen did that. Kraigg, Louis, and Carty knew what the South Africans were trying to do and still fell for it. They didn’t make the SA bowlers change their plan. They’ve got to revisit how they approach their innings going forward.

@@Topofoffcricketpodcast I agree, the calls go both ways, but did they happen at a critical moment when WI was on the receiving side of good fortune? I am not saying the umpires are to blame for our loss but the umpire call situation should be revisited.

@@samuelbrat can’t dispute the benefits of the having squad players around, just not a fan of it in West Indies case. - John Public doesn’t know the current fitness status of King. CWI needs to do better with communicating fitness status of players. The same thing happened when Jayden Seales was injured in South Africa last year. - I would have loved to see Roston Chase back in the West Indies Squad. There’s no substitute for experience and you could see he was back in form during the T20 WC. Not sure what the discussions between the board and him have been like. He would have certainly brought value in all three facets in this series and going forward. - while Braithwaite needs to come good with his batting i don’t see the WI moving on from him if he doesn’t have a good series.

@@samuelbrat - Braithwaite has built up enough equity to survive longer than McKenzie and Tage. - I think they missed a trick when they left Joseph out. He was regaining his form in England with the ball and his batting is definitely a plus.

@@samuelbrat on the topic of Kirk McKenzie. It’s difficult to have a number batsman who can’t stick around for long periods. Even if West Indies wanted to invest in him, number was not the position. Ball is still doing quite a lot at that point and his technique is not good enough for that. Maybe number would have been a better choice. Having him at number three one wicket turns into two quite quickly.

@@Topofoffcricketpodcast Yea, was thinking the same about Louis; he has to work on his concentration at this level. He does the hard work but is getting out too much in the 20s and 30s. Glad Karty is getting a go...he has the skills and I'm looking forward to see how he goes.

@@AMB5 Bonner has been discarded because he has a problem with fast bowling. Doesn’t seem like he has worked it out and they’ve moved on from him.

@@Topofoffcricketpodcast if that's the case everyone in the squad has problem with it. That should not be the reason to drop him. It's not like others are playing exceptionally well to fast bowlers. They can at least select him for home matches

@@Professorclem my feeling is that they have relegated Imlach to purely a backup keeper which I don’t think is right. Doesn’t seem like they are willing to play him purely as a batsman which I think is a big mistake.

@@charlestaylor2687 this is definitely a tough watch. This has been the problem with West Indies since 2000. It’s the reason why we lost 118 test matches since then.

@@demonslayer5923 definitely not. Tage like McKenzie has serious technical flaws. It was only going to get worse on this tour. I am happy they took him out of the firing line. Same should happen for McKenzie in the test series that begins in August.

@@demonslayer5923 not sure Mayers is currently in WI plans going forward. Added to that I’m not sure test cricket is in his plans either.

@@AMB5 Blackwood is woefully out of form. Had he been batting well he would have been playing. Experience with no form is counterproductive.

@@AMB5 there’s no doubt he’s the best wicketkeeper batsman currently because no other keeper/batsman in the West Indies is putting pressure on him. We are hoping Imlach and Bowen-Tuckett turnout to be the two that will put pressure on him. Joshua is obviously very talented but he has not been consistent. That is the problem that I have with him. One century and five half centuries from 48 test innings does not speak to consistency given the potential of the player.

@@jeremygordon8730 know Ben Stokes/Mccollum that’s the total they will look to set. So far the group don’t seem to have a bowling plan. Too many boundary balls on both sides of the wicket. If we bat to potential we will win this game because we will have time.

@@demonslayer5923 the replacement of McKenzie should be definitely be considered. Holder bowled in the first test, hasn’t been near his best in this test. Once Motie is fit I see him coming back in. I don’t see Holder being dropped.

It's bad :( very very ineffective atleast alzari is taking wickets otherwise even after a brilliant performance from the batsmen west indies would have been in lot more trouble.

@@Topofoffcricketpodcast my comparison is the last World Cup. We are ranked 3rd in t20. I should say t20 team. The white ball odi team is horrible.

@@quincysthillaire I realized that’s what you were speaking about. Here’s the thing about that number 3 ranking. It gives a false sense of accomplishment. The SA squad that we beat in Jamaica was a weakened squad. Same with the England victory and against India. We haven’t won when it mattered most. We played poorly in the just concluded. Had PNG had a bit more experience they would’ve beaten us. Rovman Powell was grabbing at straws when he said we left the World Cup ranked number three. The number three ranking wasn’t the goal. Winning the World Cup was the goal. Sammy, Haynes and Powell repeatedly said that. You can be ranked number 1, if you don’t execute when you are supposed to, the ranking means nothing.

@@Topofoffcricketpodcast very true.. but it seems like Sammy is building something. He is very inexperienced as a coach and Powell can’t imagine make the team. Wins are wins.. so I think the team is heading in the right direction.

@@kevinali3531 there are many people who have called for the inclusion of Pollard back in the day. The problem with West Indian administrators/selectors is the lack of foresight. There are numerous examples of players who came to the fore through T20 and ended up playing test cricket and being successful at it. West Indies are the only ones who haven’t recognized that.

@@kevinali3531 there’s no reason why Brandon King, Pooran, Shai Hope shouldn’t be playing test cricket other than CWI figuring out how to make it work.

Hello TopofCricketpodcast. This is unfortunately very true. It is very depressing to see this talent not being exploited. I know that not much test cricket is played in the West Indies anymore. The last performance against England could have been much better with players in the squad like Brandon King, Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran, Keacy McCarty to name a few. We have a full talented squad for test cricket. I am seriously thinking of writing to the West Indies Cricket Board.

@@kevinali3531 I can’t fathom how Zachari macaskie made the squad to England and Keacy Carty didn’t. Macaskie didn’t play in Australia, came back and had a poor first class season and somehow got picked. Carty started slow but had a very good back half to end up with close to 500 runs. Brandon King should’ve been in the squad, so too Shai Hope. Everyday Hope posts videos of him working out or playing pickle ball.

@@AMB5 Andrew will get his chance soon enough. He was recently in Ireland with the West Academy squad. Scored a century out there. He’s 17 years old. I would like to see him play at least two more years of First Class cricket before being pushed into the West Indies side. He should play in all A team matches from here on out.

@@AMB5 unfortunately test teams don’t play many tour matches like they did 20 years ago. Back then you could take a young player on tour and play him in the tour matches even though he might not get into the test team. He gains valuable experience playing at a high level in different conditions. So when he’s ultimately selected to play a test match his preparation is good.

@@sevecheverria3592 unfortunately Kirk’s hand eye coordination has not been serving him well. He’s batting on hope rather than clarity. Check his mode of dismissals. How many times has he been caught behind the wicket.

@@Topofoffcricketpodcast yeah cos he gets nervous these days. He is a natural stroke maker. Remember that 99 for the youth team? Stroke-filled. Also those innings he played for this team in Australia? He seems a shadow of himself now. Everyone batting like their skipper.

@@sevecheverria3592 even in Australia he looked quite nervous which is the reason why he didn’t push on to get bigger scores. Kirk needs a bit more grooming at the first class level. He has time on his hands. He’s just not technically prepared at the moment.

@@sevecheverria3592 I don’t disagree with you. I am not sure what the conversation is between the selectors/coaches and players. They’re batting like they don’t have assurances from the coaches that they will be given time.

@@sevecheverria3592 most of the top teams play with a degree of freedom because they are not in similar predicament to West Indies. I want to believe this is down to the players and not the coaching staff/selectors.

@@WinstonRamnarine-yi3cu I can't take the Hope nonsense. He is afraid of short balls. He is not a test player. He is all limited over. He is averaging less than 15 rounds in test cricket after the double century.

@@WesleyMcpherson-lu1rf which is why I am of the opinion that he should not be learning the art of batsmanship at the highest level. This has the potential to get quite ugly for Kirk.

@@rogerluckham4036 we are developing players to be four and six hitters. It’s evident at all levels. We will never break the top four in test cricket or win a ODI/T20 World Cup with that mentality.

Kirk reminds me of the talented Easton Mc morris. Master in the Caribbean at the regional games. Failed miserably at the international level.

@@WesleyMcpherson-lu1rf but Kirk hasn’t mastered the regional level. He failed terribly in the last First Class tournament that ended in early May.

@@WesleyMcpherson-lu1rf Very true. Kraigg Braithwaite batting has disappeared since he left Zimbabwe 18 months ago. The CWI is throwing mud at a board in the hopes that something will stick. It looks quite awful.

Because I been watching a lot of great players back then, so I don't haveto read any books for someone opinion. Because I was at the cricket grounds or listening to radio or watching TV live broadcast. I know you have your points too, but this is not about opinion. It is about the performances of the players over their careers, if you don't have the numbers to proved your worth during your career. It doesn't make any sense at all, because you cannot change it at all ok.
