Playing the 2nd Need for Speed up to Porsche Unleashed. all on my K6-III 600Mhz in 3dfx on my Voodoo2 12MB SLI. in NFS 2 and 3 I also do a comparison to software mode. in NFS 2 there is no weather effects or fog in software mode, but it has a dashboard when you switch to car view. in NFS3 sw mode runs smooth in 320x240 but is barely playable in 640x480, showing the CPU's shortcomings. Despite some bugs, the game is very playable with the Mechwarrior 2 Portable program. You can start either one of the game of this trology and it works as it should.

Playing on a crowded game server 36 players. You can tell the CPU and the cards are having some trouble keeping up. Especially the CPU, a AMD XP3000 at 2,11Ghz is having some trouble when there is too much to render. I have installed WickedGL 2.99 after changing mohaa.exe to quake3.exe. It gives the Voodoo2 an extra boost not having to render textures that are too detailed. The PC has 512MB DDR...

View distance is set to 3000 (guess that is 3 kilometers) It has some framedrops on my Pentium II 350 Mhz with my Voodoo2 12MB set to compatibility for this game, running in 3Dfx. Framedrops results in this case in slowing down of the game and time somehow.

Yeah it really was something else. And it still holds up pretty well to this day, despite its low res quality.
Why does the screen flicker like that?🤔😳😳
Its standard that sometimes the camera looses track of the 100hz flickering, it tries to ajust its speed to match the 100hz so the screen is as smooth as can be.

Thanks! It took a bit of testing, but I think this is the combo to stick with. Put in a Geforce 3 and it runs GTA VC smooth as butter. Not on the TNT2 though, no HW T&L support.

The fact that this hardware is still working is a testament to the build quality we enjoyed 25 years ago.
Less heat production, more reserves in capacity of the hw components. The Ti200 is easily overclockable to ti500 clocks. The cpu is only using 18W, the Voodoos 15W per piece.. etc.
@@aebtdom Back in the 90's I had a Celeron 300 that I overclocked to 450. It died within a year. I was a poor young soldier at the time so it took me a month to save up for a replacement. I stopped overclocking for obvious reasons. When I had more money in the mid-2000's I overclocked my Radeon 4870x2, and it too died within a year. I gave up on any overclocking after that. I still have my Intel 3ghz Windows 98 SE PC in the basement, and everything works perfectly after 25 years. I want it to stay that way.
My x5675 from 2009 runs overclocked at 4ghz on a Foxconn motherboard for 5 years. Temperatures are good with 3 120mm and 2 140mm fans in total at low rpm which are almost quiet. Let’s see how many years are left in it. I have many replacements in stock 😂 The cooling and voltages back in 2000 were often not up to the task. I overclocked and killed a watercooled athlon 800 back in 2001 with the pencil mod. Had to replace several motherboards and power supplies. The build quality was really bad. Good times 😂
If i good remember the trick in GTA III If u have low fps u can delete folder AUDIO. It gives more fps but no sound 😆 the CPU have less to process and u got fps boost. Maybe it will work also in VC, they are probably on the same engine.

What a beast! I had a Pentium MMX 233MHz but with only 32MB RAM and a Canopus Pure 3D 6MB Voodoo 1 card. A couple years later upgraded to a Celeron 466 w/TNT2 Ultra.
What a cute setup! I only recently started playing with a Voodoo 3 3000 equipped AMD box I was given back in 2006. So now I'm looking for games I missed as a tiddlywink. I had it stored upstairs for 17 years, figured I would finally chuck it out. But plugged it in and gave it a tickle. Booted straight into Windows 98SE, then I looked inside! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) AMD Thunderbird 1.13GHz 1024MB DDR @266MHz (2 x 512MB DDR400) Gigabyte GA-7DX Voodoo 3 3000 /w S-Video NEC USB 2.0 PCI Card Intel 10/100 RJ-45 Nic DVD ROM 2x CD-RW 48x 40GB IDE HDD Only problem is when diddling with more modern games, Max Payne, Unreal Tournament, Mafia, while it can crank them out at 1024x768 with perfectly good frame rates, the card gets REALLY hot. So have to sort out some active cooling and RAM heatsinks. Then I can continue abusing it! 〵(^ o ^)〴
I had a P200 MMX o/c'd to 233mhz when I bought my 12mb V2. Don't recall if I was still using that old CPU when I finally upgraded to SLI, but even with a single V2, all games were CPU bottlenecked.
Agreed, but any game that runs okay on 640x480 ran the same on 1024x768.. better image quality without performance loss.
I miss this game. It’s too bad that missile damage glitch never got fixed, that I know of.
You really need to take it in account when firing multiple salvo's
Honestly you should try a k6-2, the pentium fpu advantage is completely moot for games that use a 3D accelerator and AMD integer units are a lot faster

Officially they don't without the WickedGL patch the menu is all mangled up and out of place. With the patch it runs pretty hardcore.

Ideally it runs on a AMD64 with an X1950 card for good constant framerates. But it is very playable on these settings.
Those cards made a huge difference in detail.

This is around the time you could easily adjust multipliers on cpu's so you could buy a sub $70 and make it perform like a $500+ CPU.

Your playing all the right stuff. Interstate 76 was the first online game where I was in a clan- The MojoMakers. We played capture the flag mostly, back then you just hoped everyone got online around the same time. I was running a Pentium 133(overdrive) with a Canopus Pure3d 6Meg Voodoo. I remember the monster truck game being pretty fun too.
Considering the tnt2 and voodoo3 traded blows the sli voodoo2 beat them both outright in a couple scenarios. I never owned 2 voodoo2s but the voodoo3 was an upgrade from the voodoo2Xvoodoo rush sli configuration I had. People like to talk about bits in terms of color when it came to the cards but anything that had glide support the 3dfx was the best thing to have nothing beat it. Yes before people try to act like they know what they're talk about the voodoo2 could sli with voodoo rush, voodoo2, and voodoo banshee. The later being trash and I owned all three. BTW voodoo banshee actually being 3dfx first AGP card. although I owned the PCI card so my opinion on sli working with AGP isn't an thing but f**K you I dont need a disclaimer.
My first setup was Pentium 233MMX and Voodoo 2 12MB but I overclock it to 266MHz and it was a little beter :) but for me it's the best seup in the world :)

Is your TNT2 overclocked too much? There are visible geometry glitches in DeusEx and in 3dmark. Also texture details looks really bad on TNT2 in DeusEx and Quake3, very surprising considering texture memory size difference, maybe thats due to Nvidia poor 16bit quality. Too bad you didnt perform third run in 32bit depth.
Back in 2000, I managed to get my hands on 5 huge DELL Optiplex workstations. They were awesome machines, really wide cases that opened out from the middle, so very easy to work with. Each had twin Pentium 3 500Mhz CPU's, 256MB RAM, 2 Quantum Fireball SCSI HD's running from a SCSI card (they had onboard SCSI also), and each had a Diamond Viper V770 graphics card. At first I wasn't sure what chipset the GPU's used, but soon learned they were basically TNT2 Pro cards that appeared in many DELL computers around that time. Those machines were brilliant for me and my friends. We'd sit around playing games all night, every weekend, never ending LAN parties at my place. The build quality was so good I don't recall any of them ever crashing. I ended up giving one to my half brother the following year because he had nothing to game on. He'd never had a PC, and when I took him the machine I swapped out the Viper 770 for a Geforce 2 MX 400, and installed Deus Ex for him. Gave him a Samsung Dynaflat 17" monitor too, with a 0.20 dot pitch. He finished the game without ever leaving his house, he was that into it. I still have two of the machines, but no idea if they even work anymore. Haven't switched them on for well over 15 years. Maybe I'll break one out and tidy it up - see if it still lives!
