This Monte Carlo was a true 1 owner car! A true barn find if you will, rusty, crusty and dusty! I was given this amazing original classic to get it back on the road. So follow me along on this journey. Enjoy!
The bottom corners of the rear glass are a common rust area. Check em out close when you replace the package tray supports. Patch panels are available for the quaters also. 255/60 is about as big as you can go within sky-jackin it
Citrus green is the name of the original color. A VERY cool color
Enjoyed the video man! I recently picked up my Dad's old '71 Monte that has sat under an old barn roof for the last 20 years. Its about the same shape as yours but I plan to restore it. Good luck on yours man! PS: Do you happen to remember the bit size you used to drill out the trunk lock?
@@samuellevacy8638 I believe I used about a 7/16 or so. Good luck with your restoration, and thanks for watching!
@@RustyRelicsRescueGarage thanks man!
I'm glad to see you saving this beautiful TA. I have several fourth gen Firebirds and I love them all.
Yep, I'm in love too!! Thanks for watching!
Nicely done! I like the siphon trick. 👍 Car is very well maintained for 20 plus years. 👍 Did I spy a military sticker on the windshield 🫣
Yes, the previous owner is retired Airforce!
@@RustyRelicsRescueGarage Yeah I work at Vandenberg space Force Base I recognize that type of sticker. We're not using that system anymore we actually have a physical badge on our person.
@@VinoRatRodbuilds Ha, I've launched a few birds outta VSFB. We actually have two being integrated there as we speak!
Always another surprise. Don't know if you are familiar with jaredmontecarlo but he did a full monte roof replacement here on YT
Yes, I've watched several of his videos. He does great work!
I still think it is wild they used lead as body filler back then. Not just because it's toxic but also because it weighs a ton.
Yep all that lead adds up too... hence the term "lead sleds"!
Ooof... That looks pretty bad. Funny how trim can just make it look like everything is fine. Then you take it off and you find holes everywhere...
Yep, every time I pull off another piece I keep uncovering more rust! Thanks for watching!
I like those turbines. They fit the car better than the torque thrusts IMHO. As far as content, just film what you want to film. The thing with filming is that it makes everything take so much longer. So you don't want to burn all the time setting up a camera and getting the right shot if your main goal is getting it back on the road in a timely fashion. This generation Monte Carlo 100% is my favorite. I love them and I want one of my own someday. Built to drive. In the eyes of some it will look like a piece of crap, but it will be my piece of crap!
Thanks for the feedback, I've always felt the turbines just fit the car too! Thanks for watching!
Ugggh. Green interior
You Need a Garage! Could be a “NNKH “ ?
I sure do! Hopefully I will soon! Thanks for watching!
More work than talking please
I hate to admit to stripping a 71 monte carlo for parts in the 90's. I pulled the fan shroud and hood then jumped in to take the front of the engine apart . These days I see people selling grills for more than I paid for the whole car.
Yeah, I could use some rust free sheet metal if you had any! 🤪
@@RustyRelicsRescueGarage Sorry all I have left is the engine in a Nova and the front brakes on my Camaro. I ran the TH350 for awhile but it's gone now too.
lots of work ahead but very much worth it
You got that right! Thanks for watching!
Next time whenever you are using the can opener on these strips I would add the felt tape or something soft on the can opener so it dont ding the strips. I can see very small dings on them right after you take them off. Other than this you are doing amazing job! I am looking forward to see more of your project on this car since I might will get the same car as your from my mother in law! It have been sitting for 35 years as well and pretty well taken over by plants. I might will go through what you went through!
Agreed, some padding in the trim would have been smart! Thanks for watching!
Too much talking. We wanna see what you do what your skill😮
I've never claimed to have any skills. 🤪 Never the less I hope you keep watching. I appreciate feedback too, keep it coming! 👍
Man im digging those rims. Wouldn't mind putting on a set on my Monte.
Yeah, me too! I'm thinking of having them powder coated black. Thanks for watching!
You could fix the roof the best you can and then put a vinyl top on it, not sure how much that would be or if it would be cheaper than putting a new roof on it. Just a thought, might can look into it and the vinyl top would hide any inperfections in the top you have on it.
Great feedback, thank you! That was definitely a consideration that I had. The big issue I have though, is that the rear window channel is completely rotted away. So, fixing that plus the additional labor of putting on the vinyl, I'm gonna be into it more than just replacing the roof.
Black paint
por 15 is good for rust inhibitor
forest green metallic would be pretty
my 3rd high school car was a 71 monte Carlo it was metallic brown with a tan vinyl top it had fender skirts on it
Thanks for sharing these video’s ! Love seeing all the progress and detail of it. Can’t wait to see that dark pearl green with black interior. Sounds killer ! Keep up the great work !
Be patient and do it right, it will be worth it, that factory green is a beautiful colour, this has to be the best shape Monte Carlo imo keep the videos coming 👍👍👍from Australia 🇦🇺 🙌🙌🙌
Longer videos but nice work keep up the good work
are you going to bring back its ntral color or start somethng new? do the internet have a choice etc of colors?
Right now I'm leaning towards keeping it green. Not the original green, probably something a bit darker.
Way too much BS and no work getting done. I'M OUT!
i had 3 71s
Very cool! I currently have this 71 Monte, a 71 C20, and a 70 El Camino. My plan is to do restoration on each one here on this channel... Stay tuned!
Nice work on the first two vids Ezra. Looking forward to seeing the progression on this project. Turbine wheels for sure!
I love those classic Western turbine style wheels.
Definitely the tork thrust. 😊
Nice find!! I love the short body Monte Carlo, my first car was a dark maroon 74 monte, 350 big body car, definitely more show then go🤣, that old 350 was tired lol, I sold it a few weeks later because my dad kept telling me to not buy it, he was right lol
She has fared rather well in her 53 yrs
Fantastic project, and a cool car. Love the factory green 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks! 👍
We would rather hear the car
I'm going to do a ride video soon!
Nice video I've always liked the Monte Carlo they need love like the Chevelle ❤️
Yep, the Monte has always been a little underrated. I do love the Chevelle too though.
Agreed. The Monte is like a Chevelle in a dinner suit
Nice job keep um coming
I am working on the next video in this series now. Look for an update coming soon!
