Jook Wan | Rattan Ring | Beginner Wing Chun Exercises vol. 2
In this video I cover beginner exercises for the Wing Chun ring. I look at 2 different Jook Wan sizes and go over how to use them in your training.
I am a nomad traveling the US in my RV in search of new adventures. I started training Wing Chun in 1993 while I was in the Marine Corps. Since then I have trained under 2 Sifus. My first Sifu is Les Clements under the Moy Yat lineage. After only 2 years with him, I moved to Oregon & started training under Sifu David Leung in the Ho Luen lineage. While under the guidance of Sifu Leung, I have trained with several well know Kung Fu masters & have taught hundreds of students the art of Wing Chun. Join me as I give basic instruction in the fundamentals of Wing Chun.
My channel is taking a big turn as I have become a nomad. Come and join me as I share fundamental Wing Chun all around the country.

this is wrong, tonsao is upper block and bongsao is lower block and also...its shifu (师傅)and they pronounce the word wrong, its pronounced more like shea fu, but the 'e' has more of an I sound, its first tone which is the long tone in mandarin chinese, and the fu is 4th tone as if you were saying a curse word in english, it's not a soft tone. they are saying it wrong. i'm fluent in mandarin chinese and have been living in china over 10 years now.

First I appreciate you taking the time to make the video. You've put a lot of effort into it & it shows. I do however have some issues with your defenses & it's just my opinion. In a real fight things happen very fast & 100% correct techniques some times don't come out. The 1st defense: I'd say you are correct about not knowing what is behind you sometimes & there is that issue. IF however you do have space, it is a good defense because there is literally nothing to hit & if you move in the moment the punch passes by, well they haven't recovered yet & are vulnerable. ONLY FOR A SPLIT SECOND THOUGH. So you definitely have to be alert & quick to capitalize on it. 2nd is decent but I would use biu sao on the bicep in a shocking motion which is likely to hurt it. This of course would be followed by a punch but I would choose the solar plexus as a hard strike there will take the fight out of him immediately without undue harm to him. So biu da is what I would use. Oh & stepping in. If it were a potentially deadly encounter, biu jee to the eyes or fak sao to the adams apple. If it were open, I would take both but that probably wouldn't happen. Follow that up with whatever is open to strike but trying to get either the solar plexus or take out the legs. I'm not knocking you though because what you suggest will work too.

I bought the steel one since it won't end up being broken if I dropped it. Now I see why you use the rattan one first 😂 Been a very long time since I practiced, but I'm surprised how quickly I was able to follow and keep up. Excellent lesson

I understand what you're doing however I believe in countering by advancing with footwork. 1 grap & by or above the elbows 2 shuffle your feet engaging his space neutralizing his Tan Sao 3 your passing hand is a connecting ✋ or 👊. Meaning no disrespect 🙏 Just offering alternatives
