Been watching this series since I picked up my first sv650 as a project bike and I swear I'm running into the same issues. It's been sitting outside. I broke one of the exhaust bolts. Wiring harness covered in crud. Front brakes don't work. Electrical wires twisted together and they used clear packing tape on it. I stripped and drilled out the fork fender bolt. They spilled brake fluid on the gauge. Chain all rusted. Fork seals are all chewed up.
@@miken2823 ouch. Sounds like a pile of work but nothing catastrophic
I had mine at repair shop because i was leaking oil from the countershaft i think (idk the name in english) my clutch was fine, but today I picked up my bike and the clutch is now kinda stiff and didnt even fully engage so I had problems changing gear, and im not sure how to fix that, Will the adjustment help me? So it wont be that stiff?
@@slapabiker stiffness is a function of either something binding up or broken. This only changes where the clutch engages/disengages
@@Mad8vCycles I see, well now my clutch does engage, but even with the clutch fully out, it wont roll forward and the cable seems kinda not thight or I dont really know how to call it, but the repair shop probably did something with the clutch worm because u need to take it off to change the countershaft seal, so the clutch should be fixable, but I have no idea how, i did like everything
@@slapabiker open the worm up and see if bearings are missing?
@Mad8vCycles yea the guy from repair shop visited me today and it probably are the circle bearings, probably fallen out when they were changing the countershaft seal
New rider here. Very greatful to have found this video. (Even if I'm 2 years late) I dont ride duck footed, but I absolutely find it more comfortable with heel on pegs and the top of my foot under the shifter. I can clearly see why this is a bad idea. I will be working on fixing my foot position. Thank you very much Mad8v Cycles!
That's nothing excessive, I've obliterated them before now. It looks like someone has sideswiped the rear, similar to when I got hit by a van doing a U turn from the kerb. the frame ding by the tank appears to be slide damage rather than anything more serious, I would be more interested to see the swingarm pivot, often the needle bearings will shatter and the aluminium of the arm will sustain big damage rather than the steel of the frame.
"the frame ding by the tank appears to be slide damage rather than anything more serious" it's smashed in... no longer round... and any frame damage is a total loss
Perfect candidate for a circle track racer, would turn left well 👀
think somoone launched that bad boy
"I like crashes." Hater. Man, that thing must have an exciting story to tell.
Got a bit of a prang.😂

Nasty!
Is loose magnets a fault on the gen 1 650 too? Thanks 👍
@@geoffreycasey875 very rarely. Sv1k is more than 50% of the bikes, 1g sv650 ive maybe ever seen one
Looks great! Where do i get one?
@@rcbb5705 get one what?
Will this adjustment make the chain looser or tighter?
@@zapatastyle just slightly because of the swingarm angle. But while youre there adjust the chain anyway.
This was educational. Thanks!
I fixed a hole in the back of a givi hard bag with jb, I used playdough to create an area for it to stay inside of.
Hope the fella learns from his mistake
Hey man! Where did you get there from? Have a link! I have the same bike and would love to get the same!
they were a (now extinct) dealer accessory. i got them from oneidasuzuki but i dont think they have any left (and 1k is NOT the same) www.oneidasuzuki.com/store/parts-accessories/lower-fairing-sv650s-1000s-2003-06.html?srsltid=AfmBOorenmlTHLP1CpQ82EsUyru05iGycy9fPdsVRhxN60sl93dETre7
My issue is I replaced my solenoid on my 2020 1050 XT adventure bike because I’m watching videos on TH-cam indicating that it could be the solenoid even try to bypass that so annoying and try to start the bike with the key on the running switch on and use a screwdriver and there was no sparkso I’m wondering if there is something else I’m missing maybe the starter or something else I really need some help on this cause I’ve got to get my bike back on the road
Buddy you just saved my ass, thx for making this vid, been riding my 2017 sv650 for 25000 miles and never had a hiccup, then yesterday i went to the post office dropped off some mail, jump on my stallion and for the first time my steed lets me down and dont start... I'm panicking no way to get home, no truck no trailer and the walk is gonna be a few miles😢 down on my luck i check youtube and i try trick mentioned at 5:25 😅 sooo idk whats wrong but i got myself home. Now to diagnose my real issue and get this fixed so i can get riding again
is it still working?
@@MrAlternation yep. Only need it so often but does the job. Had to replace a couple coils (theyre consumable)
@@Mad8vCycles mine is coming in tomorrow from amazon. i will post a video of the wheel hub im trying to remove
Thanks for the video. Was this on a race / track bike? My son has just started racing last year and next season will try an sv650 mini twin. We have a 330mm shock but he is grinding the black widow front pipes. What length of shock do you use please
my race bikes use penskes set on 343 or 345 or something. the oil change/coolant/etc is all the same process on any sv

I got a no crank while in Baltimore yesterday. Also got a c42 code. I think that was caused by me adjusting the clutch lever closer to the handlebar to account for my winter gloves with less reach. I think the switch wasn't hitting the contacts. Still, would that cause a code to be thrown? I adjusted it farthest out from the bar and it fired right up.
@@darekm6859 c42 is antitheft from the ignition. Could be green connector, could be a burned resistor, or something else.
@@Mad8vCycles I'm back home now, it cranks fine if the lever is further out, if I have it on the closest setting to the grip, no crank, so I think my issue was the lever not reaching and making contact with the switch, but the c42 has me wondering. I would guess the clutch lever position switch would fall under the same ignition circuit fault.
@@darekm6859 oh dude, i have had this a few times with aftermarkets. even had a video bitching about a vortex lever doig this
@@Mad8vCycles Yeah, I have aftermarkets, ones the PO had on the bike back in 2013 and 33,000 miles ago when I got it :D I might just jump the wires.
Recently bought a ‘99 for $1,500. Owner also threw in a parts bike (no tank or cluster though). It runs fine, I think I just need to give it a good carb cleaning and sync, and replace a couple things. Bikes definitely been down before and has a weird dent on the front of the tank right next to the handlebars
Why can’t you just fill it all from the reservoir like you would a car?
@@jarrodcapone8617 because it doesnt really suck back in. And because the reservoir holds a hamsters piss worth of fluid
Thx! At what valve clearance do you measure the valve timings as seen in the round diagram? 0,4mm, 1mm or somthing else?
@@zweiradkollektiverichkohn2916 actually no clue. Service manual?
what brand rearsets are they ? what mods you will suggest to take it to kart track ? is it a good alternative to ohvale ?
@@JohnPaulV slower than ohvales but a lot easier to fit on. Driven rearsets. Shock and fork guts and tires are a must. Everything else is... personal preference
I did my magnets just because. Upon inspection, two broke loose and moved. No damage, but I removed them all and jb welded them. Bike was great for awhile. But I noticed after that job that I had random backfires at idle. Now the bike doesn't start at all. Wondering if I somehow damaged the stator.
@@SupramanTRD did you pull the flywheel or do it in place? Magnets have nothing to do with the bike running, only with charging. The pickup coil is what looks for the timing marks. If the flywheel wasnt seated correctly when reinstalling, or the pickup isnt positioned right, you could be missing time. It could also be something completely unrelated
In my case the bike lights turn on and I can hear the fuel pump run when I turn the kill switch on but when I got to start it, I just hear a click from what I’m assuming is the starter solenoid. What can I do? It has its 30 fuses idk what else to check
what's the bennies? ❤
Informative, thanks.
Thank the Lord brother, I've been struggling for hours with all the other ways, this worked the easiest and fastest
hey man, i laid down my sv last week and just got it back running, nothing was bent besides the radiator but my clutch lever broke and foot peg/shifter assembly which i replaced already. But now whenever i hit excess of like 48mph i start to hear a squeak of some sort that sounds. it comes and goes while riding. I try messing with like the radiator and other items within my reach to try and pinpoint it but no luck. do you have any suggestions what to check? visually nothing looks like things are making contact but me being a noob i don’t know what to check, any suggestions?
@@stockblockglock brakes dragging? Rear wheel chain alignment? No way to know without more troubleshooting
My bike suffers from some dirt in the internal oil filter... Can I drain the dirt from the first bolt that I mentioned at the beginning of the video? I hope you will respond with all due respect
@@FirasSakka-n5y doubt it will let anything out. Youd need to get the right cover off to get to the strainer
I've got a unique issue. My sv1000 cranks fine and started once, but would sputter and die eventually, and couldn't get it restarted. The pump primes everytime and the bike backfires a lot. So it has fuel clearly. Any ideas?
@@SupramanTRD could be air, could be timing issues (or flywheel magnets plugging up the sensor). Does it have spark?
Will this throw a rich lean I get p0135 and p0172
@@RLAE420 are your sensors plugged in?
@Mad8vCycles yea I only switched the bank 1 before catalytic converter and my air filter cover flaps around but is held down by zip tie temporary and been through 5 maf UT had just saw the screws are stripped
@@RLAE420 i doubt air leaks in the airbox would throw codes on any bike

I am having problems getting the rear master cylinder bolts out at the moment 😢
I eventually received my tool bought on eBay. I tightened everything to the specified torque and loosened by a quarter of a turn but it was still making noise. I repeated the operation but loosened by 1/8th of a turn this time. I tested today and everything seems fine.

Not possible to wind back? I had an accident and the old gauge got completely destroyed but it was at 36k and the new one i got is at 59k
@@pringlescanwithglovesandsp3455 not without questionable legality and re-writing the eprom. Not something im capable of. Way easier to just buy a lower mileage cluster and wind up
🙄
Mine was really stuck. I had to lay the bike on its side and use a sledge hammer.
That’s how my bike is as well!
Thanks for the video. I might have this issue on my 2006 SV650S so I will check if that is the case by checking the torque of everything. I have ordered a specific socket on eBay.
Thanks
