The sound recording is not very good. I think I can alter some things to improve that and the brightness in the future videos.

    What? This isn't a restoration. This is...weird! 1) You removed all the japanning? Why? 2) You spray painted it with far inferior paint? Why? 3) You hit the plane bed with a torch? A TORCH? 4) You used aggressive files on the frog? I've apparently gone to the dark side of hand tool restoration where actually keeping a tool in proper functioning order is optional!

    never push down on the lapping stroke, you’ll make the sole smile at the front. I’ve just done a type 16, 5 and 1/2. Was rough looking, but it’s come up beautifully. Gonna install a stainless or brass tube, inside the rear tote, because there’s always way too much room either side of the screw, which is why almost every Bailey plane, has loose handles sooner or later.💪🥰😆❤️

    Very ingenious, may have a go myself. But he needs a drill sharpening jig, all his twist drills are a blunt as old nails.

    Why replace components? The ones already fitted have lasted 100 years, the modern stuff hasn't stood the test of time. Should have called this "how to ruin a Stanley No.8 plane"

  • @gavinhouliston
    @gavinhouliston 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why would you remove the japaning to replace it with some cheap spray paint??? Nice way to ruin a good plane that already had the proper finish on the bed of the plane before you ruined it!

    Wonderful work there and that Hock blade is a fantastic choice for the jointer of all jointers. Can get tiring flinging an 8 around. As much as I'd love this plane I'll have to wait until I have more pennies. Only thing I'd do differently if it was me, no offence intended would be to have reinstated the japanning rather than paint. Link here www.inthewoodshop.com/ToolRestorations/ColdCureJapanning.html
