RETEVIS RA87 Offroad GMRS Mobile Radio with MR300 Antenna Kit off road in Bakersfield Vermont.

Took another trip to Bakersfield. Tried the RETEVIS RA87 and MR300 Antenna Kit off road for the first time and was very impressed. I bounced and banged it around and it showed no signs of failure or wear. The antenna and spring mount especially put in work when the antenna hit multiple tree branches at speed and sprung right back up. The volume is loud enough even with no roof or door on the 19...

    Excellent description. I just changed out all of mine at 299k miles chasing a knocking/hard tapping sound. Rod bearings were all perfect but I swapped anyway with new Ford bearings since I was there. It is a 2015 5.0 F150. I now have both valve covers off looking for a seized cam rocker/follower.

      Drop the K member, leave the suspension attached to it so it hangs below the car. Remove the oil, oil filter, oil pan, pickup tube, and splash pan. Remove the spark plugs Remove the bearing caps 1 at a time with a quality 12 point 12mm socket. Do 1 at a time because each cap can only be used on its corresponding connecting rod and it is directional. Replace the bearings one at a time. Use the following torque specs when putting the caps back on. You can slide the bearings out by hand usually, if they get stuck just lightly tap one end with a flat head screwdriver and small hammer so it rotates out of the bearing cap or connecting rod. You may need to rotate your engine to access some caps. If you have a manual put it in 6th gear, jack up the rear wheels, and turn them by hand. If you have an automatic put a breaker bar and socket on the crank pulley and turn by hand. If you push a connecting rod away from the crank just use a wooden dowel or similar to push the piston back down via the spark plug hole. Stage 1: Tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in). Stage 2: Tighten to 38 Nm (28 lb-ft). Stage 3: Tighten an additional 105 degrees There are Ford Racing torque specs out there for the Boss engine, it will lock up your engine. Use the OEM specs for a normal GT I provided. Reassemble in reverse of tear down at this point. You can reuse all gaskets and bolts as long as you didn't damage them. Hand tools only except for the K member. Having a buddy makes reattaching the K member a lot easier. Fill with fresh oil and a new filter. Change oil and filter again in 100-200 miles to remove any remaining metal flakes. I'm the guy on the forums who made this writeup. I've helped many people indirectly and directly with these instructions. It does fix the tick IF your tick is caused by the rod bearing failure. Sometimes it is a warped cylinder, usually cylinder 4. Hey man if this isn’t something I can fix right away how long would you say I have before It causes more issues? Thank you!

      CF FITNESS It totally depends. In my case I got lucky and my bearing wore in a couple of spots without damaging edges. If yours has edges or is loading unevenly it could cause damage fast. I drove mine with the tick for near a year and over 25k miles but I wouldn't recommend it after I found out what it really was.

      Carter Mealey thanks so much man I almost bought a whole new vehicle and traded mine in for penny’s on the dollar cause I thought it was rod knock. I really hope this is it. It sounds exactly like it! I’m gonna try it tonight. Thanks again brother!

      CF FITNESS it is rod knock. But because our cranks are forged and how soft the bearings are they can take a beating and not get a scratch. Replace the bearings and you'll be golden.

      Hey man I just removed my cold air intake and I have oil in the manifold is that normal?

    • @VTOffRoadAdventures
      @VTOffRoadAdventures 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      CF FITNESS A little is normal if you don't have catch cans. The PVC valve vents crankcase pressure. The valve is on more modern engines to prevent oil from venting to atmosphere. Without catch cans it ends up being sent back into the intake.

    Did the noise increase with rpms? Mine seems to be directly connected to rpm.

    I too have experienced the same noise. I have a 14' GT and it only has 31,000 miles. The noise was always kinda there, but it has gotten the way yours is now after taking a 400 mile trip. I have run nothing but Royal Purple and Zmax. The Zmax seemed to keep the noise down, but not anymore. Luckily, it's still under warranty and is scheduled to go this Monday back to the dealership. I'm praying they figure it out. I have to put my car back to stock this weekend. Thank god the tuner I have allows me to go back to stock tune. I'll update when they hopefully fix it.

      Shane Gorman they're likely to say it's normal but it clearly isn't. Make them check the rod bearings. I was quoted 10k from a mechanic for a new motor. 5 bucks later and an afternoon I had it fixed. 3k+ miles later it runs fantastic. Good luck!

      The dealership I bought it from wasn't trust worthy and they didn't identify anything. I had positive equity in the car and traded it in. I test drive a new mustang and honestly was disappointed. My 14 was way faster. The new one handles good but lacks on the top end. Then test drove a scat pack challenger 392 and even though it's heavy and came with way too skinny tires, it's was noticeably faster. It does handle ok, but not quite like my old stang. I drag more than I corner so that's what ended up with. Catch can and got 10-1/2" wheels and tire for rear and 9-1/2"s for the front on order. The power and interior is what sold me. I really wanted a gt350 but it was beyond what I could afford. Sorry to disappoint....
