Maintaining efficiency during rope work in the mtns is incredibly helpful to allow time for other tasks. Or to allow some degree of improv or adjustment to unexpected conditions.
If you’ve been following along this line on Colfax was a highlight of last winter. The combination of commitment, risk mgmt, and technical skills made it a career highlight. On this day I prepared my kit like a utility belt so all the tools were accessible. After probing this site for crevasses I stacked the rope from my pack, re-tied a figure 8, then dug a snow anchor for my Splitboard to rappel in to scout my intended descent.
After the rappel I ascended back up and butterfly coiled the rope around my body: stay tuned for that clip coming soon.
