Cape York 2023 - Weipa to Lakefield National Park and Elim Beach
We left Weipa to drive to Lakefield National Park where we camped for 3 nights in 3 different locations. Then on to Elim Beach for a night before we started the long drive home. Cape York 2023 trip done and dusted. Loved it all!

We can highly recommend this section for the diversity and beauty. This video covers the first 3 days - Walpole to Rame Head Campsite. Gone are the days of the only things at Pennefather were the she-oak trees, 5 jacks and dunes covered in cooktown orchids. I do wonder with all this traffic if the turtles still come to nest there. So many weekends/annual holidays spent there. One of my fav spots. Cheers from an old ex Weipa local ( 1976 - 1986)

    Nice series guys, thansk for making them. At around 4:10 in this video there’s a solar charger on one of the packs, was it any good and what brand / cost. Interested in getting one but I’ve heard a lot of dud stories. Cheers and thanks again.

      Thanks for the lovely comment. I checked with my hubby and he says "Brand Goal zero. Model guide 10. Works great but it weighs approx. 400grams. 20000mah battery pack is about the same weight and will have enough juice for 5 days so that's an alternative option and you aren't reliant on the weather being sunny". I hope this helps. · Reply · 8h

    Loving your vids of this and reliving memories of a failed attempt in 2018 and successful trip in 2020. What time of the year did you walk this to get so many days of hear and clear conditions? I felt for you in the last section when you were hot and thirsty on the way to High Moor, knowing that it was the least shaded camp-site and the one place that there's no lake in which to swim

    • @cmoreoz1
      @cmoreoz1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We started our on January 24th 2018. Thank you for your kind words, my body temp does run quite hot so I feel the heat so the hot days were pretty tough. Yes definately would of loved a cold lake swim at High Moor. The views from the rock at camp once I recovered made up for it. We know even though we had to suffer through a heat wave we were so very lucky with the incredibly clear days with amazing views. How far did you get in 2018? Did the weather mean you had to turn back?

    • @jim22512251
      @jim22512251 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cmoreoz1 in 2018 we got wet and cold in bad weather on the on way to Lake Cygnus. It was a white out and we could barely see the track. We thought we'd missed the Cygnus turn off and might have been lost. Hypothermia was on the way so we put up tent on the side of the track and got in to get dry and warm. Slept a couple of hours. Woke up to find that the cloud had moved, the wind had dropped and that we were 200m away from the turnoff down to Lake Cygnus! Went down to camp and had a great night. Others though at camp were turning back the next day having heard the forecast of storms coming through so we thought it wise to turn back too. Glad we did.

    Absolutely! Any reason to head back to that part of the world is good enough! We are planning to do the Western early next February, so to watch your journey was very useful, and exciting! Just wondering if you guys benefited greatly using hiking poles?

    • @cmoreoz1
      @cmoreoz1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have chatted about this and say we would take them if we went again provided you can tuck them close to the pack that they won't catch on things (tree branches) when not using them. You can only use them part of the time but where you can they are are godsend when climbing steeply or descending (helps your knees). Some people don't ever use hiking poles but we always take them so I guess it's an individual preference.

    • @BB-ml8ki
      @BB-ml8ki 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what mates told me who completed it in April, providing you dont need to use them for knee, hip ankle issues etc, they said they just got in the way, and were glad they didnt take them. Thanks for your advice! Greatly appreciated!

    • @cmoreoz1
      @cmoreoz1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don't usually hike with them I am sure you will be fine :-). Not a necessity on this hike. Along the Larapinta Trail I was very greatful to have them, long days walking on rough terrain those last few kilometres before camp I was glad to have poles to lean on to try and give my feet a little bit of a break :-)

    • @BB-ml8ki
      @BB-ml8ki 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, I have never really used or liked them, all my hiking mates use them and find them very useful, so I think I will leave them behind!
