2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Turbomax Wacky Gas Mileage
Just a brief video to show that the gas mileage you think you’re going to get on the highway and the gas mileage you think you’re going to get in stop and start driving and often quite different than what you’d expect with the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 turbo max.

      Yes. Usually is the worst when the truck is cold, but it is not just a hard shift, but a VERY HARD shift which seems like it could long-term cause damage. Not the best, but it appears to be the way the truck is. Thanks for your comment.

    Everyone doing these mileage tests locks in the cruise control which is fine for perfectly flat roads. However, with the combination of turbo's, increased freeway speeds and even moderately hilly terrain allot better mileage can be had without it. Watch the instant mileage and learn the threshold for where it down shifts and keep it just above that and from downshifting on the slight grades and overpasses by sacrificing a little speed and letting it overrun a little bit on the downside by giving it just enough throttle to keep it out of engine braking and it will surprise you how much the mileage improves.

  • @raymondwalker1757

    I have had a 2wd 19 Double cab rst since new and if my wife is driving (closer to 75) it will get 22-24 mpg on the highway. If I'm driving... usually +9 of that it never breaks 20 like usually 17-18 and if there is a head wind less. Around town I usually get 24 or so driving moderately. Seems like the newer max engine is more thirsty and if you have 4x4 mileage suffers even more. If not for that and the ridiculous prices I would be tempted to trade mine in but the same truck is like 50% more I paid for my 19.

    I mean pushing a full size truck through the air at 75mph is going to suck no matter what. You're putting the engine at very high load, which is not where these small displacement turbo motors are supposed to improve MPG. They improve it where a large V8 would normally be at low load. Last time i took my F150 Ecoboost on 300 mile 75mph road trip I think I averaged about 16 mpg. Doing 65mph it would do 21-22.

    seriously? you trip counter says 14.7 miles 24.2 mpg 20 minutes, and 101.6 miles 15.9 mpg 1 hr 23 mins. Do you know how trip meter works? this video is pointless. Run the trip meter with same miles driven and same time driven on the same route, then compare MPG.

    • @ridgereviews
      @ridgereviews หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the note. The point was to compare different trips. I know what the trip counter says and how it works. One trip was a long-term straight 75MPH steady drive with poor gas mileage. The other was a shorter start and stop trip which should typically result in a lower MPG. Just showing that in a short.

    There’s a lot of factors in fuel economy. Few of the big ones: speed, temperature, wind, and elevation changes.

    • @ridgereviews
      @ridgereviews หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the note. Yes...many factors can contribute. I'll do a longer review with more information, but in both cases, the factors were similar. Little wind. Similar temps. Similar elevations, etc. It is important to note the speed difference as that tends to make a big difference with this truck and engine setup.

      I agree, GM's do suck, but not just because of the reasons you mention. I wouldn't buy one because you cannot get the max trailering package and two speed transfer case on the same truck. You know, because why would you want a truck that could both tow and offroad? 🤣 Also because they suck and only offer a 24 gallon fuel tank which is completely ridiculous on a full size truck.

    I think they owe you a new truck vs. a truck that was factory built then rebuilt at the dealership. (Oil leak) I don't think it will ever be quite the same. Any manufacturer can mess up a seal at the factory so it's not a GM thing. Once the engine or trans has to be removed and parts taken off, it's not new.

    • @ridgereviews
      @ridgereviews 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I've had two consecutive chevy 1500's. I drove the first truck 240 K miles, original engine. My current 2009 has 84K miles (I'm retired so I only drive about 4K miles/year now). Both engines had chronic main seal leaks. My experience is the main seal lasts about 20K miles. In 2016 I was told the main seal was leaking again. I declined the repair. I'm still driving the truck without incident. I recently had the truck serviced at a chevy dealer. Again I was told about the leak. I declined the repair again. The leak has not gotten any worse and it doesn't leak enough to need oil added between oil changes. Both truck engines are 5.3L v-8's. It sounds like your 2.7L engine had a much more serve leak than either of my engines. I can only say that 34 years of experience driving chevy's had proven to me that if the engine doesn't leak, then there's no oil in the engine.

    I have the identically configured truck, a 2023 model in the Copper Metallic (a color just discontinued BTW) and I completely agree with your review except for the transmission lurching, I haven't experienced that but then again you have a different version of the 8L90 transmission (it was updated for 2024) so it could just be a programming issue. I am also slightly hard of hearing in the low range but the engine doesn't sound or feel rough to me, but then again that could just be my ears are not as sensitive as they once were. You mentioned the rpms and I agree. I find that my driving style makes the vehicle very rarely crack 3000 rpms. One reason I bought the truck over the 5.3 is the fact that it will hold 8th gear going up an incline and just build boost to provide the torque instead of downshifting. Even though everyone raves about the 10-speed, I prefer this truck with the 8-speed because paired with the 430 lb/ft of torque, it rarely shifts at all leading to a very relaxing and quiet driving experience.

    • @ridgereviews
      @ridgereviews 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the note. The lurching could be an after effect of the drive train rebuild from the main seal failure, but hard to tell. But like the other commenter pointed out…at least it has a 100K warranty. Have a great week.

    For the tint I suggest to do a 70% ceramic tint for the windshield & a 50% ceramic for the front driver/passenger windows This suggestion is simply bc you mentioned you want the heat protection On my truck I went with 10% rear windows & 30% front windows & windshield it was extremely dark during the day and at night I didn’t notice a difference What I did notice compared to my other vehicles, is that I didn’t have to use the ac on full blast I always keep it at the lowest setting and I’m comfortable with that and with passengers in the truck I don’t need to go more than two turns on the settings knob to have everyone feel comfortable as well The only downside is that with my 2.7 gmc at roughly 92k I had a misfire issue and the dealership diagnosed it with needing a new engine bc there was internals that broke Which is a mystery to me bc I bought it brand new and I would change the engine oil every 5k Nonetheless, I did get the extended warranty so they paid for the bill

    These Toyota "1 ton" dually trucks remind me of my uncle. My dad and my uncle were partners in a battery business (sold everytjing from car batteries to commercial vehicle batteries to batteries for some solar systems) and of course bought junks to sell to recyclers. My uncle was kind of a shit head tbh and was backwards with his money saving priorities, he would go to $500 lunches but was super anal about fuel and demanded we always took the smallest truck, even if he knew it was too small for the job and knew we were going to severely overload it. One time he was driving I5 north coming out of LA and had probably 150 junk batteries on his little Toyota "1 ton" dually flatbed. He hit a horrible pothole and SNAPPED THE AXLE. Damn near killed him and took somebody else with him, the load shifted and he lost some batteries on the highway. When he called my pops to tell hin what happened by dad laughed at him and said "i told you so". My ubcle actually believed these things could haul a ton or more. Spoiler: they couldnt. These things were a joke and were sold to blind Toyota loyalists and people that had no idea about weight or hauling. Phisher Price should have sold these to children as toys and called them "My First Dually" 😂😂😂😂

    My 2018 GMC Sierra SLT crew cab Z71 consistently got 22 mpg highway on trips. And, it had 4wd hi, low, and automatic. Before I bought this truck, I test drove a Tacoma. For the price of the Toy, and lack of MPG, hp, cabin space and especially comfort, I didn't even consider it. Only thing I didn't like about my GMC was the 6 speed transmission. Hard 1-2 shifts and the transmission in park, in a parking lot would randomly clunk so hard that I had thought I had been hit by someone. And, I had the heated and cooled seats. The seats after about an hour driving became uncomfortable. I had a 2023 Ram Rebel, that had a better ride, way better seating comfort.....BUT, I never got over 15 mpg ever on highway trips, the mpg utterly sucked. Loved the truck, hated the gas mileage. So, I traded it for a new Mustang GT, LOL.
