Another classic Dario Death Montage! Always a crowd pleaser!
You know what would be hilarious? If I record myself playing this game, I’ve barely played it lol
I had a good time but soooo much frustration
Man this vid brought back a ton of great memories from that era! I only ever played the demo for Game 8 but really enjoyed it, and for some reason, I never got around to trying the full version. I had no idea that TITus was involved with it! Like you said, they should've stuck with workin on games like that, haha! As far as I'm concerned, Game 6 is the pinnacle of that series of spin-offs. It was all downhill after that, which is a shame because the animated cutscenes and overall high level of polish really added to it. Yes, the voice acting might be a bit cheesy by today's standards, but for the time, it was great. Also, it had a fantastic soundtrack that I still listen to today! As I mentioned in your stream the other day, Game 4 has some of the best sound design in any game ever. Everything just fits the theme they were going for. You know, I kind of prefer the rough look of the original PS1 version over the super clean remake for the GameCube. I'm with you on the jadedness with the lack of Switch port for Game 2. I mean Konami loves makin money by doin the least amount of work possible so why no port!? So, I had a feeling about what Game 1 was going to be, and I'm very pleased with what I saw, haha. Though part of me was half expecting you to troll the audience and bust out Bubsy 3D. I'm going to play Game 1 one of these days, man. Not sure if I should bite the bullet and emulate it or just wait for a legit remaster, but yeah, I'm a big fan of what those two come up with. This was a great and varied list, Dario! Always love when you do these big Top 10 deep dives!
Demos rocked back then. I miss Demo compilations and Demo VHS/DVD show offs. I remember when I finally got my hands on a PS1, I played the absolute crap out of the Packages Demo disk. I agree, many hate on the PS1 looks and I mean, there is some ugly stuff but there's also alot of charm too! But I agree of what you are saying for the remakes. Everything's play Panzer Dragoon? An example I prefer the Saturn Version over the Switch Remake. I think I asked this already but did you ever play Xenosaga Episode 1-3? As usual thansk for watching man, means alot.
@@Dariothehungry I did not play Xenosaga 1-3 but I am aware of them and in that recent Monolithsoft 25 year anniversary vid KOSMOS was shown off at the end alongside Elma from Xeno X and we did just get that Xenoblade X remaster announcement so who knows man maybe a Xenosaga "Complete" remaster is in the works as well. Yep my good buddy Brad is a huge Sega fanboy and marked out for the Saturn when we were kids so I got to play some Panzer Dragoon here and there and I do get what you're referring to when it comes to the look of the OG game compared to the remake for Switch. Everytime you gain somethin you sorta lose somethin eh? Those PS1/PC Gamer demo disks greatly broadened my horizons when it came to gaming back in the 90s haha! Def miss those days!
Xenosaga is worth it, fantastic, but it does have it's ups and downs. Like, I still like the game, but Saga 2 has its drawn out slots, but the trilogy is so damn epic and good. Yeah I agree about the gain lose with remakes. some are so damn good though that they can replace the original, like REmake? Oh man. But, I can still get down with the OG ha ha ha
@@Dariothehungry Yep, REmake is definitely where it's at, but oddly enough, if I had to speedrun either REmake or the original, I'd go with the original. There's less filler, and the pacing is much tighter for speedrunning. Don't get me wrong-I love the additional bits they added to REmake! That bein said I still prefer the OG RE2 on the N64/PS1 over the remake of RE2...dunno why man but the OG version just feels timeless to me, haha!
Awesome list, hadn't even heard of a few of them. Very cool to see Xenogears at the top spot. I haven't played it yet, myself, but I loved Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and I've been meaning to go back and play the originals.
It's flawed but you are in for a treat! Thanks for checking my vid out man, means alot, your channel rocks 🤙
@@Dariothehungry Thanks so much, man! I appreciate that! And I loved flawed games. They're often more interesting than (near)"perfect" games to me.
I am watching this video!
I am liking this comment
Nice one Dario love these obscure lists
Thanks Mr. Electrons. I would love a discussion about electrons one day. Please let me know when you're free. .
@@Dariothehungry😂
Honestly haven’t played tons of Ps1, so I’ll be referring back, good stuff
Heck yeah man, there's a ridiculous amount of games from passable to excellent too so hit me up if you want any recommendations.
Def like MGS and Castlevania. I never played the original Medal of Honor games. Did play Frontlines, but I absolutely love the first Call of Duty.
@KevPez-IS Frontlines was decent, I really enjoyed it back then, but I could tell something was off, and yeah, its because the team left after Underground and worked on the Call of Duty, also Stephen Spielburg was no longer involved. At least... I think so, I'll be doing a few deep dives to refresh my memory lol.
Some surprising games there, glad to see it wasn't just the usual suspect :D
Nice! Thanks for the support man. Besides the heavy hitters, any one you haven't played?
@@Dariothehungry most of them, never owned a PS1. Just have played like symphony of the night with an emulator. Medal of honor seems interesting though because I love old shooters.
Play Aliens Resurrection, it has modern controls and got blasted for it back then
That “Abobo-looking dude” is actually Data East’s old attempt at a mascot, Prince Jinborov Karnovski from Karnov. Every time I see him I think of the old Newgrounds flash “game”, Dance Dance Karnov.
Thats a neat back story I'll be digging into, I had no idea! Thanks for sharing!
What a journey! Awesome as always dario
A journey... Of Rage... ... On the streets
Is this the directors cut :D
Why yes, yes it is lol. The original form was never released.
great video thanks for the shout out Dario
Fo sho playa, McFly actually reminded me through his comment. I was like... oh yeah! He makes content now! (This video was finished when we played together)
You convinced me, Dario! I need to try out Streets of Rage 3 one of these days, haha! I never really gave it much of a chance. I just heard through word of mouth that it wasn't as good as SoR2, but if you're saying the level variety and, more importantly, mobility is better in it, then I'm down to check it out. Speed and flow are super critical in beat'em ups! SoR4 was another good game I played a lot during the pandemic, but I haven't gone back to it since. I know they've released a lot of bonus DLC, so maybe I should update my copy and play through it again. This was a great breakdown of the series! It sucks being the person who accidentally unplugs the console or PC; it's happened to us all at least once! Also, cool Dagumus cameo during the SoR4 co-op!
Oh! Good catch, he wasn't making content then so I need to tag his page. Yeah man, I do recommend playing the Japanese version of it though. The American versions normal mode is actually the hard mode and you can't get to the end unless you paky on it. Plus as you can see, the japanese version has the standard colors for the characters. No idea why Sega of America made all these changes. If you ever decide to slow down the sped up portion of the video, I actually go through the dialoguw of the story 🤣
@@Dariothehungry Oh sick! Had no idea you actually went through it in its entirety just thought it was a bit, haha! 2 Legit 2 Quit ova 'eeere! Yeah, Japanese developers were strange with that, eh? I think they increased the difficulty to counter profits made from rentals or somethin. I believe Bayou Billy was the same.
Lol! Yeah, Nintendo even took Blockbuster to court and lost if I remember that bit of history correctly.
Lookin' sharp, Dario! Must be the new haircut. 😎 I never played these games growing up since I was more into Resident Evil, but I appreciate the cerebral psychological horror elements compared to RE's B-movie aesthetic. Your breakdown of the remake was refreshing, as most people focus on identity politics and culture wars regarding this game, so it was nice to hear a genuine fan's thoughts. Great job on the real-time comparison between the remake and classic versions-very nice touch! I think you might be onto something with the religious comparisons. It would be great if you made standalone videos breaking down various religious themes in games, as you certainly know more than the average gaming TH-camr. For example, ActRaiser 1 and 2 are rich with religious allegories. Considering how Nintendo handled religion back in the day, it's fascinating to see how much developers managed to include and I'm sure you'd have a field day with it. Xenoblade X is another one...some of those sidequests man, haha! Great vid as always, Dario!
@TheTrueandHonest ha ha ha! Probrobly need to invest in some lotion. I appreciate you taking the time to watch, yeah, I played RE2 first, then RE1 before ever running into Silent Hill. If your a fan of the genre I think it's worth taking a dive. especially if you can still play the RE originals. I am actually working on a vid on the endings and the state of the soul I find them to represent. I do agree with the common sentiment of many videos going into what your saying which, everything from the original is here, so I just don't see it. Next scheduled vid will be streets of rage series but the one after I hope to have this ending one complete
I am convinced now to buy dis
Go for it! Playing the original is worth it too btw
18:48 - Nope, 40 Winks has non -horror themed worlds, like space, pirates, medieval etc.
Ah damn, I was under the impression the holloween aesthetic was throughout. Should had played the whole thing through, anyway, thanks for the heads up
@@Dariothehungry To be fair, the house hub area is a bit creepy and could lead you believe it stays with the horror theme. It's worth playing through I'd say, if you like the old 3D platformers.
Yeah, regardless I'll be playing it through, currently working on Silent Hill 2 remake.
Loved it Dario keep em coming
I appreciate it homie.
what's up dario, nice video. i been meaning to stop by, just been busy, tho. do you just like horror games or are you also into movies, bro? anyway, i gotta go. Cheerio.
Hey! What's up man! Thanks for stopping by brother. I am definitely a huge horror fan of both movies and games, what about you?
@@Dariothehungry oh yeah i love em both. i can't keep the rhyme going but i'm down with horror movies. and games.
Nice! Btw, Silent Hill Remake? It's good.
@@Dariothehungry nice! yeah i've been hearing good things but haven't had a chance to check it out yet. i'll get to it in time
Interesting games and that's a great way to start for October!
Thanks for watching! I'm also looking forward to playing Silent Hill 2 Remake and original SH2.
Nice intro for the video, are you excited for the Soul Reaver remasters coming out in 2 months?
100% i am.
"You're being pursued by a mysterious dark force, and you're only armed with your brain..." Welp, I'm screwed! You really went all out with this one, dude. Lots of cool stuff shown off! I've only played the first Splatterhouse, and while it was fun, the third one looks more my style because, like you, I enjoy exploring and checking out everything in a game. Have you ever played the remake that came out on the 360/PS3? Deadeus looks great, man! I've always been a fan of the juxtaposition between the simplistic-looking human sprites and the highly detailed creature/monster sprites in games, as it makes them look far more menacing. I agree that having the game in black and white really adds to the atmosphere they were going for, kind of similar to MadWorld on the Wii. 40 Winks almost looks like a Rare platformer, at least in terms of character designs. Kinda funny considering Eurocom is also a UK dev and they too went on to develop a bunch of 007 licensed games, haha! Never got around to trying out any of the Legacy of Kain games, but they have remastered two of them for the Switch. Maybe I'll check them out when the price is right. Also, Xeno X Brotherhood 4 LYFE!! Thanks again for this awesome vid, Dario!
I feel like I'm physically capable enough but 1. Running like that woth those split decision slides and climbs, coupled with my vo2? I'm done for. Yeah, play Splatterhouse 3. It's good. You do have an In-game map i failed to show. I never played the 360 one. I heard it was well liked by splatterhouse fans but it bombed. Cult classic? I am looking forward to going through deadeus myself. You can get the soul reaver and blood omen series on steam except for these 2. I know they are remaking soul reaver! Xenoblade X needs to go ahead and drop on the switch already
@@Dariothehungry Not sure if you saw but Monolith Soft recently put out a 25th anniversary vid and Elma was present in it so that's somethin! Xenoblade X Remaster is gonna happen one day man...whether it lands on Switch or Switch 2 is a whole other story entirely, haha!
Yeah, I would rather get it sooner than later lol. Namco needs to give permission for a Xenosaga trilogy too while we're on the subject.
Thanks algorithm for showing me this. I love Evercade!
Glad you enjoyed, thank you for watching!
Some good recommendations there. I have just got into Evercade and received my copy of the LoK collection last week. Now I just need my EXP-R to arrive (which won't be until 8th December!)
That's awesome! I hope you like LoK. I really should get the EXP myself. Is it due to the delays in shipping?
@@Dariothehungry I will like LoK as I've already played it on PS1 and PS3 (and the other PS2 games too). The delay to the EXP-R has been stated as a quality control issue discovered when early production units were scrutinised
Man, that sucks. I guess it's better they found out the problem sooner than later
“Pear / Apple” at the beginning = Key
Thanksnfor the heads up!
Great video! I'm curious how much the patch allowing analog controls will help games like 40 winks, Tomb Raider and Soul Reaver. Completely agree with Xenoblade X being a fantastic game!
Thanks for watchinf! Man, I totally forgot about the analogue patch. I'd do a video on it. I did have this video started before the patch but then tweaked it when legacy of kain released.
Video looks good!
Thanks bro
I bought a VS-R and xenocrisis because I’ve heard good things about it. BUT.. I plug it in… doesn’t load. Apparently there are some serious quality issues with evercade carts
@benironside1264 ah man, that really sucks. I've seen these issues crop up on reddit and stuff, if you contact they will replace the cart.
@@Dariothehungry 👍👍 thanks bud.
LOL at 17:59 was not expecting the classic "Dario Spike Death" to make an appearance in this vid but I'm all for it! I knew that Xeno Crisis was on the Genesis and ported to modern consoles, but I had no idea they put it on the N64 until now. I have an Everdrive 64 on the way, and I'm definitely going to support Bitmap Bureau and purchase the ROM for it when it arrives. If a developer is going to put in the effort to get it running on older consoles, you bet I'm going to pay for it! Btw, have you ever played the game Nuclear Throne? It's a fun twin-stick shooter, bullet-hell roguelike with a slick art style reminiscent of Castle Crashers and Alien Hominid. It has tons of replay value, and I suggest you check it out!
Ha ha ha! Looking back I should have zoomed in on the death. Yeah, it's crazy how much they have ported to and it makes no sense but it's so awesome. Nuclear Throne eh? Thank you! I'll check it out! As usual man, I appreciate the support and always watching.
@@Dariothehungry Anytime, dude! Been busy with work and under the weather so kinda behind on catchin up on stuff, haha! On the bright side I did manage to finish Dark Souls Remastered so it hasn't been all bad!
@TheTrueandHonest that's awesome! I still haven't finished Eldin Ring, but I want to go through Dark Souls
@TheTrueandHonest I hope you feel better brother
Great work Dario!
Woah! It's RCA! Thanks for watching and thank you.
Haven't head of either game but Xenocrisis seems nice. It's hard for a twin stick shooter to be boring because they're always fast feeling games which is exactly what I like.
As I said in the video, Xenocrisis is available on everything, it's stupid crazy how many ports it has, to include modern
Hell yea!
@Paahtis thanks for watching bro.
the evercade looks like a cool machine
I like the little thing, I am a fan!
Bad meant good in the 80s.
@robfinlay8058 Yes, and it went into the 90s, like with Problem Child 1 and 2 and other movies, it was all over media still.
Sega génesis was amazing I traded an snes for the genny It came with 2 games Sonic 2 & nfl 94 My top games are 1.sonic 3 & knuckles 🥇 2.shinobi 3. 🏅 3. Streets of rage 2. 🏅 4.shinning force 2 5.Phantasy star 4 6.road rash 2 7.super street fighter 2 8.ultimate mk3 9.contra hard corpse 10.castlevania bloodlines
Hell yeah, your list is like, the essential Genesis experience.
@@Dariothehungrywe need you to do a top ten list The a. Top 20 Then a top 50 Then review all the newer games released in the last 10 years And preview the games coming out
Ha ha ha! I'd me down for a top 50 for the Genesis, ever see Jason Graves top 100 nes games? I think he did a SNES one as well
That’s one slow intro 😂
Yeah, yeah it is isn't it.
Hell yeah, Karnov @ 6:53. Haha, I forgot he was in this game! This is one I never played as a kid and only found out about later in life due to memes. When I finally got around to playing it, I was shocked at how janky it was. It really puts into perspective how much juice developers were able to squeeze out of the NES towards the end of its life with beat 'em ups like Mighty Final Fight and Batman Returns. The only saving grace in Bad Dudes is that wonderful Stage 2 theme... man, that's such a catchy tune that doesn't belong in a game like this. Solid vid, Dario! I'd be down with you coverin the Data East Collection on Evercade!
This is like, the perfect recreated description, either through memes or from memory, you play it, and it's jank. I have no idea how I had any fond memories of it. Music is pretty good I agree! And okay, I'll consider doing full cart evercade reviews. As usual thanks for watching and commenting bro.
Im sick and seeing gameplay of this game only made it worse. Great vid!
Lmao!!! Hope you feel better man, and thanks for watching.
But these days the kids say "sick" when something is extremely good...
Que Bien!
Thank you for watching!
Did you know one of the bad dudes made it into Hollywood later in his life and starred in the movie Bad Grandpa?
Ha ha ha! I guess saving the Commander in Chief from Ninjas is a good opportunity for hollywood
This is great!
Thanks brother for checking it out
