Driving A 38 Year Old Land Cruiser To The Andes (Peru)
Peru, our third country in South America, surprises us with the vast and jaw-dropping Cordillera Blanca region. After ascending to the Andes Mountains from Peru's coast via the stunning desert landscape filled Ruta 3N, we spend a week driving and hiking in Peru's most spectacular region. Highlights include:
Laguna 69, the trekking tourist beloved alpine lake surrounded by snow-capped glaciers at 15,000 feet,
Laguna Parón, another icy blue lake that you can set up base camp next to in your overland rig,
and Pastoruri Glacier, one of the Cordillera Blanca's famous glaciers that can be accessed by a relatively easy hike.

How did we get here?
We're Cody and Olivia, an American couple from Oregon, who found a love for 4x4 driving and camping after we purchased a 3rd gen Toyota 4Runner. After exploring much of the American west in our 4Runner, we found our dream overland rig, a 1985 HJ75 Toyota Landcruiser Troopy, in Bend, Oregon. We plunged head first into fixing up and building out the Troopy with a lot of misadventures along the way. Finally in 2022, we realized we had an opportunity to live our dream of full-time overland travel. We quit our jobs, sold our house and all of our belongings, and set out on the road trip of a lifetime following the Pan-American Highway south to Ushuaia, Argentina.

First 4x4 Drives & Waves in Ecuador
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
They say time feels like it's passing us by quickly when we get locked into a routine that doesn't change often. Back home in the US, we felt like our lives were slowly slipping through our fingers into the mundane. So we left the comfort of home behind, and decided to drive our 1985 HJ75 Toyota Land Cruiser Troopy south on the Pan-American Highway to Argentina. In Ecuador, we found *so many* f...
A Colombian Overland Adventure: Land Cruiser + Defender
มุมมอง 7Kปีที่แล้ว
When we left one year ago to drive our 38 year old Toyota Land Cruiser Troopy all the way south to Argentina, we knew some serious adventures were in our future. But we weren't prepared for what South America would offer us. Rugged 4x4 tracks, rare flora and fauna that you can't see anywhere else, and friendships with other travelers that will last a lifetime. In this video, we search for the e...
Driving A 38 Year Old Land Cruiser Around The World
มุมมอง 35Kปีที่แล้ว
People think we're crazy for traveling the world in a Toyota Land Cruiser from 1985, but we LOVE this rig. Despite it's 38 years of age (many years older than both of us), there is no other vehicle we'd want to travel in long-term. But after 10 months of travel, we are realizing a vehicle of this age requires another level of maintenance to keep it on the road and heading south on the Pan-Ameri...
Our Last Days in Mexico While Our Land Cruiser Ships South
มุมมอง 2Kปีที่แล้ว
After shipping our 1985 HJ75 Toyota Land Cruiser Troopy in a container to South America, we picked up a rental Renault Kwid and jetted off (via the 1 liter, 3 cylinder engine) to spend a few weeks in Mexico City. We resume our travels on the Pan-American Highway in Colombia in the next episode :) For exclusive news and behind the scenes, support us on Patreon www.patreon.com/gdayjambo Follow us...
Shipping Our Land Cruiser To South America
มุมมอง 8Kปีที่แล้ว
Shipping our 1985 HJ75 Toyota Landcruiser from Mexico to Colombia was a no-brainer for us. Our right hand drive Australian Toyota isn't allowed in several countries in central america. So we joined forces with our kiwi friend Tom, who also owns a RHD Land Rover Defender, to ship our rigs to South America and continue our journey south on the Pan-American Highway to Argentina. For exclusive news...

Our Land Cruiser's First Break Down on the Pan-American
มุมมอง 4.6Kปีที่แล้ว
We finally made it to mainland Mexico while traveling the Pan-American highway in our 1985 HJ75 Landcruiser Troopy. But we quickly ran into engine issues that left us broken down and stranded in Mexico State near Jilotepec for almost three weeks. Fortunately, Raul of La Burbuja, his family, and friends came to our rescue with a place to stay, somewhere to ship our much needed parts, and a level...
We Took An Overnight Cargo Ferry To Sinaloa
มุมมอง 3.3Kปีที่แล้ว
As Americans, traveling to interior Mexico for the first time felt, well, scary. And as we prepared to board an overnight ferry from Baja to Sinaloa in our 1985 HJ75 Toyota Landcruiser Troopy, we were nervous. Regardless of how many travelers we'd met that said Mexico was generally safe, we struggled to push aside the internalized fears we had from the typical media coverage of Mexico in the US...

FULL TOUR | Our DIY Land Cruiser Troopy Overland Build

1985 12H-T swapped HJ75 Toyota Land Cruiser Troopy w/ Trakka pop-top conversion. This vehicle was nearly entirely self-converted. Over the course of three years, we taught ourselves everything from sewing to welding in order to prepare our Troopy, Jambo, to take on the Pan-American highway. We wanted a fully mechanical vehicle that could be fixed anywhere in the world with simple tools and that...

This is awesome guys!
Where you able to ship lithium batteries with your vehicle? Im looking to ship but they want $1000 extra for the batteries!
Wonderful episode! Love the troopy. How ma y miles do you have on it and what did you pay for it if you don’t mine me asking? I want to sell my 2015 Tacoma for one. It’s my dream rig what you have!!
2:18 Agua Verde is what she says
Are you two ok, no posting in 7 months.
I was thinking the same
What do you think is most reliable?

My family is from this area. Blodgett canyon is named after my 2x great grandfather and his homestead. You should try that trail next time!
Exceptional service day and age ❤
amazing views !
Come back soon! Missing your adventures 😊
Outstanding job!
Great video, I am in Australia, recently retired and currently fitting out a 2024 model Troopy. My previous Toyota I have had since new & it is still going well after 21 years. I expect my grandsons will be driving them both long after I am gone. Safe travels

We used to live on Bear Creek Rd. I agree. Most epic hike! I loved the fact when we finally made it to the top, to see the drop dead gorgeous overlook.
Hey homie, brake fluid is meant to be used right away. It's cheap just buy some new stuff
Nice size this container and your comments: no way! I love it❤
How much was it to get it shipped?
Which camera model are you using for videos? tnx
Hey guys, don’t forget to post about our meet up in Lima🫶
I am in Australia and planning to travel to North America with my camper van. My van is 2.7 meters high and 6 meters long. I would like to know how to transport it to Los Angeles by sea? Thanks!
Great video and beautiful scenery! Pretty amazing country! Much different than KF! Glad Blake told us about your channel 😊 (Hi for your hometown 👋🏻)
This was your best production yet. Awesome capture of your journey and great editing and effort to set cameras
You can’t buy good land cruises these days the engine in that car is the best engine you’ll ever come across goes forever change your regular Million k’s plus
I'm a Toyota guy, but the defenders look so cool!!
Pretty awesome. We are there a month ago in an F150 Tremor.
As others have already stated, great to get a new video from you! Great job on the push start...that's a big vehicle! Been a long time since I've done one of those.
Great to see you back! More videos to come in the future, but the timeline is TBD. Unsurprisingly that's not the first time I've had to push Jambo 😅
Great to see an update from you 2!!
Reminded me of my wife push starting our 1965 vW bus in the early 70’s when the starter went out in Colorado. She married me anyway. Beautiful view.views. Beautiful location. Thanks.
Hah, fortunately for Cody, we were already married but this isn't the first time I've push started our Troopy 😅
Epic views! Thanks for showing us around :) I've lived in the Canadian Rockies and high elevation hiking is no joke.
Thanks for being here! Yes, elevations are no joke. Spending significant time at 14,000 feet and above was rough.
awesome video! those mountain views were pretty awesome! great video!
That was a long break. We missed you!
Glad to see you back too! We all need a break sometimes.
Did I miss Columbia and Ecuador?
Those are our two previous videos!
such a beautiful coffee cup, where did you buy it?
That was my most prized comfort object on the trip! It is a handmade mug from Alpenglow Pottery in Grants Pass, Oregon.
@@gdayjambo many thanks for the answer. the mug looks really nice. I wish you continued success. keep it up
Man, Olivia is strong 💪 . Good to see you again guys.
Hah the physics of the tires sure helps. Good to see you back on the channel! Hope all is well in California :)
WOW - You guys have made my day, was so depressed and after watching this, i'm kind of relax. Thank you very much for being out there.
Ah thank you so much for watching. Glad we could provide some comfort with a laidback video 😊
You can't take the 'cattle' out of a cattle dog.
Absolutely 😂 Fortunately he is well trained but that's one genetic urge that is impossible for him to resist.
Welcome back. Glad to see you guys.
Glad to see you here too!!
So siicckk!! may i ask what pack you are rockin? looks dope!!
Thanks. The green/black pack is the Errant Pro from Boundary Supply.
@@gdayjambo thank you! I think I might have to pick one up 🙏
I have been waiting for the next video. The country you saw was amazing. I know how I felt when we moved from almost sea level in Cali to Cheyenne, I can imagine just how I would feel going to 14 -15,000 feet. Just how many people did you guys pass on the way up the mountains? Were there a lot of folks where you guys visited?
Ah sorry for the delay! Going from sea level to 14k feet in a few days was pretty awful but I adjusted eventually. There always seemed to be people around in the touristy spots. We usually would get up early or wait until sunset to avoid any crowds. Seemed to be a decent strategy in Peru.
Wow - that Laguna was stunning! Glad to see more stories from you on the road!
Thanks for watching!
Great to see you back 😊
Glad to have you back on the channel!
🙏👍👌❤️
Swing spot out of this world epic content
Thanks! The Cordillera Blanca region is stunning so that made it pretty easy to get some nice video.
Scenery is amazing!
Peru is pretty awesome!
Great content! The views, Roan and his new friends ! The transitions, the narrative, the pauses, the music ! The way you share your world and your thoughts about your journey… truly enjoyable. Thank you
Thank you for this lovely comment! It is a lot of work to put it all together into one short video. So glad you appreciate all the small details 🥰
