Good points all around. Unfortunately, the way that armour works on mobs (to my understanding) is it pulls from a pool of each of the different pieces, and each piece has the same unalterable chance to be put on the mob. Thereby, because there are multiple armour sets of fur and only one of Mordor armour, the chance of getting fur is higher. So either Mordor Orcs can have the fur armour a lot of the time, or can’t, and then the armour would be the same as Renewed.

Oh, thank you so much! Minecraft graphics have really been just exponentially improving. I'm just glad that I have a computer good enough to see some of the best of it!

First of all, thank you for your interest in the mod! I’m going to attempt to answer your questions, possibly in multiple replies in order to answer all your questions. To clarify, we are an add-on mod, which means we require Renewed in order to function. This means that we cannot change versions, or in other words, update to 1.18, 1.20, etc. Our goal with this mod is to port all of the 1.7.10 features to 1.16.5, while “Renewing” all the older features, and adding our own.

We’ve put around a year of constant updates into the mod so far, and the team has no intent of quitting. As far as joining up with the original team, the original team of modders for LOTR consisted of Mevans, the main modder , and Gruk, the texturer, and a few structure builders. Gruk is currently working on his own game, and Mevans has gone completely silent since early 2023. Since then, most of the LOTR community has waited for Mevans to return, as he did leave a legacy behind to not make an updated version of his mod. Well, after so much time, our mod leader, MaximustheMiner got ideas he wanted to implement, and desperately wanted the mod to continue on. He contacted Mevans, and after months of waiting, decided to start coding a Renewed update himself. Our team has grown since then, and now we are doing well and strong. Mevans left just enough in the last Renewed updates that we had enough to build off of. Unfortunately, the majority (specifically loud and powerful members) of the LOTR mod community is in opposition to our mod and it’s attempt to continue Mevan’s work, and thus holds great animosity towards us. They have often suppressed our efforts at advertising our mod in places where it would be seen, and as a rule vocally are against us. Hopefully that answers that segment!

A clarification, our mod needs Renewed 5.5 (the latest version) in the mods folder in order to work. We are tied to it, so if Renewed was updated, we’d have to update our mod to make it compatible. We’d also likely be a true add-on at that point, as Mevans would add his own stuff.

I would hope that if Renewed was revived, which is unlikely, Mevans would contact us and we would figure out a compromise. Thanks for the great comment!

@@TimoneCorps Thank you very much for your extended answer, it is more than what I hoped for and of much help to see more clearly. Hm, that doesn't sound like a cooperative situation, what a shame, for the sakes of the mod's future. I am not in a position to judge how things stand, so will have to take your word for it (regarding the attitude of the fanbase) until counter arguments may say otherwise or reinforce it. But it does sound logical, it's a lot like the usual chain of events: a labour of love results in a charismatic leader, which leads to a cult of personality. This is something undeniable, as I have been following the development of the mod for the past decade: Mevans was almost a one-man show and given the age of the audience (and nature of the product, being a computer game), it was predictable that there would be little sophistication in how this cult of personality forms a fanbase that does not necessarily show reason towards the fact that change is inevitable. I have personally witnessed little tolerance for player submitted ideas, while it is obvious that creativity should be allowed, while it is impossible to adhere 100% to lore. The attitude of some immature individuals that suddenly got some power and have no idea how to wield it, resulted in a very restrictive growth in content. Especially as the development process pretty much halted (and to be fair, was very slow for lack of resources, to begin with), hardcore fans easily fall into a Stockholm syndrome and perpetuate this on multiplayer servers as if the mod is equal to its fanbase. Ironically, it is these servers where there does not seem to be an issue with crushing Tolkien's lore by swapping the golden ring symbol to one with rainbow colours for virtue signalling, introducing caults within cults (like the "Floppa" meme) and in general trying to pull personal attention towards the fanbase, while at the same time pretending to be protective of both Tolkien's lore, as well as Mevans' mod creation. You can't be virtue signalling on very recent social/political topics, while keeping Tolkien's lore intact and abide by the wishes of the mod creator at the same time. This results in chaos that will be detrimental to the mod itself on the long run and might spell its end. The fact that they are waiting for the creator to return is like a Jehova's witness cult, which takes away its own strength of growth, as it hands over responsibility to their Messiah. The victim mindset of a slave. Mevans' initial responses made it clear that he does not want to scale this to the level of how complex the world of Tolkien would require it, to transform it into an authentic experience. His standards are high and that showed. But doing so he also destined the mod to never grow to its full potential. I understand his reasoning (especially seeing the result of Tolkien's heritage at large since Christopher Tolkien's death, just look at how the Tolkien Estate is selling out to Amazon, destroying the high standard of quality that the Peter Jackson franchise upheld and which should have been the last product they would allow on screen), but I think he made a mistake. As a player myself, who does not put the emphasis on multiplayer servers, but like to play on my own, immersed in the discovery of a world that has rules not tainted by the toxicity of online gaming, I have been finding the development process terribly slow, with a lot of basic elements missing that could have been developed with a larger team. Gameplay styles like conquest have gradually been introduced, but with little ability to mod (e.g. cooldown of conquered areas) and generally simplistic mechanics that does not require a high knowledge of lore, rather technical knowledge of Minecraft development and some gaming psychology. I also miss the major structures and while I understand that these are left out to allow servers to be creative and have players build these themselves (the major power of Minecraft as a game platform), there is still quite a large audience that would like to (re)discover the world of Tolkien and be mesmerized by all the monumental buildings, which, let's be honest, is one of the biggest parts of Middle-earth lore. Without Minas Tirith, Rivendell, Minas Morgul, to name a few, can we really call it Middle-earth?.. The real shame is that these have actually been built in several ways by different players, either on servers or on standalone, some have even offered their map areas to download for free, but it requires a lot of work and terrain smoothing for every single player, which pretty much kills it for a larger audience. In that sense, I feel there is some hubris from Mevans' side that is not helpful for those hearing about the mod for the first time, playing it fanatically for some time, just to realize it is unfinished and will probably remain so, forever. This means that at this pace, generations of gamers will come and go but none will remain to increase the critical mass, which would push the mod over the threshold to make it a huge success that is not limited to a small hardcore fanbase (which, in time, will also grow out of it, which is when the mod gets buried foregood, as it will not keep up with the times). I really hope you guys can help the mod over this threshold, even if it means that for lack of cooperation the branching off will be less productive than desirable. But I wouldn't bother too much about the vitriol you meet: it is the natural reaction of a dying breed, the cult of personality. Given enough motivation and enthousiasm, hopefully you may be able to change the mind of the original creator, in case he reemerges. I wish you all the success in your ventures!

Yes! I don't know the Branch recipe off the top of my head, but there is JEI and JEI LOTR (required to work with Renewed Extended). I use those all the time and in the future we will add custom support for newer crafting recipes. For now, make sure to get jei-1.16.5-7.7.1.152 and jeilotr-4.0.0-BETA, as those versions work together. Thanks!

“Useless” is a subjective term. I understand your meaning, but part of the reason we are adding new things is to make a mod that is more than just LOTR mod in 1.16.5. And yes, our organization isn’t perfect. We’re just a bunch of people who got together to make something that we loved new and fresh again. If you check the changelog, you’ll see that this update added lots of coding systems that will make development smoother and quicker in the future. We’re going at a quick pace already, it’s just hard to see. Ducks and Plums were our way of having something fun to work on, and we did! Thanks!

the plums are a rather simple addition, as are the ducks, many of us are sort of sitting around waiting for other stuff to be done so we make a ton of assets that are in storage for a later date, adding ducks doesn't require much coding

@@AviatorofDoom one region at a time is a good focus for a modding team. I think people forget that the renewed mod has not seen an update for several years. This modding team is actually working pretty fast and we get to get all changes and not have to wait for a "finished" version that will be updated. It would also be nice for people like the OP to let the mod team know what they think is the most important thing, since so many people think different things are important. Either that or help out with the modding by asking if they need help with coding or textures.

I don’t entirely understand your question, but I will attempt to answer it. When you are on the world creation screen, you have a few options in terms of “World Type”. I’m assuming that you did not selected either of the Middle Earth options, which would automatically spawn you into Middle Earth, either as a random mix of biomes, or the actual Middle Earth map. If you selected a “Default” World Type, then you will need to craft a Gold Ring (using 8 golden nuggets) and then find a source of Fire/Lava (you can use flint and steel), and throw the Ring in. This will cause an explosion, and then a Ring Portal to appear. Build up to the Ring Portal, and then you will be teleported to Middle Earth! Thanks!
