It's a shame some things are replicas because of the Yankees after WW2, but it's amazing to know that the wood on the deck is intrinsically original from the era of Admiral Togo. For the first time, using Google Maps was almost useless. Over such a period of time, any traces of the railway simply disappeared.

Almost no trace of this line now. Ikeda has many abandoned buildings. It was fun and challenging following your journey on google maps.

If you are looking for an obscure abandoned railway path, look at Sannomidori Park, near Tennoji, south Osaka, - the line diverted left off the freight yard, and then down thru houses to meet up on the Midosjui line , south to Osaka bay. Now a childrens park, even with an old signal still standing. ;)

Opened in 1925, closed in 1938. This is the ruins of the Ikeda Railway, which disappeared after only 12 years. 0:00 Azumi Oiwake Station. This is a station on the Oito Line of JR East. This is the old Tokaido Line, an important line connecting Tokyo and Osaka. It opened in 1920 and was in use until 1972. When two Shinkansens pass each other in the opposite directions ...all quiet, then suddenly ..."Brrrttt" , and then quiet again. Gives you a little shock if you are dozing .. ;)

I've done that same trip, but in daylight- eerie how smooth it is- smoother than an airplane. I loved put my phone GPS up to window to see doing over 300kmh ! ;)

There is a strange curved grass cutting that comes of the main road from Tennoji and Shin-Imamiya that caught my eye, that now leads down thru Sannomidori Park , which even has an old semaphore signal there
