2024 USA Cycling Pro Criterium Nationals - RAW
Raw footage of 2024 Pro Crit Nationals in Charleston, WV. Heavy rain meant slower and more cautious racing, but still provided plenty of tricky and tactical racing. GoPro died with 20 minutes to go. Two Velocious Sport teammates, Clayton Travis and Will Hardin, landed in the top 10, and I finished 26th.

First time doing a kermesse, and it did not disappoint. Still need to figure out positioning, fueling, and strategy, but that'll hopefully come with time. GoPro battery died, so enjoy the first few laps of the Belsele-Wass kermesse race

First criterium of the 2024 road calendar year! Was a bit unsure how my legs and the new bike would feel, but stoked to find out they felt solid. Great team outing from the day before in the road race with Aaron taking the W, and another great day of tactics with Niko and myself getting into a 4-man breakaway. Punchiest Race of 2023? Winston Salem Gears & Guitars Criterium Highlights
มุมมอง 538ปีที่แล้ว
Arguably the hardest and punchiest crit of 2023. Legs felt nice and fresh for this race and my goal was a top 15. Unfortunately, my seat post slipped and a free lap was not granted when I went into the pits. Lesson learned. 30 people out of 90 finished, so being a lap down, I finished 31st. Super stoked for my teammate Aaron who not only finished 13th in the pro field but won the Cat 2/3 race e...

Full race footage from the last stage of the Tour of Newport News: Fort Eustis Circuit Race. With Clayton and me both in the top 5 in GC, our team goal was to keep us there at the very least, and hopefully move up a spot or two. The team executed a superb lead out on the last straight, helping Clayton secure the stage win and get 3rd in GC. I finished 5th on the stage and 4th in GC. Definitely ...

With a full Velocious squad, our goal was to keep it fast and smooth at the start and represent any break that got up the road later in the race. We raced aggressively and it ended up paying off in the end. Clayton ended up getting the win, and I finished 4th.

terrible
Damn good racing that is.
This is 3 yrs ago! Wow. So you said in the video you were 6 weeks after the crash & break. Mine looked almost identical with 9 screws and the plate but on my right. So, just wondering how you felt at 6/7 weeks and did you opt to have surgery? If so did you leave the hardware in? I know, so many questions.. I'm just one week after surgery and 2 weeks & 3 days after the crash n burn. I'm an active 53 yr old. Married/ kids/ restaurant owner so I'll need to be good. I feel ok at this point but physical therapy starts in 5 days. Would you say your recovery is what you expected or better or??
Good to see my hometown hosting cool stuff like this. I am doing my first CX race in 2 weeks.
Top effort 👍🏻👍🏻

Insane
Too much coasting. Looks more like a nice ride through the forest than a race.
Amazing! Great footage. Why not pedal when the person you want to pass is coasting?
Crazy fun
*Result?* 🧐
didn't finish this one. Was my first kermesse and got popped a little over halfway through
@@eliwoodard42 *Fair enough, you gotta pay your dues, upload the other races?*
Baffles me why everyone risks getting knocked off in the first few corners of the race. There is along distance to go, the pack always separates, wait for this moment before you attack early and risk getting taken out while the pack is bunched.
Very true. Unlike US crits, Belgian kermesses are 2.5-3 hours typically. So while there is a long distance to go, the first 30-45 minutes are usually the hardest. That's why the first few corners are sometimes cut throat. Everyone wants to get towards the front to avoid the splits, especially on tighter courses where there's 150+ riders. But again, each course is different and there's a lot of patience and strategy that goes into it
@@eliwoodard42 there is a famous saying....only fools rush in. I totally agree with you, 2.5 hours is plenty of time to catch any pack in the race. No rider can sustain that pace from the start, not Even in 22.9 Criterium Race. The first 20mins of the race is the most important, it's about staying on the bike so you can complete the race and not letting your adrenaline take over. There is plenty of time to attack, why blow your chance in the first 10-20 mins risking the race and your bike. There is still 2 hours left of Racing & Pacing yourself to finish the Race.
I hope you do some commentary on this 😁
I hope so too. If I have time between working remotely and training/racing, I hope to make a quick commentary video on some footage
My fav euro pro
lol far from a pro, especially in Belgium's standards
What is wrong with Europe? Why do they always put random shit in the middle of the road? My American brain fails to comprehend. I'm talking about the road furniture lmao.
Makes it more spicy and interesting
Oh! That's me!
They weren't ready for the smoke 🔥
The ridder infront fucked him up he braked on the turn
Dude...why take that line....
When I first saw it, I thought he just fell over by himself... I see the front wheel overlap now. Oof. All I saw from the start/finish line was Alex's bike just flying towards the barriers. Literally flying. 😅 Glad everyone is okay. Alex smartly did a front flip and landed on his back - pro move!
Handled his bidness pretty well

Awesome video. I’m from Winston and this will be my first year racing
Awesome! You’re in a great place for racing

I'll let Niko know :)
yikes!

Shitttt!
Beast.
In Argentina it's common racing with single speed in crits or at short circuit races. Many cyclist in Elite category prefers these bikes because the response is better at getting out of the curves
Thats anything but a pitstop 😡
Where was the velodrome track in this video?
Nice! I've been wondering about this cuz Newport News has the same sprints event. Is shifting your gears allowed?? What kind of gear did you start in? Looks like a pretty heavy gear. In my mind, if I tried without any prior knowledge, I'd start in some mid gear and then shift up. 🤷

Crazy hard race hahaha. Good stuff regardless of outcome. Having a teammate finish top 15 in that field is pretty sweet! 5:10 shows the face of a man who wants to pass out on a couch lol.
thanks man! A top 10 would've been nice, but still stoked on Aaron's finish. And yeah, lots of pain faces like those throughout the race haha
nice one! I might do this race in 2024, but lower category. At first glance, definitely looks like a "first to the second to last corner wins" type of course. Seems like that's what happened in this one too. Also, sounds like there was a crash right behind you in the third to last corner(?).
Definitely a race to check out in 2024! Such a great omnium event with awesome courses. You’re right in that the first through the last 2 corners wins 90% of the time. My teammate Clayton led those corners and ended up winning. Only way you can butcher it is if you slip a chain or cramp up. And yes, someone rolled their tire/clipped a pedal in that turn I think
@@eliwoodard42 Cool cool 👍. I live in northern VA so I'm gonna try to make it to this omnium. Just formed a new team so we are excited to race together. Where do you live and race? I think I saw some thumbnails of you racing around the country(?)
@@jameskim3 Very nice! Maybe I'll see you there. I live in Raleigh, NC, so I try to make it around the east coast for all kinds of racing
@@eliwoodard42 sweet 👍. Yeah, I have four young kids at home and I'm not a very talented rider 😂, so I don't travel too far for races and I make my own TH-cam videos too, just as a cycling hobby 🤘. Hope to see you there if I can make it 👊

Love what they did with the course!
Perfect!
Great video!
That was a fun race to watch! Crazy how much smaller the field got, and that front camera shows the angle of the hill but I’m sure it doesn’t do it as much justice until someone rides it. Unfortunate about your saddle, but good job!
He was smashin! Well done!

Looks like Raleigh PD might be using this video as evidence or at least be using it to help I.D. a possible arsonist.
Did you feel pain in your clavicle ?
yes, a lot of pain. Once the adrenaline wore off, it was probably the most pain I've been in
