New Pickleball Paddle Release Party - The Brute is Out! (Reviews and More)
I hosted a fun pickleball party for the release of my new paddle, the Brute.
We had over 40 people come out that day in Austin Texas. A lot of players tried out the paddle and a few of them gave us their thoughts!
You can find the Brute paddle online here at my store: calvin-keeney.myshopify.com/products/the-brute-pickleball-paddle-by-calvin-keeney
Or test out some demos and purchase in store if you are local in Austin at ATPC.

How to Dodge Out Balls in Pickleball
มุมมอง 473ปีที่แล้ว
Dodging out balls is key to learn in Pickleball. It's very hard to do even when you are anticipating correctly. And yes anticipation is key to me for dodging out balls as you don't have time to figure it out completely while the ball is in the air coming fast at your body. 3 tips for anticipating an out ball are: 1. How close is the opponent? 2. How high are they hitting the ball? 3. And how ha...
How a Pickleball Point Typically Plays Out | The 3 Parts of a Pickleball Point

In this video I talk about how a Pickleball point tends to flow and how it usually consists of 3 parts. 2 Key Tips for Getting to the Kitchen as the Serving Team - Pickleball Concepts, 2nd Part of PBPoint
มุมมอง 352ปีที่แล้ว
Today we discuss getting to the kitchen as the serving team. This is one of the most difficult barriers to break as a newer player as it's tough to hit a good enough drop shot, drive or lob to get you and your partner SAFELY to the kitchen. I call this the 2nd part of the Pickleball point and it's a big reason why the returning team has such a big advantage in Pickleball. Want a Zero Zero Start...

Pickleball Wall Drills for You to Practice

Should I Hit the New Bounce Serve?
มุมมอง 6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I'm a huge fan of this new bounce serve. It's much easier to hit and you can get a lot more consistency/power in your serve. This will give the serving team a little help in winning points. I think it will take several months for people to spend the time to practice the bounce serve. Once they do, they will likely keep it for good. I know I was skeptical at first just like most. But after about...

      However far is comfortable for me to hit the ball after it bounces back from the wall. In the video maybe 5-7 ft on dinks and 15-18ft on drives. Depends on type of ball/wall and how hard I’m hitting

    Excellent video, l like how you included everything in the end for the last drill. How many repetitions for each shot should we do when we practice?

    • @CalvinKeeney
      @CalvinKeeney 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks so much! That is nice to hear. I would say focus more reps on the skills that seem the most challenging. There isn't a magic number but try to drill in a way that is fun. You will quit if too boring. With that in mind, I will do certain drills until I'm either a bit physically exhausted and need a rest. Or if they start getting too boring I will modify the drill or switch. Some days I need to improve my drive more so I will focus most of that wall drill time on that. Sprinkling in some other drills. While some days I just want to hone all of my skills and I will do a fairly even mix of the drills. I usually focus on time spent versus number of balls. So if I have 10 minutes to hit on the wall before I play, then I might do 8 minutes of drives and 2 minutes of other. Or 2 minutes on 5 different skills, etc. Hope that helps! Keep it fun is the main point from this

      I haven't played with a Ronbus R1 but I looked it up and it has very similar build to the Brute so I'm guessing they play very much alike. The Ronbus has what looks like a matte black finish while the Brute has a glossy black finish. Not really much/any difference in how they play though. Just a small look difference

    • @CalvinKeeney
      @CalvinKeeney ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally just use whatever feels natural to me. Some shots I keep my finger high on the grip, touching the paddle like you see. And sometimes I choke down to hit the ball harder. Usually choking up on the paddle gives you control like a ping pong paddle. And choking down on the paddle gives you a bit more power. You can practice both and dont worry about what grip is "right". If it's not injuring you and it feels good, then use it in my opinion :)

    How do you execute a third shot drop if the opponent hits their shot extremely hard, low, and deep? With emphasis on low?

    • @CalvinKeeney
      @CalvinKeeney ปีที่แล้ว

      That's kind of tough to answer in text, but I would say to point the top of the paddle at the ground (not to the side fence), be strong with the paddle and do a somewhat scooping or tossing motion like you would do to throw a bean bag

    I feel your drives would be more consistent if you used your body rotation more. This allows a more relaxed swing giving more control. Body unwinds first, relaxed arm follows. You see this principle in all sports, baseball. Martial arts, table tennis etc.

    • @CalvinKeeney
      @CalvinKeeney ปีที่แล้ว

      One thing to look for in Pickleball is that the ball comes back very quickly. Typically you want to be moving in right after the drive to get a short volley hit by your opponent. I encourage players to make sure they don't overhit/over rotate, putting their body out of position for the next shot. I see what you are saying Maurice and I will think about it more as it applies to my drives. Thanks for the insight!

    • @CalvinKeeney

    Calvin, you do a nice job explaining (without being too chatty) it and providing a slow motion breakdown of what you just discussed. Pickleball would be much more fun and would speed the game up if a point was rewarded to the team that won the point whether the team was serving or not. You could expand the scoring to 21 (or some other number) instead of 11. In a similar manner, this was done in volleyball where the rule was changed that a point was awarded to the team that won the point regardless of whether the team was serving or not. This rule change made the game much more fun to play volleyball because the game went faster. The same could be said for pickleball if the rule change went into effect. I did this while playing with my son and now we always play this way where a point is awarded for each serve to the person (or team) when we play together. Someone ought to request or propose this rule change.

    Thanks Calvin! I asked once the IPTPA Level Two Certified Instructor if I should do some topspin or underspin on the third shot drop. The answer was, you try it out which works the better for you. I'd like the idea of toss the ball with a paddle as we do see some teaching videos ask starters to start with tossing the ball with hand to get an idea about the drop shot from the baseline. I am going to try it out.

      Sounds good. I rarely/never do anything but paddle hitting. Often I will have students try without the ball so they can feel the swing, but I've never been a fan of tossing the ball so I don't teach that way. Many others do and more power to them if it works

      Thanks Harry! I learned through TH-cam videos and just playing 10+ hours a week. Then drilling the shots I knew I needed to learn. Took several years for me and lots of tennis background. That's not necessarily needed but it helps a lot

      @@CalvinKeeney Thanks Calvin. I have been doing pretty much the same, less than 10+ hours a week though. I am pretty new and still have problem of hitting the ball too hard, pop it up or hit it out. I don't see you have that problem...looks like I need more time, play and drill more

      @@ehlai1676 Once you know what shots to drill, drilling is amazing for improvement! You got it :)

    Check out the Slam Master Practice/Training Paddle. Much better than wall drills! And before you dismiss it as looking easy - it's harder than it looks - especially volleys. The training is similar to a boxer practicing with a speed bag. You gain so much more paddle control. More variables than wall drills. Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/M7IrubhkYbg/w-d-xo.html

    This is just as useless as every other video on the third shot drop. You all are not at the base line and your opponent is at the non volley zone. I want to see a video on how to do a real third shot drop shot. So, you would always be behind the base line, your opponent would return a serve, then show me something!!!!!! I have found no video demonstrating this!!! So...well, I guess your telling me how to hit a drop shot...but from where you taught us...what good is it? Teach me a third shot drop as I described and the internet will love you. No one else can do it.
