Can you do a video on how to clean and lubricate the wheels packs in those S&G safe locks ... I'm a apprentice locksmith ... thank you?
Employee had he safe drilled without the owner’s approval? And a locksmith went along with that?
Thanking you sir!
Can you change from an electric lock to a mechanical lock?
Yep
I have a ESL5 lock. I have had it for approximately 5 years. The battery went dead so I changed it and replaced it with a 9 volt Duracell battery. When I try to wake it up by hitting the "C" button no lights come on and no beeps. Any suggestions? I thought it might be in penalty mode, so I waited 15 minutes to see if I was are able to use the keypad, no go. Tried the same thing several times and always no go. Please If anyone can help me please respond. I am trying to avoid drilling the safe.
Had the same problem. The keypad is just wore out. Bought new lock (same one) for $200 from Amazon. Combo is saved on actuator so new keypad opened it right up. Once its opened i installed the new actuator. Might as well do that because you have it. It's an easy fix. You can do it.
Thank you for your help.
That has to be one of the UGLIEST openings I've ever seen, short of being burned open.
We agree, it was painful!
What happens if my code got deactivated. I keep getting locked out because it doesn’t recognize my code.
Hi thank you for the comment. If you are still having the issue you will either need to wait for the keypad to get out of penalty mode or you will need a safe technician to come out and reset the lock through American Security. If you don't have a safe tech in your area please let us know and we can find one for you.
Question how do you open door if that is broken because that part is on inside? Lol
Unfortunately if the lock is not functioning you'll need a professional safe technician to open your safe. If you don't have someone you trust, please let us know and we can help find someone in your area.
Purchased my ESL5 about 14 years ago. Been noticing over the last 2-3 years I had to replace the Duracell batteries more often in order to open the safe. I understand there could be a bolt binding issue which drains the battery to overcome the binding. However, why did I start having these issues recently? Is the bolt mechanism wearing out? The solution is now to replace the battery every 3 months versus 9-12. I’m not opening the safe more frequently now versus during the first 10 years. Thank you BTW. Would you have a recommendation on a safe tech in my area? 91775
Hello, sorry to just now get to this response! Your lock is more than likely beginning to fail. Our recommendation would be to replace the lock and keypad. They tend to go through batteries more quickly when they are beginning to go bad. The closest company to you would either Maglock Safe and Vault out of Whittier or Dean Safe out of North Hollywood, We are not personally familiar with either of them but they are a member of the Safe and Vault Technicians Association and must be recommended by another safe tech to join. I hope this is helpful! ~A
Thank you very much for your advice. I have scheduled a tech from Deans Safe. Just so happen that’s where I purchased my safe. He will replace the keypad and lock with an ESL10. The cost for parts and labor is almost $500. More than I expected for the part. Thank you again👍
Holy smokes! @@kawashif
It’s all good now! Sure was expensive.

I guessed that might be the last one in existence, but several comments proved my supposition wrong. Watching you file the bolt hole made me appreciate the Mosler bolt-cup adjustment tool. I'd forgotten about that feature.
Had to do that with too much regularity; usually because of a gauled hinge pin. A time or two because of a broken hinge pin. Soaked the pins with PB Blaster, raised the safe slightly with the door open 90°, put couple of appropriately sized wood blocks under the door, lower the safe and start wiggling the door back and forth. Some times a wood block on top of the safe above the hinges had to be used with a 2 or 4 pound maul to move things along. I found a maul (short handled sledge, often called a drilling hammer) to be more efficient at removing hinge pins. Let the weight of the head do most of the work while you concentrate how the head meets the punch! Just be careful that the pin doesn't "rocket" out of the hinge. Badly gauled or broken hinge pins were replaced with appropriately sized drill rod. And I usually installed zerk fittings on the door leafs for future lubrication. I hated it when some idiot burglar used a hacksaw to try and cut the hinge pins, destroying the flat bearing surfaces. A LOT of work drilling and tapping for set screws and ball bearings. Expensive, but cheaper than new hinges and their installation (and a lot quicker). And you might be surprised at how much acid is in soft drinks! Lots of phosphoric acid in some.
Here's a question, for the past week or so as I dial in my code the lock makes me enter it twice before it opens. Could it be low batteries considering I use did every other day or so for the past 2 years or so? Thanks for any help and thanks for all that info
Hello, it does sound like batteries might be your only issue, if you change them with new Duracell or Energizer batteries and it continues to act off like that, you might be in need of a new lock, but typically, batteries solve most issues.
@StarfleetLockSafeInc thanks for that. It fixed after I changed the batteries
Are the 2 9v batteries in the Esl10 in series or parallel? Based on the answer, why could someone not hardwire a 9 or 18 volt DC power supply instead of batteries? Tired of replacing mine every few month.
That's crazy stuff guys, very well done.
It’s interesting to me that I cannot find any lock picking videos on a digital lock safe. Are they safer than and dial lock?
Not sure what’s happening here. You say slam. Slam what?
Or the keypad simply crapped the bed for no reason as my ESL10 did recently. They are a ticking time bomb that goes off with no warning and locks you out.
Unfortunately, like all electronics, sometimes they give you warning signs and other times they do not. If you aren't looking for ease of use and speed when opening your safe, a mechanical dial safe lock is going to give you the reliability you are after. With that said, please be aware that mechanical locks should still be serviced every 5 years or so, to keep them working properly.
Where are you located
I apologize for the late response! We are located in Springfield, IL but we travel all over and see the work of both local and traveling Locksmiths alike!
Keyword does not work any more, do you have idea what cuold be wrong. Thanks in advance.
I have an ESL10 that does not beep past either the "C" or "C" with 1st digit. I have replaced the batteries with multiple known good batteries, including brand new, guaranteed until 2027, Duracell batteries. I have also disconnected the communication cable and then reconnected it after 15+ min before reconnecting it. Nothing seems to help. I 100% know the passcode; same since I bought the house 10yrs ago. Opened maybe about once per year. Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you.
Hello, there are definitely several potential issues. You may have a bad keypad, in that case hooking up another ESL10 keypad might get you in. You might have a bad cable connecting the keypad to the lock, you cannot replace that without the safe open. You might also have a bad lock and again cannot replace without it being open. The final problem could still be a battery issue. These locks need pretty solid amperage to open them and occasionally even new batteries don't give you enough. 2027 truly isn't that far out date wise but should still do the trick. If you can get your hands on fresh Duracell Procell 9V's that is what we use and work every time, unless batteries don't end up being the issue. Please let us know if you need anything else from us.
I am having a problem opening my ESL5. Every time I press a number it beeps and flashes. As a matter of fact any number I press it beeps and flashes. The battery is new and it’s a Duracell battery 9V. Thank you
This sounds like you are in penalty mode, if you let is sit 5-10 mins that should allow you to open it. I hope you are in by now!
Great video - thank youuu
Thank you!
That feature of entering as many numbers as you want before hitting final “6” is awesome!!
It is great! A sneaky way to keep prying eyes off your code!
Thanks for your video. It helped me manipulate one open today
How do I cancel the 10 minute timer on this?
There are instructions for the ESL10 on the American Security Website!
This is pretty basic, but my ESL wasn't working after I changed the batteries because I put the two Duracells in side by side with the plus side up on both, When I put one battery in with the plus side down - Voila - it worked! Who knew?
You aren't the only one! Glad you figured it out!
I'm a locksmith in e ky.i have one of them
Duracell batteries have ruined several of my flashlight I'd never buy them again now made in China.
We have an ESL10 lock. We’ve changed the batteries. The key pad will beep on the C and the first digit of the combination but the rest of the keypad is silent. We’ve disconnected and reconnected the cable and still only the C and first number of the combo beep. What else could be the issue?
It sounds like the keypad has gone bad. A new keypad should remedy the situation, but after opening the safe, I would recommend that you replace both the lock and keypad. We always suggest that you use a qualified safe technician to perform the swap. If you need help finding one in your area, please call our office and we will be happy to assist you.
I have an American Security safe ESL10. When I enter the correct combination the door doesn't open. I can turn the handle all the way to the left and all the way to the right. I can even turn the handle without entering the combination. Any suggestion?
I am sorry we haven't responded sooner. Without knowing more about your safe, I can only speculate and I would prefer not to do that. Tell me more about the make and model of your safe and I can probably discern your issue. If you would like, please call the shop and, if available, I will be happy to talk to you. If need be, leave a message and I can call you back.
@@StarfleetLockSafeInc Turns out it was the batteries even though I had put in brand new batteries a few months before. I was told batteries go bad faster in Florida because of the heat and humidity while sitting on the shelves. Thank you!
I appreciate the video! But too much talking, just get to the point!
How to reset? Light remains on, only “C” works. Thanks

@@StarfleetLockSafeInc What is another name for this feature that recognizes the first 5 digits and then waits for the 6th digit while you enter as many random digits as you want as long as it is not the last digit of the code?
I'm retired from 40 yrs as a locksmith and safe tech. You didn't mention bound boltwork. I had many instants where handle had no play or did seem to have play but items inside the safe where pushed against the back of the door or in the corner blocking the bolt ends, a few I could not release. Try to hold handle in locked direction while entering code. Also I had trouble with some of the yellow Pro Cell batteries not having enough power for the big ESL 10 solenoid, copper tops always worked. The ESL 10 is the most reliable lock around. Nice helpful video.
Thank you for your comment.
Thank you so much for your comment about laying it on it's back. We had to tilt the safe and put the code it tilted and it opened! Amazing help!
Glad that helped someone
Thank you...I pushed the handle to the close side and it opened right away
I have an ESL10 unit, replaced batteries with Duracell, cleaned the phone type connector, no noticeable damage to wiring, unit beeps correct buttons but on pressing the pound key I hear something clicking inside the safe but can not open. I see screws for removing the base of the unit but surely if I was able to get to the mechanism inside any one could do it. Help please.
Sounds like a failure where the lock is unlocking and then locking almost immediately. It needs to be replaced. To get it open you need to be able to quickly turn the handle before the lock re-locks. Not easy and sometimes impossible. Once it is open, do not lock it back up again until you get the lock and keypad replaced. Good luck. If you need help finding a quality tech in your area, please let us know. Call the shop.
Is there a number I can call

AmSec ESL10 will not open. No beeps or LED flashes upon pressing any keys. New batteries, wires OK. Power is to the keypad PC board header. Reseated the keypad ribbon cable and deadbolt RJ, still completely dead - no reaction to any keystrokes. I am assuming the keypad has died and needs to be replaced. 1 year warranty on the AmSec locks? Is it common for AmSec electronic locks to have a lifespan like this? Is this something a replacement lock will eventually do again? Is there a longer-lived, more dependable replacement available for retrofit?
Did you ever resolve it ? I’m having same problem
Hi David, I apolgoize I'm just now seeing this comment. I hope you have it resolved. We use the ESL10 locks on most any safe we have and believe in the product, that doesn't mean it is perfect. I would still recommend either the ESL10 or a SecuRam basic or L02 lock. Both of these are solid options if you want electronic.
My ESL20 is still locked out even after the 5 minutes.
This key works this key doesn't show you again this key workd this key doesn't show you again this key works this key doesn't show you again this key works this key doesn't. Maybe he got to a point but I gave up.
I've just acquired one of these sates with that type of keypad on it. I do not have the code. How do I reset it? I have the serial number. Do I just give you a call? And maybe for a little fee, you can help me out?
Will your keypad make noise or light up if not hooked up to the lock mechanism???
I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. The AMSEC safe locks do not operate without the lock and keypad being connected. There are other safe locks that will produce sound or operate a menu screen, but not all.
Nicely done by both these professionals! I have the very same safe and it took 3 smaller guys to install it!😮😅😂
