as an acoustic musician i am particularly interested in the range of plucked instruments and whether you can play them individually

Just bought one in Dec ‘24…… it’s a little trip down memory lane! I love it and will be racking it up as part of my live rig as well as for studio work. Expansion cards will be added once I’ve learned more of its power.

Fix the effect chain issue, get a JV-2080!

12:30 I use the Roland Cloud JV-1080 vst much more than the real hardware because i can use as many of them i like in a project and automate everything.

Producers make the mistake of wanting the patch sound to sound like a finished product. The magic of the JV-1080 is the compression needed to fit the sounds onto rom. The sounds are so clean you can tweak them to your heart's desire. I love legacy hardware.

Hi, what modular effect is that?

I have a valid license and cannot load new samples and instruments. It is Friday and I was planning to work on music, but MUSIO is dead. Interestingly, the samples I have already loaded (in the past) work fine. IT seems like the recent update screwed everything up. .I was asked today to reset my password (for no reason) and install an update (which most likely caused all the issues). Reported the problem and waiting, but It really sucks to use such an unreliable service

I do want to get the M1 LE plugin at some point, with not having an M1, do have a Krome Ex, don't suppose there is any way to add any M1 sounds into it?

Wish I could buy all those libraries, but 1-I'm still a starting composer, and 2- I live in Brazil, our budget reality is VERY different.

Yes, it does. It even can simulate a D50, except the PWM. Nobody needed PWM after the 9ties anyway. What is it? a bit of wanky shift in sounds? Can be done by filters anyway.

Use a lot of spitfire stuff on my projects and need to evoke different composers' styles. this was hugely helpful!

Thanks a lot Stephen for this review. I was about to buy one of these but I think I may have to hold off. I was looking for something with more usual instruments like piano / piano + strings / electric piano / warm lead tones / expansive pads, etc. I would say piano sound realism is a must for me. I was wondering which sound module do you recommend that has these good tones but they are sitting in the lowest zone of budget scale. Thanks a lot.

I have a jv1080…it was attached to a windows XP and always had a serious lag issues … I may drag it out and see if I can attach to a faster computer…

I love Preset 42 "Overture" . It's Amazing sound. You hear it a lot on Bruce Springsteen and Bruce Hornsby's older records.

The examples are only slow movements.

I ended up just grabbing the sysex dumps of TX81Z and loaded them into FM8.. voila, instant access to all the patches, especially the famous aforementioned bass patch. :) I love all the parameters in FM8, especially those built in effects.
