FPV PERSONAL RECORD | DJI O3 AIR UNIT
This is something a little different than my regular content and style of flying. Conditions were semi good enough to test the limits of my QAV-S2 7 inch JohnnyFPV long range setup and see how far I could push it. Turns out I have a hard time flying at a slower pace, which is not ideal for this style of flight. I was pulling a bit too much wattage out of my Li-ion pack for my comfort. Ended up landing at the lowest voltage I’ve pushed my DIY battery pack to so far.

If you were say flying around a scene or say 2km and closer. How much life you think you'd get out of this 9Ah setup?
@@miestermind it depends on how fast your flying, wind, if you’re gaining quite a bit of altitude (climbing up a mountain)…lots of factors. With this drone, this battery, flying at around 6000ft (where I live) I can get 25+ if I’m just cruising at low speeds with no wind. I hover test every battery back I make and I think I got around 27 minutes on the two packs I have right now. Discharging to 2.8v per cell
Super cool, I've been looking into getting into long range drones, this is juat the kind of setup I've been looking for.
@@gapho5198 go for it!
Great video! Why didn't you have 50Mb at the beginning of the flight?
@@yarickg2284 I have my goggles set to 20MHz mode. 26Mb max
@J-MADFPV ok. Is there any difference between 20Mhz and 40Mhz mode? Which is better for long range? I've never thought about it.
@ I think the theory is that since there is less data being transmitted, when/if you lose signal you would get the image back faster. I haven’t really tested that. I do feel like I get less glitches when I’m flying far
Cool!!!! I only reached 7km with my 5 inch ☹
Not bad for a 5 inch! What battery did you have on it?

incredible you pushed the limits of the O3, it's really satisfying!
The O3 can do much more than this, which is incredible.

@ there’s a video on youtube of someone flying the O3 past 20km!

Can the DJI 03 unit support single LHCP SMA antenna?
@@noafkgaming2291 not sure, but I’m going to guess no. Usually video transmitters need to have the antennas connected to avoid damage.
@ noted, thank u for responding buddy 👌🏻

wow impressive bro🤙🏽🤙🏽🔥🔥 what is the type of antenna you use in middle of vtx antenna at back?🤔 in Indonesia, i never see like that, but in others people i saw simillar like yours

What’s the flight time? Nice video btw
I can’t remember what I was getting with the pack I was flying in this video. I think I only flew that pack once or twice. I have since switched to flying Li-ion packs I make myself using molicel p45b cels. With my current setup I get anywhere between 15-25 minutes depending on how I fly it and where. If you go to any of my most recent videos I have the parts of my current setup in the description
Nice man. pretty much same setup I have haha. I need make one of those batteries tho.
Go for it! I’m now looking at the Molicel p50b for my next pack. A bit more capacity and more continuous amp draw for a small weight penalty. I just can’t seem to find them in stock anywhere.
@ also your antennas on your o3 I see you have the RHCP are those better then the LHCP? That’s only difference in mine and yours haha
@ I don’t think. Or at least not than I know of. As long as the polarization of the antennas on the quad matches the antennas on the goggles all is well
@ ok yea I have the truerc on my goggles also and they are LHCP. Man I wish I had places like this to fly lol. I need to travel
@@J-MADFPVwhat was the total cost of the diy pack? Total weight of quad? Nice clip...thx for sharing

Thats crazy awesome flight! ❤❤❤❤ I am curious though: Video Link: DJI 03 Air Unit, 2x iFlight Albatros RHCP Antennas I thought all the dji stuff is LHCP?? 😅 (I know my goggles v2 are.)
@ DJI goggles 2 and the O3 air unit come with linearly polarized antennas. I swapped them all to RHCP
Hey, I broke already those 2 stupid pieces of plastic holding the gopro and I was wondering something like this...would you like to share the stl files?
same
Oh man, I unfortunately lost the model. My hard drive decided to die. I have one in my work computer, but I can’t get any files out of that computer because security protocols of where I work. If/when I remodel this I’ll make sure to post it to thingiverse. Cheers
Hey nice drone, why are you flying a 6S2P? Did you Calculate a 5S1P or 6S Molicel INR21700-P50B Pack it should be around the same flight time but lighter. Did you monitor cell temp? This config is the on the limit what the cells can handle.
@@Creepe95 thanks! And I’m not necessarily going after flight time. My focus for a 2p configuration was to gain more amp draw capacity to keep the battery cooler and still be able to push my flight speed (I like maintaining a speed of over 100km/h when possible). The p45b 21700 cells are rated to 45 amp draw continuous. 90 amps with the 2p config. At the time this was the best cell I could find that did 45 amps. And the 9000mha just gives me more than enough time for the type of flying I like to do. And so far this setup has been very reliable and fun to fly for me. Cells never get hot during flight. These p45bs are like black magic lol, incredible performance. Now I’m very interested in looking into those p50b cells though!
@@Creepe95 the P50Bs look awesome on paper. 60amp continuous sounds amazing.
@@J-MADFPV ok nvm. i looked up the wrong datasheet (P28A lol) so now it makes a lot more sense. The P50B are looking insane ist a relatively new cell. Can you give me some numbers on how much amps this config is pulling and also the weight of the build with battery? That would be awesome!
@ AUW is 1580g.That’s with a gopro 11 mini. The battery by itself is 887g. For amps you can watch the osd on my videos and see exactly what I’m pulling for my style of flying, but ball park, this drone pulls from high teens, low 20s when just cruising at 40 to maybe 60 kmh with no wind, and all the way up to 70s when pushing the speed above 120kmh or so with a headwind. Again that’s just kind of going by memory to what I’ve seen in the OSD when I happen to pay attention. Also, I live at high altitude. Most of my flights happen between 8000 and 14000 feet of altitude
@@Creepe95 just went back to checked the osd on some of my videos and it looks like on average I’m pulling about 30amps while flying about 100km/h in a straight line in light winds.
Bro I joust finishing watching all your flights and they are so good 🔥 what size of cell are u using never seen before that someone fly soo hard on lion.
@@Flying_Wild_Boar thanks dude! I build my packs using molicel p45b cells. These are 21700 size cells. Running them in a 6s2p configuration. So technically 9000 mah packs with 90 amp continuous discharge. I only have two packs and they’ve been used on pretty much every flight/video on my channel plus many more flights that I don’t record/upload and I’ve never had an issue. The packs barely get warm even though I like to fly hard and fast.
My only concern is that these are heavy ass batteries. You should try a 4000mah lipo and see how it feels because i really wonder if there is a ginormous difference
@ i have tried 4000 mah lipos and it reduced the flight time significantly. My Liion pack weighs about 800g for 9000mah capacity. A 6S 4000 mah lipo is about 600g definitely lighter but way less capacity and I have to land at 3.5v per cell instead of the ~2.8v per cell of the liion. My drone motors and tune handle the weight of the liion pack with no issues. No overheating. So for my style of flying as of now my custom packs are my best option
Who else out there likes to see the goggles view/OSD and be able to hear the drone sound on LR FPV flights?✋
Its interesting to see the telemetry, particularly when there's something about the telemetry that stands out, like distance or speed, or the oh shit moment of imminent battery death when you're still a little too far out. I like the way you edit the flights, mellow in transitions but epic or intense when the speed or view justify it.
@ thanks man! I agree, I think telemetry makes it so much more interesting if you’re into FPV. Otherwise it’s just another drone footage video of mountains haha.
That's the reason why I never fly LR with DIGITAL... to risky.
Yeah, you have to be very aware of your LOS limits. I knew I was flying really close to my LOS limit and was ready to react to it. For the fast proximity LR flying I like to do analog is more risky. Flying low to the ground in the mountains you need to be able to clearly see dead tree branches , sticks, etc…as of now digital is the only way I can get that level of definition. I’ve crashed analog drones because I couldn’t see a dead tree or branch sticking out of the ground. And in most of the places I fly recovering the drone is not always an option. Different applications for different systems! Just happy we have great options out there. Thanks for watching
Just built my johnnyfpv 5" and it's an absolute beast. Rear assembly needs a redesign haul, though. They should have at least 2 screws to mount the rear assembly instead of 1 because it makes it pivot too much in incident of crash.
Woah, this is a very similar build to what I am trying to make. What are you thoughts on the drone?

Nice flying! I'm thinking of trying some mountain surfing in my area. Do you find the Gopro video is worth the extra weight when compared to the on-board recording from the DJI 03? Perhaps the question should be, do you find you have enough flight time with the Gopro?
@@dieterweik6858 thanks! To me the Gopro is well worth it for the quality/type of footage I’m after with 5.3k resolution at 30fps. With the batteries I use and the distance I usually cover in my flight paths the weight of the gopro doesn’t really play a factor on my flight times. I can get 20 to 25 minutes out of a battery flying at around 100km/h in light winds. Maybe more like 15 or so minutes flying in high winds or trying to maintain even faster speeds. For most of my flights I usually have a very specific target and flight path that I know it would take less time to complete than my battery can do. I normally don’t go on exploration flights where I’m not certain where my return time/point is. Also I’m not a fan of the 4k video quality of the O3 since I can’t set it to 30fps (my preference) and I also get some prop reflection sometimes. Sorry for the long answer haha. Hope that made sense.
